On the rolling stone web site they mention a Soundgarden Album called
foreshocks made in 1994. I never heard of it and I wonder if any of you
guys had and if ya had what songs are on it.

Hi.
MARCO,
Japanese edition has two extra tracks.
but no information what they are.
I suppose one of them is a CCM French version.
Chris tald in the Japanese magazine
that there is different version in CCM which is called French one.
When I heard CCM for the first time,I found it like Paris Musette(?).
I looking forword to it.

I'm listening to Howard Stern right now, and I've just heard two SG clips -
JCP and Dusty. It's early, and that's my cheap entertainment this morning...
:)

Just thought I'd share that.

I just can't get over how incredible this album is. I was expecting it =
to be, but I had no idea. It's got grammy written all over it, not that =
it matters! I don't have time to post a full review, so I'll just make =
a few comments. =20
=20
Preaching The End of The World -
Magnificent ballad. Soulful. The churning drum sample thing really =
grew on me. I didn't really find any notable similarities to BUTOW =
(save of course for the semi-apocalyptic lyrics) - this is a really =
unique song in its own right.
=20
Follow My Way -=20
This was the first one I really latched on to. Strong Zep influence, =
middle-eastern strings, vocals sliding around like warm butter. Bass is =
wonderful and fluid. A true credit to the song. I strongly disagree =
with whoever said something to the effect of 'Chris tries to scream too =
much in this one'. It has a judicious balance of crooning and =
screaming. And the screaming, as always, is artful. The lyrics are =
majestic and oracular, very SG. (to digress, I think in the first =
verse, Chris might actually be saying "through oblivion I'm charged", =
instead of "through oblivion I charge", as he does later). It certainly =
appears this one is not only a partial tip of the hat to Soundgarden =
fans (as, I believe, is 'Disappearing One'), I think it's a brave baring =
of Chris's soul to us in his fears and daring on going solo after such a =
great success as SG, and a plea to follow him on a new adventure =
("follow me down into a swan dive"). GLADLY, my boy.
=20
When I'm Down -
YES! YES! YES! MAGNIFICENT! I had precisely the same image as the =
SOMMSTER who envisioned Chris in a smoky bar crooning this one pianoside =
a la 'The Fabulous Baker Boys'. I agree that this is experimental much =
in the Buckley sense. This one would have fit in perfectly for Jeff on =
Grace. But it's all in Chris's inimitable style. I did get a major =
TOTD vibe in this tune. The gospelish harmonies during the guitar solo =
are AMAZING! LOVE IT.
=20
Mission
I like it. To be honest, it's the one that grabbed me the least, =
though, on the first few listens. It just hasn't really inspired me =
like all of the others, but it could easily grow on me more. Yes, I've =
said it before, and others have too - it's very Alice in Chains.
=20
Wave Goodbye
Wonderful! It really wasn't what I expected this one to sound like, but =
I was pleasantly surprised. Funkadelic. It's wistful, but oddly... I =
don't know.... celebratory. Like a New Orleans funeral party. I agree =
that Chris's falsetto trills at a couple of points in this one are pure =
Buckley, a la Mojo Pin. And why not? It's almost eerie. But it's =
Chris's own style for the rest of the song. The "Lay Down and Die" =
scream gave me chills. As did the beauteous hybrid Jeff-Chris falsetto =
transition part that follows. Thanks for sharing something so personal, =
Chris.
=20
Moonchild -
LOVE IT! I'm a little surprised to hear people expressing =
disappointment with this one. I think it beatiful and purely Chris. =
"Lonesome as gold in a poor man's smile". HA! I love it! The chord =
progressions are in the tradition of Chris's finest. Like melancholy =
bleeding into majesty then resolve. Particularly following the tasty =
guitar solo into the transition "And when if is only yes and no, and now =
becomes too soon." And how Chris sings "you'll be aaAAAlriight" still =
gives me goosebumps. Got a Floyd vibe in one part. I will say, if you =
want to make a comparison to BUTOW, this is the tune, but only for the =
ending fade out. I mean, the first time I heard it, I was singing the =
phantom part, "blow up the outside.......blow up the outside.......blow =
up the outside..........." You'll see what I mean.
=20
Sweet Euphoria
Amazing. Truly the most stripped down on the album and VERY emotive. =
I'll leave it at that.
=20
Disappearing one
AWESOME! Love it!! Matt's playing is the epitome of grace and =
simplicity. The drum roll pattern that follows the first chorus and =
appears later is absolutely TASTY. I will digress at this point as a =
drummer to say that, although the other drummers performed better than I =
thought they would, and do the album justice, Matt shows us in this one =
why he's drumGOD, and I do wish that he had played the entire album. =
Freese's fills are just...OK. They're what you'd expect. But at times =
they just peter out at the end, whereas Matt's original and sycopated =
fills always begin, play out and end STRONGLY, with methodically placed =
kick drum accents. That said, overall, I iterate that Freese, Indrizzo, =
and Rieflin do an admirable job, considering they're not quite at Matt's =
level. That was quite a digression. I apologize. Anyhoo, this tune is =
brooding and melancholy, a true pi=E9ta. (Which makes the amazing =
'Christ' lyric that much more poignant) I think this one's about Chris =
killing and resurrecting his muse in a new body. The chorus almost =
sounds like a reassurance to SG fans, but in all likelihood it's Chris's =
muse addressing him. Wonderful imagery. This is truly one of my =
favorites (what am I saying? Almost all are my favorites!). Radiohead =
in parts. That's good.
=20
Pillow of Your Bones-
Astonishing. Dark, heavy, gothic. Natasha, you have impressed me. The =
lyrics are some of the finest on the album. Truly an expressionist =
painting of words. These and Follow My Way are the closest to the SG =
style of lyrics that you'll find on this album. (Yes, I know Johannes =
and Shneider contributed). I LOVE the verses, as well as the creepy, =
dreamy prechorus and the chorus itself. This song bubbles and seethes. =
DIG the ominous transitions between chorus and verse.
=20
Steel Rain-
Another WONDERFUL brooding tune. A good choice for last song. =
Wonderful emotive slide solo. I'll leave it at that again, except to =
say that, again, I am suprised to hear it said that some think the end =
"falls apart," or is somehow inappropriate to the song. I think the end =
is the best part. I LOVE IT! You can almost hear what falling steel =
rain sounds like. Like something off the soundtrack to the Last =
Temptation of Christ. Pure Gabriel and Middle-eastern. Johannes is a =
MEAN tabla player.
=20
*gasp!* I said more than I thought I would. Sorry. BUY THE ALBUM!!!!

