Someone posted from Japan the other day that the Japanese version of EM has
an extra track - Chris singing Can't Change Me in French. It appears the UK
version has too! There's a copy on sale on ebay.

I find the whole idea of Chris singing in French really weird. I wonder if
he pulls it off? B/c French spoken/sung badly (by me for instance :-)
sounds awful.

PS If it's about Susan - who studied Chinese at university - he should maybe
have gone for Chinese :-)
(now, Deb, you're just been silly)

Hey,
I'm Australian, and for all the aussie fans, there is a single out here =
(and everywhere). I just got it, it's not bad. I've heard Can't Change =
Me alot more on the radio than I would thought - the morning guy played =
it for like the past 2 weeks running at some point in his show. He =
seemed to like it. =3D)

I stumbled across what i think is a completely different recording of
the Reading Festival (8/27/95) performance than what's out there.
_Much better_ quality. well, i encoded the one and only Christi
performance from it. to get it: ftp to 140.247.174.249 login:

Okay i'm an idiot.. walk into HMV look under C in the singles section, find
Can't Change Me single $9.95. Easy as that..

I didn't know about the Poncier cd either, so thank you to those who asked..
I would kill to hear Chris sing CCM in French.. What's it called? Ne
Change-Moi Pas? eeheheheh Like Big Sugar's Le Scene.. (i'm still on the
lookout.)

>Funny how the album track of Fluttergirl appears as a B-Side. It sounds
>like
>a single in it's own right to me.

It's not the album version. It's the one without the factory sounds (chugga
chugga chhhh). I prefer the album version, personally. It is more final. The
chorus ends on a final note. Musically, i'm sure this could be explained.
this poncier version seems to go on and on really.. it gives it a totally
different feel.

When I'm Down.. i'm a bit sceptical of songs whose lyrics are openly
contradictory. I mean i haven't analysed it fully, but these lyrics make me
laugh.. "I'll only love you when i'm down, i'll only miss you when i'm
down.. one thing you should keep in mind, i'm down all the time" like uh
great. you're saying this why?
But the sound/feel of it is almost like You call me a dog or Say hello to
heaven.. Again, the lyrics could be better.

The reason why some of you might be having problems with the ftp address is
probably how your mail does the whole automatic hyperlink thing. Hotmail
chopped it into two different links which obviously wouldn't work.. so
double check that. Use CuteFTP or something.. a browser sucks for that kind
of thing.

Hey do you think the australian version of Euphoria Morning is going to have
a yobbo version of CCM on the end? "My sheila's not gunna make me do nothin"
or something like that.. a romantic and tension filled ballad of one woman's
attempts to part an aussie bloke and his beer...

heheh later guys

Hey SOMMster's,
Dave and the like have had their input, so I'm gonna give another review =
on Euphoria Morning. I've indicated it in the topic, so if you're sick =
of the reviews, you can just delete the E-mail. =3D)

Can't Change Me
Well, we've all heard it. Not a bad song, but then not really a =
fantastic song, and definately out of whack in the album. I like it, =
it's alot better than whats out there, it has a nice blend, the drums =
are Matt-like (Which in my books is a HUGE bonus!) and as in every song =
on this album.. the bass plays a pretty vital role (As it usually does). =
Perhaps an overuse of effects, but I get a feeling Chris might be using =
a Vox amp, and I love Vox.
As a whole, I'd give it 7 out of 10.

Flutter Girl
Initially I liked it, but my opinion of it has gone down a bit since. I =
still like it, it's alot more decisive than the original, but then it =
does have a very different feel to the original. It kinda makes me feel =
like Chris is standing around with a bunch of mates talking down to this =
girl and getting her real upset, but then in the chorus he takes her =
aside and says "Look, I'm sorry, but this is the way I am".. (Even =
though he probably wouldn't stand around with friends ridiculing =
someone). it flows alot better than the original and the quirky funny =
background factory sounds are really funky.=20
8 out of 10

Preaching the End of the World
One thing Soundgarden could always do is really write a good, sad, =
deppressing song. And I love those kind of songs, that kinda make you =
wanna cry out of unhappiness, but also at extreme pleasure of listening =
to the song at the same time. No resemblance to BUTOW in my opinion, =
because it's alot more upbeat and optimistic, in this Chris seems to be =
offering an answer, or looking on the bright side of a situation, =
whereas BUTOW was just complete "hey this is fucked". I like this song, =
Chris has done well.
8 out of 10.

