THE RAILWAY DESIGN GUIDE: DOWNLOADS

The downloads are broken up into four sections: Music, Guides, Savegames and Scenarios. Enjoy.

You will need a program that can handle long filenames to successfully extract these downloads - I recommend using WinZip.

Comments on the scenarios would be appreciated. Play them and let me know what you think.

Savegames

TTMultiple Slip Switches108 KbNo

This savegame is an illustration of the "multiple slip switches" technique discussed in "Intersections". Author: Chris Doherty

TTDLXRailway Guide In Use142 KbNo

This savegame highlights all of the concepts shown in this guide (and a few extra things that don't get mentioned!) - however, much of it is taken to an extreme level. I think I may have gone a little overboard with some of the layout, but I'm more inclined to construct a nice looking, elaborate layout than one that is fully optimised for profitability. TTDLXRailway Guide In Use #2129 KbNo

This savegame also highlights all of the concepts shown in this guide - this time the layout is a little more subdued. The main feature is a station by a steel mill and factory which has a very high throughput of trains. Notice the two-lane dual tracks that run all the way from the farms on the eastern side of the map to the main station, allowing for a very high volume of traffic (the two modified cloverleafs also keep trains moving in the right direction). TTDLXRailway Guide In Use #3128 KbNo

Another savegame that shows how to use rail building strategy. This time we have a 4 platform station at a power plant handling high amounts of traffic. I've saved the game at a point where there are quite a number of trains approaching, just watch how easily this setup handles such volume. Also of note is the frequency with which trains are dropping off a load of coal, there's hardly a moment when this station doesn't have at least one (although it's usually two) trains pulling in - this is attributable to the two-lane dual tracks. Just sit there and watch it for five or ten minutes and you'll see what I mean. Author: Chris Doherty

Scenarios

TTDLXAustralia v2.549 KbYes

This secario is a map of Australia, which is reasonably scaled - as best as the editor will allow anyway. The game starts in 1950. Features include all major cities, landmarks and primary industries. This one was actually made more for fun (and looking at) than actually being played. Author: Chris Doherty & Mark Black

TTDLXBig River '75121 KbYes

The second scenario contains a pair of large cities (each containing multiple subrubs) built on a "big river", with a mountain in between them. The game starts in 1975. The mountains on this map cannot be bulldozed by the AI as I have put a series of transmitters (which cannot be removed, they appear as red dots on the screenshot) all over them, as well as tunnels underneath the main one. This should make for a more interesting game as you will have to deal with the terrain as it is. Author: Chris Doherty
