The video for the third single from Down On The
Upside was directed by Gerald V. "Jerry" Casale, who happens
to be the bassist for Devo, the band who made their triumphant (?)
return at Lollapalooza this summer. There was a sneak preview of the
video on MTV's 120 Minutes on Sunday, 27 October, though the video
aired a full day earlier on Canada's MuchMusic program. Soundgarden
covered Devo's 1980 song "Girl U Want"; it appears as a b-side on
several singles as well as on the SOMMS disc that was released
in 1992. Kim Thayil wrote the liner notes for the CD reissue of Devo's
Oh No! It's DEVO album.
