hey all

Just wanted to comment on how we all are talking about Chris's new look.
Personally I dont like it at all. The music is great, dont get me wrong.

My favorite look on Chris was from the cover of Details a while ago....I need
to get a picture of that because i want to emulate that look (send me a jpg
if you can....all of em from the article would be awesome!).

The new look i'm not so down with....just wondering what all of you thought
about it.

I agree to an extent, I mean ONE Dave Navarro is plenty.

I like this look better than that 'short hair sticking up all over his head
look' he was sporting towards the end of SG. He kind of has a look now that
says "I am an artist", y'know. Of course, I've never quite gotten over him
shaving off his long curly locks...

i can't say that i like the look better, but it certainly suits the music that
he's making. somehow i can't picture chris singing these beautiful delicate
songs with spiky hair..that look was more rock...more aggressive
rockstarish....now he's got the introspective goth look going on....

still enticingly yummy, just not as indie and rebelish...unfortunately...plus it
seems like there's a lot more effort going into his image than before, which is
obviously necessary for the solo road...doesn't mean i have to like it...and he
seems to have gotten over his desire for complete personal privacy...i mean,
christ, telling the public you're trying for a baby....none of that is as
appealing as the chris as he was in the days of sg...but alas life goes on....

oh, and i totally miss the long hair too :)

Okay, I don't write to the group that often. I'm one of those hermits who
only reads and rarely speaks. Now I'm gonna speak. I've become quite
disillusioned with Chris over the past month. I have yet to hear anything
from his new album, except for CCM. I don't like it. It reminds of Jeff
Buckley. I like Jeff Buckley, but Chris ain't Jeff. Chris is fucking
Chris. I want to hear Chris. I know his solo career is meant to go in a
different direction from Soundgarden. Y'know, a stripped down,
vocals-emphasized, acoustic-type sound. That's fine. However, when did
he stop being Chris Cornell? He reminds a lot of Billy Corgan nowadays.
The 'I'm-a-tortured-artist/poet-who-also-happens-to-be-a-pretty-boy' look.
I'm assuming most of you read the Ray Gun interview. Not only were they
fawning all over him, commenting on his 'delicate' features and so on, but
Chris came off sounding like a flake. Maybe it's due to my new perception
of him, and that influenced how his words came out. Who knows? I was
excited beyond words when I heard he was going to do a mini-tour. That
was about a month ago. Last week, when I couldn't get tickets, I really
didn't care. I'll still buy EM the day it comes out, and I can't make a
conclusion until I hear the album, but until then, consider me one
disappointed mega-fan.

I remember him saying once that they didn't want to change their clothing
because he didn't want their fans to spend a lot of money on it (because we
would copy it somehow). And I saw him a couple of months just before the
split up (it was on MTV or something) and he wore a blazer (jacket) and
underneath a very flashy shirt (blouse). It was quite different from the
usual black t-shirts. So there was definitely a difference in Cornells
clothing as a bandmember and private, not that it was a surprise.

Anyway, the long hair was fine with me but I like the short hair better. In
the end it doesn't really matter to me.

Mandy.

I have never found Chris Cornell looking bad, long hair, short hair, shaven

check out Raygun to see if it this stills is true.

Subject: Euphoria = Low Sales

Don't expect Chris' album to be a big seller, unfortunately. Here's what I
picked up at SonicNet.

"Rage will be huge, but aside from Streisand and Jay-Z, there's nothing
bigger out there for us than NIN," Krumholtz said. As an example of the
demand he expects for The Fragile, Krumholtz said he plans to make an
unusually large initial order of 1,000 copies, versus the 200 or so
Cornell's album will garner.

So, what does this show us, boys and girls? Well, NIN are destined to make a
bundle of cash this September 21, as retailers are stocking more of The
Fragile than Euphoria Morning by a count of 5:1. Add in Tori Amos, Sloan,
Our Lady Peace, some rap groups, and it seems that Chris Cornell's album is
not destined to be in the top 10 album sales for that week. I expect, and
its unfortunate that I'm saying this, that Chris will have a top 20 album,
and slip down to the 80's..

Unless Jimmy has a trick up his sleeve, then we all will have a critically
acclaimed, low-selling CD in our hands. Ah, and I remember I picked up DOTU
when it was #2 on the charts. *sigh*.

Jimmy will get respect off me if he markets this album enough so people can
appreciate what we're all wasting our time on SOMMS for :)

Dave

P.S. Oh, and the reviews I've seen for EM, on Deb's site..SHIT...can they
pound it anymore? Its like "been there, done that.".

hey, gues who just scored a copy of BMF / SOMMS? me! yeah! i got it off of ebay.com! both cds are in perfect condition with no scratches. the only thing is, the
case has one of the little tabs broken off. oh well though who gives a fuck. anyways, is that list of somms owners still around? if so, can you add me? thank you.
Also, i have two copies of the FOBD single. one of them is kind of brown on the cover, has a thin case and three songs, FOBD, Girl U Want, and FOBD Demo.
another is a big wierd black case. it looks as though it is meant to hold two cds, but i only got one with it. on the back it lists fobd, motorcycle loop, girl u want, and
fobd demo. this is the listing for the cd i have. on the inside, there is a cardboard thing that lists fobd, kyle petty son of richard, and fobd live. am i missing a cd? if so
that sucks!
     anyways, sorry to boast!

Since we really haven't delved into song interps for Chris's new stuff, I had
an idea. Which of the songs on the new album can be interpreted as being
about the breakup of Soundgarden? (In your opinion of course.)
I will say Preaching The End of the World. The whole idea of something
ending kind of makes me think that. That line about being twenty four with
everything to live for seems to be about the youthful optimism they all had.
Then the line about the end saying "there will be no commitment no
confessions, and no little secrets to keep," reminds me of that press release
we all saw on April 9, 1997. How it kind of just ended with out a bang.

Anyway I chose this thread also because you all don't need access to the
songs, but you can read all the words here
(http://www.chriscornell.com/lyrics.html)

Well, regardless of sales, CDNow apparantly has enough faith to let you
pre-order "Euphoria Morning" for $12.99. Of course advance orders for
NIN, Tori Amos and Sloan are availabe as well. And there's no doubt that
these artists (I don't know about the latter) *will* hit big in the
charts that week. Their singles and the videos are already out. But
what's more important, their huge (loyal) fanbases alone, are enough to
propel them to the Top 10, without much help from the media.
