Subject: CORNELL IN SF!!(Part One: The Concert)

Man oh man, what a night.

I was 2 when John Lennon was killed. I was 6 when The Police went on
permanent hiatus. I was 17 when our beloved SG broke up (at least I got to
see them once.) But all of that sadness, all of that time in between DOTU
and Euphoria Morning, all of my doubt about Chris as a performer, just
dissappeared.

The voice is real.

You've seen the SNL "Pretty Noose" clip (worse, you've heard it) that Chris
Cornell is missing in action. The man who showed up in SF tonight was quite
literally on a Mission. I won't bore you with the setlist, it's the exact
same as every other show.

Observations:

Leave Alain and Natasha alone. Simply put, if music was still meant to be
played the way Soundgarden did, they would still be together. The kids from
Eleven are doing exactly what they were supposed to do. Just because Alain
can't do the solo in Like Suicide the same way as Kim doesn't mean he is
supposed to mimic him. Even Alain is no Kim Thayil, what's your point? Kim
is no Nigel Tufnel yet he managed to pull off Big Bottom.

I remember the glib headline in Newsweek re: the breakup, "Maybe Somebody Got
Happy." I'm guessing that's true, I'm guessing that someone was Chris. What
a joy to watch a man who is loving every bit of a performance. I think that
spirit is really what pushed his voice to the limits that have been heard on
this tour.

I really can't put much else into words right now, mostly because my neurons
are completely frying on frappuccino and PowerBar, the only reasons I
survived the long drive home.

Let me leave you with this bit of personal reflection, especially you
naysayers. My parents were divorced when I was barely one year old. As much
as I wished that they had stayed together, I now realize that it's better
they didn't. And yes, I struggled with the step-parents. But now there are
loving relationships all over my life. So when he time for something has
come, it's okay to struggle at first, but things will wok out. (Pardon my
abstract tangents at the end, but I'm sure you understand what I'm getting
at. Plus, remember the caffeine/carbo high I'm on right now.)

Be Well,
Matt

Anyways!!!

After the show, I was able to hook up with two lovely lady SOMMSters. It was
my pleasure meeting both Sgardengrl and moonsta693! I was able to fenagle
(sp?) Greg Upchurch's set list (even though I had written down the set during
the show.) That's when I decided to wait outside the exit to get the thinged
signed by as many key players as possible. I'll spare the boring details of
barricades, and the part where it dawned on Moonstar and I that we were in
fact fellow SOMMSters. about an hour after the show, we saw our first target,
Ric Markman. Really nice guy, (Aussie too) he signed the setlist that I had
gotten (To Mat, he left out a "t", but hey, bass player right?) he also
answered some bass questions for a lady in line. Once again nice cool guy.

Then Jeff Ament comes out! He politely declined to sign autographs (saying he
was "on hiatus" from doing that or something, oh well). I figured signing
autographs for SG fans would be the least he could do after stealing our
drummer!!!! (calm.....)

After Jeff came another long wait. But after said wait, who should walk out
but shredmaster Kirk Hammett himself! He was very nice about quickly
scrawling his John Hancock on available posters, setlists, breasts etc. (not
really breasts, but I had him sign my setlist for some reason.)

There were very few of us waiting, at least fewer than you'd think. That's
when Alain and Natasha came out. And I must say, these are two of the most
gracious people ou would ever want to meet. Alain was very glad to sign his
name on my setlist. Natasha even had me puff out my chest so she could use my
rock hard pecs as a surface to autograph my setlist (note: author's
pectorials are considered "rock hard" due to the fact that there is no tissue
between skin and bone.)

Then we saw Greg. Here's how it went (M= Me, G=Greg)
M= Hey Greg, awesome job. I took this setlist from your kit, I hope by
signing it, that it will be a show of your forgivness.

G=Alright, I'll sign it on one condition, you hold my beer. Have a sip if
you want.

I'm underage and had a three hour drive ahead of me so I politely declined
the chugging part, but I got the signature anyway.

I started to realize a pattern in these musicians that Chris has chosen to
surround himself with, they are the nicest people you will ever want to meet.
So true was this, that Alain had to keep calling for Natasha to get on the
bus because it was leaving. So she did, but not before the last moment of
virtue from the keyboardist.

Three of us: Natasha, we were wondering if perhaps you could please have
Chris sign our (poster, setlist)? (You see Chris had already somehow snuck
on the bus)

Natasha: Three? (looks around) Alright, wait here.

Moonstar, the third party, and I became litle children on Christmas. Moments
later Santa (Chris' road manager) emerged from the bus with our sacred
relics, now signed by the man himself. Plus all of his onderful warm
musicians. Plus Kirk Hammett.....

Oh what a night/morning. Screw class tomorrow, this boy's sleepin' in.

Be Well,
Matt

Thanks for posting this. When I went to Ticketbastard's website at 10:15
Saturday, the "best available" was in the loge section. Seemed kind of
strange-I know Chris is popular, but not that popular. I'm not going. I
just went to the show at Town Hall. There, however I had a second row
center seat. For that I'll gladly pay $30. But to sit all the way in the

Subject: Waking on this Euphoria Morning

This is not a review, not really anyway.

First a little talk of record stores. NONE (that I know of, at least) were
open last night at midnight. I planned on grabbing my copies of Euphoria
Morning and The Fragile and then just driving out into the west desert
listening.
Today I went to the closest record store to me (media play, argh) and they
didn't have either yet. Fortunately I recieved my promo copy of EM today
(which I had to retrieve from the post office, or I would have had it
yesterday).

