I think this album is going to sell very well. I wish the
production were a little different, but you can't get
that BMF/SU mix every time.

For those of you looking for the album, follow up on that
guy's recommendation of napster, a Win9x program, and be
persistent and patient.

And now from the tooting-my-own-horn department, I wrote
up a little review of CCM. You can read it at
http://theranch.exit118.com/music/cantchangeme.htm
I'd appreciate polite feedback, but do as you must.

Uh..... eloquently put, my friend. Good points, though, as long as Chris
doesn't start trying to write music based on what he thinks will make the
most money.... only then will he become a sellout. Otherwise, let 'em market
the hell out of the new CD! Maybe mainstream WILL turn on to it even if it
IS intelligent, classy music.... genuinely good music has cracked mainstream
before, though not very often.... the last time it tried to happen was in
'97, when mainstream ALMOST began to give Radiohead the attention they
deserve for their own brilliance.... prior to that... well, Black Hole Sun,
anyone? Anyhow, I'm off on a different tangent here. Accept that Chris isn't
going to become complacent in his musical journey, and partake in the
soulful, aural feast that awaits us on 21 SEP. See ya.

Guess what people, I found the guy with all of Euphoria Morning, and I =
think it's Kim. =3DP

Here are my reasons:=20
Instead of "Steel Rain" the track is called "Steel Farm" (Kim's zany =
humour there!)
Here is a small list of some of the bands he has mp3's on (And he has =
like every song these bands ever did)
Corrosion of Conformity=20
Dead Kennedies
Social Distortion
The Clash (Kim's retro 80's influence =3DP)
The Cult

And a whole heap of other crap.. plus this guy's nick is Ran$om leading =
me to believe that Kim has kidnapped Chris and is keeping him in his =

j/k kiddies. (Oh, but I actually did find the guy with EM and im trying =

I finally got a bootleg copy of Euphoria Morning and while it "is" cool, it
is cool in it's own way!

It is nothing like Soundgarden
It is nothing like Temple of the Dog
It is nothing like past Chris solos including Sunshower.

So all will say, is all of you who prefer Chris' harder sound or Temple
sound, buy Euphoria Morning with an EXTREMELY open mind.

I'm having a hard time with it, but there are some standouts and the others
are growing on me.

I agree. In fact when I first heard it I wondered how people could find
it "upbeat", it still sounds poignant to me. Then again, Fluttergirl was
never one of my favorite songs. I liked everything except the word
Fluttergirl. I always hoped it was just a working title, and that he
would come up with something better, because I really like the rest of
the lyrics. But thats beside the point....

This was my impression, too. I've heard that the notorious sleazy
manager thinks Preaching the End will be the big breakthrough song, but
I don't see that (unless he's planning on making Chris into the male
Mariah). Its a nice song, but Follow My Way really grabs you. And I kind
of wonder if it wasn't written with us in mind, asking us to hang in
there with him through this period of change.

Hello people

Guess what i found at Au go go...!?! (This is taken from Steven Russell Jr's
page).

Room a Thousand Years Wide (SUB POP, September 1990, $15/used black,
$20/used grape - ($25/black-$35/grape mint) )

A. Room a Thousand Years Wide
B. H.I.V Baby

Notes: SUB POP Single of the Month Club release. Limited to 5000 copies,
first 1500 pressed on grape vinyl. First recordings with new bassist Ben
Shepherd. Both appear to be different versions than what appears on the Born
To Choose compilation and the Badmotorfinger release. "The 'H.I.V Baby'
single was a special bonus Single's Club installment, it was sent out to
club members in September of 1990, between I think after #23. We sent the
black ones to Club members, not the weird purple ones." - SuzyD

I found me a purple one (used).. :) My first coloured SG vinyl. I paid
*quite* a bit more than what it says here, but it had actually been reduced
from another higher figure. And hey, when you work out the exchange rates
and all that.. i did pretty well. :) :) :)

you may now continue with your little arguments. Excellent haikus, i must
say..

Later
Koggle

ps. i don't think it's so terrible to get EM on mp3.. if my computer were
any better, i think i might too. Serves em right for delaying the release..

Subject: Warm your hands inside my veins, I might be contagious

Hey y'all,

Here is my super EM review, song by song. I know Justin did it first, and my
originality is wasted after this, but I really did want to do this before
him, really! :) Anyway, you all must be wondering how I have this. I can't
say, but lets just say 'Elvis' helped me out. hehe.

Anyway, let's get on to the point. Chris put out a great CD, but this
probably won't be commercially successful IMO. Unless Preaching's video is
done by McG (who does all those flashy Sugar Ray and Smash Mouth vids) as it
is defintily guaranteed heavy rotation on MTV.

People expect a rock CD. Chris put out a musicians CD. People should know by
now that Chris is a musician, not a rocker. His tracks on EM are sure to
disapoint many people that expect Chris to have song after songs grind out
heavy guitar while not really using his vocal talents. Chris goes from funk,
folk, acoustic, rock (many varieties..), jazz, blues, soul and many more.
So, based on the reviews I read, they want Soundgarden, not Chris. If they
want Soundgarden, go buy DOTU. Chris can't do anything but make his own
music without the three other gents..