Follow My Way
Not one to believe in absolute perfection, but this song is excellent. =
This was the third song I heard and subsequent songs have been judged =
compared to this for me, in my opinion the best song on the album (my =
opinion remember). Chris' singing is reminiscent of his days with =
Soundgarden, the bass is doing weird stuff that I can't follow but I =
still love, and the guitar, well, at first I didn't realise that it's =
actually lightly distorted. It's a thought provoking song, with alot of =
soul and the musical aspect is some of the best writing I've seen Chris =
do.
10 out of 10.

When I'm Down
Well, if you like All Night Thing and Call Me a Dog, you'll probably =
like this one. The verse has the upbeat romantiscism of All Night Thing =
and the more sombre, humble chorus is comparable to Call me a Dog. It's =
like a jazz song, really. It's something I can see myself listening to =
when I'm 60 or something.. it's a relaxed song, not my favourite on the =
album, but I do like Chris' singing on it, and the writing and variety =
of instruments shows Chris has a pretty good understanding of his key.=20
7 out of 10.

Mission
Sounds like a Soundgarden song to be honest, and it's not too bad. It's =
dark, and brooding but its not slow, and doesn't plod along, it gets to =
the point, the background singing in the chorus kinda sounds like Alice =
in Chains. The only thing that seperates it from SG is I can't find the =
trademark bend that SG always used to do. =3D) All in all, maybe the =
heaviest song on the album.
8 out of 10.

Wave GoodBye
Excellent song. This is something that if Chris didn't write, Jeff would =
have. =3D) It's very Buckley-ish but still retains Chris' originality. =
Chris' vocals are very clear in this, more so than any other song. Chris =
has honoured the memory of Jeff well. But I don't like his attempt at =
singing like Jeff though, I personally don't think that's not his style. =
Chris tends to wail or cry out when he's singing, and Jeff tends to have =
a more "honey" like voice, it's very distinct. So is Chris'.
9 out of 10.

MoonChild
This is the only one I haven't heard. Can't wait. =3D)

Sweet Euphoria
This is a beautiful song, Chris' singing at it's most diverse on the =
album. If his description of his work being "stripped vocals" then it's =
none moreso than in this song, beautifully kept in key with the guitar. =
This song in my opinion shows us that Chris has shown the world a new =
thing about solo work, that it's not restricted to some guy like George =
Michaels singing with a whole backup group and synthesized music with =
words about some girl he wants to get into. Chris has shown is true =
musicianship in a solo way with this song.
10 out of 10.

Disappearing One
Didn't like it as much as I thought I would, but it's definately a good =
song. During the verse the humm of the bass along with Matt's drumming =
creates an atmosphere comparable to that of nothingman by Pearl Jam, the =
rapid and surpsisingly sudden change of chords and tempo could have =
something to do with Matt's percussive influences, another good example =
of Chris singing with his vocals "stripped".
8 out of 10.

Pillow of Your Bones
Well, when I first heard this I thought "Chris has got Travis Meeks on =
guitar for this!". It sounds alot like something from Days of the New, =
and if Soundgarden ever went unplugged I could see them playing this, =
it's like what grunge is when transferred to acoustic, the chord =
changing during the chorus is heavy and powerful, Chris' singing gets =
more powerful as the music gets more picky. It's a good contrast and =
blends beautifully.
9 out of 10.

Steel Rain
This is a song I can see myself listening to alot when I get the =
album... It kinda reminds me of the Superunknown - BMF days, in Seattle, =
because of the rain thing, and because the tone and atmosphere sounds =
like the kind of harmony played with the countless shows about Kurt's =
death. Overall, I've run out of words to describe it, so I'll just =
settle with awesome.
9 out of 10.

I know I haven't been as harsh as Dave and the others, but I honestly =
believe the album is awesome, and that this is Chris' songwriting at a =
stage that I think we'll all remember. I think most of you will like it, =
and I believe the large portion of SG fans will dig it too. There's alot =
of contrast, and I honestly believe these is still some SG influence in =
this whole album, and that instead of escaping the grunge stereotype, =
Chris takes his music onto a whole new level that we've never seen =
before, this is solo work unlike whats out there, and I personally =
believe this could still fit into the Rock/grunge category, but as a =
branch of it. Overall Chris, an excellent piece of work. Keep it up and =
you'll send me broke getting all your stuff!! =3DP

Feel free to critiscize, try not to flame.
-Mansel
