THE SHOWBOX GIG: JUNE 20, 1996 AT THE SHOWBOX, SEATTLE
On June 14, 1996, it was announced that Soundgarden would be playing a special club gig, their first in a long time, at Seattle's Showbox, on June 20. In support of the event, A&M Records sponsored an online contest, displayed on the official Soundgarden website, the prize being a pair of tickets to the show and airfare from anywhere in the United States. iMusic, who designed and maintain the official site, sent out a press release detailing the contest. At the same time, the fan club sent out email to the subscribers of the club's mailing list with more information about the concert itself, which was to benefit several charities.
The opening act for the show was Devilhead, who are signed to Loosegroove Records, and some of whose members play with Matt Cameron and Ben Shepherd in Hater. Luckily, members of the Soundgarden mailing list were there to report on the show and send cool stuff.