Can't Change Me
I reviewed this when it came out. So, I'll just say its Beatle-esque. Chris
does a lot of harmonies, but is not the strongest song on the album. It is,
a good song, but Chris can do better, which he shows on the rest of the
tracks.
*** 1/2 out of *****

Fluttergirl
I'm using one word here cause that's how I know that song. I reviewed it as
well, but I love the new version. They lyrics of FG don't really convey a
SERIOUS thought of leaving the girl. In his mind, he's left her, so now he
wants her to leave him. I think every aspect of this song kicks some ass,
and shows a new side of Chris, the fun side we never really got to see in
SG.
**** 1/2 out of *****

Preaching The End Of The World
You know those songs that they use in dramatic movies, in the trailers? The
ones that show happiness and a lot of hugging? :) Well, I can so see this
song in it. Very Beatle-esque as well, voice does many, many turns on it. A
beautiful song, and well placed. The drumming is quite good, as Freese has a
number of nice fills. It is what I call, an epic song, and this and Steel
Rain share this. The ending is climatic, and reminds me a lot of Tighter and
Tighter. One of my faves, that prolly won't stop.
***** out of *****

Follow My Way
As close to Soundgarden as you can get. Chris screams to the backdrop of
guitars and some digital doo-dah that was put in. It sounds like something
like Zero Chance, with a dab of An Unkind in it. Its a good song, the lyrics
are ok. He screams too much during the chorus, like he's trying to make a
point, which is redundant. The "lowly, slowly" part and the instrumental
before make this song listenable. Again, and again. Probably a single.
**** out of *****

When I'm Down
I'm a big fan of Jeff Buckley as of late. I agree with Justin wholeheartedly
that this song sounds like him. But I don't want this song to be a whole,
copy of Buckley song. It isn't. I always wanted to start on jazz, and was
told Miles Davis was a good starting point. After hearing this song, I think
I'll pick up a copy of Davis. The whole song gives a great atmosphere, one
you'd expect Chris in a smokey, jazz bar. Natasha playing keyboard, Alain
doing the background instrumental, and Chris, standing, singing. There's
tables filled with couples, drinking cocktails, humming to this song. Chris
is doing hand movements, during the middle, when he uses his voice, people
get goosebumps. If people hate rock, and want to experience one of the
greatest voices known to man, this song is for you. Actually, I think Chris
had Susan in mind when he wrote this. As well, remember when he talked about
using his voice harder and writing songs that were "too personal"? A classic
example right here.
***** out of ******

Mission
A song I don't really care about when I first heard it. The intro blew me
off immediately. There's gonna be gripes about that stupid "laugh" as Justin
said. As time went on, and I talked to 'Elvis' some more, I realized, this
is very TOTDish. I wonder if Chris had this in mind when he wrote it.
*** out of *****

Wave Goodbye
'Elvis' said this, and I agree, that this is very uptempo then I'd imagine.
The guitar comes close with to Fluttergirl with the reverb on the guitar.
And come to think about it, its faster than you'd imagine, but a tad bit
slower than FG. There are times, like at 1:27 and 2:30 where the soul of
Buckley is inside Chris, and his voice gets the high octave that I miss.
Yes, Chris hits em high on this. It does have a bluesy atmosphere to it, as
Chris is mourning softly, but the organ that Natasha plays picks it up a
bit. I won't be "waving goodbye" to this song anytime soon..
***** out of *****

Moonchild
The second song I didn't care much about. Take this and Mission out and you
have the greatest album I've heard yet. The chorus seems, too forced to be
liked. See Mission for more.
** 1/2 out of *****

Sweet Euphoria
I talk about personal experiences a lot that I can connect with songs. This
is very Seasons-ish. Chris, and a guitar. He doesn't use the hard voice we
all know until the end. I can't really talk about the song, as its well, you
have to hear it. It's...perfect....the lyrics seem hokey, but you must hear
it from him to understand.
***** out of *****

Disapeering One
I've played clairinet for a few years when I was in school, and when I heard
this, I was like "that's a oboe!". I'm stupid. It blends, and like Sweet
Euphoria, I'm biased as I can connect to it. What it lacks is the crappy
instrumental inbetween the chorus and the second verse. "Painting of
Christ....nailed you down" is a great, great line. I can see Chris singing
this with a smile on his face..:) And yes, Matt does a nice number on this,
not a "Wishlist on Letterman" song, but not a JCP version either. Glad to
have him collaborating again with CC. Too bad Kim wasn't plucked from
obscurity (oh come on..you know without us he'd be nothing)
***** out of *****

Pillow of Your Bones
'Elvis' said this song and Steel Rain ended the record perfectly. I don't
know, its very TOTD-ish. A very Wooden Jesus feel to it. The chorus is
something that you don't expect. A soft, light duet with Natasha (who isn't
credited with vocals, dammit) and a nice echoey voice that Chris is slowly
loving to use. I like this song, for its chorus, not the verses itself. It
could have been done better.
*** 1/2 out of *****

Steel Rain
Justin made a point, with Boot Camp, but you know how we generally agree
that Boot Camp ended DOTU perfectly, and I believe that Like Suicide and S&B
ended their respectful albums nicely, this one ends EM perfectly. A song, in
my mind, for Susan. A very, very lonely song. I wish this song would be a
video, as I could see Chris singing sadly again (as I did in BOTOW) but,
alas, the American public don't need to be depressed this decade again. The
ending of the song, indeed is weird, and could have been touched up on...but
a remarkable song. It gives me shivers now, that I'm listening to it.
**** out of ******

Total Score - 4.2 out of 5 (rounded up)

So, I tried to give it a fair review, as I was harsh on some songs.

Thanks for listening.

Dave