Q: Some of the songs on Title of Record seem to be influenced by early Jane's
Addiction.
A: Well, Perry Farrell is a friend. I met him on Lollapalooza when I was 22.
But I don't know if
he's an influence. Shit, I'm in D on my guitars, so I always think we're a
Soundgarden rip-off. In
fact, I was never going to even play "Hey Man, Nice Shot." I was never even
going to record it
because I figured, "That's Soundgarden." The only person who ever said it
sounded like
Soundgarden was [Soundgarden guitarist] Kim Thayil. He was like, "Yeah, it
sounds like us five
years ago," and I was like, "All right, you little bitch." But he was cool.

Hey y'all,

On the MTV website, there is a link to Making The Video, and afterwards,
when the show is finished, it will be presented on the website for RealVideo
download, as well as the video itself.

Anyway, I know there are people like me who don't get MTV, so is there
anyone who can decode the show or just the video and stick it up somewhere?

I've heard two reasons for Hiro's departure:
        1) he wanted to go (back?) to college
        2) he had lost faith in his songwriting abilities
The two reasons are not incompatible.

Jason Everman auditioned during the same period Ben Shepherd
initially did. Jason knew SG's songs, Ben didn't, a tour was eminent,
so SG went with Jason. Once in the studio Jason "didn't work out"
according to Thayil and Cornell, so they tried again and (thankfully) got
Shepherd. SG's recordings with Jason sound very plodding. I don't
think he quite got it.

PONCIER

Label: Real Clever Records
Venue: The studio
Time: N/A Sound: A

1. Seasons
2. Nowhere But You (Demo)
3. Spoonman (Demo)
4. Flutter Girl (Demo)
5. Missing (Demo)

Notes: "5 Chris Cornell demos (if you have Stolen Prayers, you've got the
songs) This comes in a plastic CD single case. The cover is red with
a black shadow of a guy (supposed to be like Cliff Poncier from Singles)
it says Poncier and the 5 song titles. Found it at a record show. " - Tina

I think the cover of the single is displayed on deb's site. it is
predominantly orange-yellow, with a small picture of him on the right.

I can't make out what the picture on the cd itself is, but it is in the
vein of the 'fell on black days' graphics.

I like it pretty well. Graphics are a bit dated... Has full videos

movie, she also plunks a tape into the drawer. that's poncier only it's a
cassette. the image is cliff with his arms out, kinda... jeff ament/eddie
vedder feel. gotta look quick, it goes by about as fast as mark arm's cameo.

at least thats the version i've always seen. never have seen another cover
for it.

Just an observation- during the verses of Follow My Way doesnt Chris's
singing style have kind of a Steve Miller vibe going along with with it, I
think so.

Hey, no laughter, a friend of mine joined the Army and that's
probably the best thing that ever happened to him (other
than liking Jesus Christ Pose a lot :) . >>

Even if it is clear, it'll still be worth more in the packaging vs. if you
open it to find out. Maybe take it to a local specialty record store & ask
thier opinion, they may be able to help.

Euphoria Morning / Chris Cornell

For 13 years, Chris Cornell's plutonic voice elbowed for room in Soundgarden's guitar stew. "Our approach was that everything
should be louder than every other thing," he says. When the band broke up in 1997, Cornell began his Solo Record, a term us-
ually synonymous with navel-gazing acoustics. Not this time. "Euphoria Morning" is dark and thunderous with, yes, fewer
guitars--but with a vocal turn by Cornell that dominates the album. "Making it was great," he says. "I was hearing myself sound
like I've never sounded before."

that's the review in the August 30, 1999 issue of Newsweek. there is also a picture of chris in it.

i always had it in the back of my mind to write to the list that i thought
"Hey Man Nice Shot" sounded very very Soundgarden...it reminds me of a ton of
different SG songs, ie Flower, JCP, Outshined...i could go on, but i don't
want to

Anyway, triple j has a request thing somewhere at the website i believe if
anyone wants to request it - abc.net.au/triplej - i'm not sure if theres a
www or not, but there should be links to the net 50 request page or
something like that

triple j rocks (most of the time)