So I've just finnished listening to EM in it's entirety -- sitting back in
my chair with my eyes closed and the music loud. It was really strange -- I
lost all sense of space. At one time my room felt bigger, as if the stereo
were now several feet away from me. Another time, I felt like the room had
shrunk and that I was towering over everything. Very interesting.

Moonchild was the only song that I hadn't heard, but I also had not heard
the ending to Steel Rain yet. And of course I'm expecting to be blown away
because I love the rest of the song. So I guess I was let down. I don't
like the ending at all. It seems like an inappropriate mood change to the
song. Maybe after a while I'll get used to it, who knows -- first
impressions aren't always lasting impressions.

Well, I just bought the CD (a wonderful punctuation mark to this 24 hour

I bought it from Tower so I got the CD-ROM thingy. All it is, is those same
"CCTV" interview segments from the Official Site. Except of course we don't
have to watch them in crappy RealVideo. Kinda cool, I guess. Hey it's free
right?

In case anyone missed my recent post, tonight the BBC Radio One Rockshow
with Mary Anne Hobbs here in the UK is broadcasting Chris playing an
acoustic session. Radio One now broadcasts over the internet @
www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/
The show is from midnight till 2am UK time so that's 7pm till 9pm for East
Coasters. The rest of you can figure out your zones from there I'm sure.

Other Chris news - a friend emailed the Lisner in Chicago to be told that
Chris' show there on Nov 12th has been cancelled and probably won't be
rescheduled! Dunno what that's all about. Maybe he is switching venues.

PLUS

You can sing in French all you want Chris, but HMV here in London have not
only lumped Euphoria Morning in with Soundgarden CDs, they have moved
Soundgarden from Rock and Pop to the Metal ghetto!

expressfull(is that a word, if not yall know what I mean) It does
atimatically take you away from your surroundings. I was listening at work
and I couldn't do my job because it forces you to close your eyes and relax
and attempt to take it all in. AMAZING! With a recording being able to
express so much what is it going to be like in concert. I cryed it was so
moving. You might think I'm a wierd one but its true. It' a tear from the

Subject: Chris Cornell in San Franciso

Hey everyone!
I went to the Cornell show in SF last night and..... I still need to
catch my breath. The Fillmore Theater is set up a little differently than
some theaters. There's no back entrance or side alley or anything, so his bus
was parked up front. We got in line 3 hours before doors were scheduled to
open. It may sound a little anxious, but I saw CHRIS WALKING FROM THE BUS TO
THE THEATRE!!! There were about 12 of us in line and he didn't even look up
or wave! That really disappointed me- but I got over it.
The show was very similar to all the other ones I've heard about. There
was about a half a hour delay- which made some people, myself included, a
little mad. The anxiety was just too much. By the time he came onstage, the
audience was roaring. I won't tell you about the show cause it was almost
exactly like all the other reviews. Same setlist and even some of the same
comments (i.e. the first "Chris Cornell show" being back in 91 or 92 with
Matt Cameron). He dedicated "When I'm Down" to Natasha and during one song- I
forget which one- he was, like, singing to Natasha. They were staring at each
other for half the song! I thought that was really weird. Nevertheless, he
forgot to introduce her when he was introducing the rest of the band.
He looked incredible! I think I may have left a puddle of drool. He was a
little on the skinny side, but he still looked hot. He was wearing a
sleeveless green shirt and those pants that he's always wearing now a days.
The ones with the weird design sort of thing on the knees. And the "fly" of
the pants were like the holes for shoelaces. In fact the string that was
holding his pants together looked like shiny, silver shoelaces! I noticed
Alain was wearing the same pants, but in regular denim.
Chris' voice, of course, was spectaclar. I was completely awestruck. My
only complaint was that, for a show that was supposed to be more about the
vocals rather than intruments, they had the guitars turned up awfully loud. I
couldn't distinguish one word for another during most songs. It still sounded
amazing though. The crowd went wild during "Like Suicide". I personally
thought it sounded good- although Alain messed up on a few of the notes.
I left the show a very happy Chris Cornell fan. The man truly knows how
to deliver a great show. I can't wait to see him in November in Sacramento.
Plus, I took about 9 pics (the guard asked me to stop taking pics) and I
can't wait to get them developed.

Louder Than Love,
Zenia

Hmmm. I really hate to continue this, and I don't meant to accuse the above
person specifically. My "grow the fuck up" line was a bit uncalled for, I
apologize. But still, all of the problems that SOMMS has faced recently can
be traced back to fundamental lack of respect. The fact is, I was insulted.
I thought SOMMS was better than that. I know it is. I know in the age of
Howard Stern and South Park it seems archaic to have respect for the feelings
of others. But think about it, this list was founded on a respect. Respect
for those guys who named their band after some pipe sculpture.

Please don't misunderstand. I'm not asking everyone to be all politically
correct. I see no need for all of the hyphenated euphemisms we've had shoved
down our throats.

But I am insulted when I hear terms in contexts specifically designed to
demean somebody as a person. I call Puff Daddy a talentless hack, but I
would never call him the "n" word. I don't like John Waters' movies, but I
don't call him a demented faggot.

Bringing us back to the original offendind word "beast." Not the colloquial
Beast like in the X-Men, or the image of sexual fervor in hearing "you
beast!" But "beast." A modified and augmented "ugly." Yes I am insulted, as
anyone who believes that their is still some integrity left in SOMMS should
be. As anyone with a respect for fellow people should be.

There is a difference between "speaking your mind" and having something to
say.

Be Well (everyone),
Matt

P.S. I'll try and stop sending so much stuff to you guys. You're welcome.
