The REAL cover kicks ass, but the promo one was plain. But for being a
promo version it kicked ass.

And about people on this list likeing RFTC... as Petey X said in an
interview, "People in america are scared of us cause we are in your face
the entire show. They also don't like us cause we are diffrent and
people in the US only want what is popular. But the people in the UK
love it." I don't think there is many on this list that like em. Me and
Dave are gonna have to take this board over and pound the gospel of
Rocket into your heads. hehehe

SURVIVE CKROA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh Toni, Chris would never go on those shows. You know better than
that!! We all know he is waiting to get out to LA and do either the
Donny and Marie Show or Roseanne. You know the better shows! :-\

Better yet, I'm sure he can do a Jerry Springer when he does the big
tour and comes to Chicago. Wait I got it, "Did removing his shirt cause
the bands break up". In this show a tearful Matt tells how in total
frustration he removed his pants in protest. Kim tells how he was
driven to drink out of shame. And Ben states "I could just spit". :=)
I know not very SG worth, but a little fun now and then doesn't hurt.

I think as long as Chris sings live on TV, I'd watch it. :) Regardless of
the show. And musicians don't necessarily have to be interviewed..just a
small "hello" does it.

HAhahah :) But you gotta include some crazed lesbian love affair, or have
some secret that Ben likes to wear diapers and get spanked come out :)
That's a Springer show. Oh, and have Kim marry a porn star and go into porn
movies. Now you have a show :)

demo from Stolen Prayers. There's a bit of Beatle in there somewhere (think

Yeah, they said they didn't like doing them, but they did them. Hell,
for a while they were on Headbangers Ball and other MTV shows
constantly. I know Headbangers Ball isn't Letterman, but the format and
purpose are identical. I can't really picture him on Rosie or Regis,
but I think Letterman or Leno could be a real possibility, and why not?
They usually don't talk to musicians anyway, they just let them play a
song or two at the end of the show and then the host holds up the CD or
whatever and does a plug for it while acting like the musician's
greatest fan. I wouldn't even object to his sitting and talking to
someone like Letterman - at least we'd get a chance to SEE him.

> Would he be pushed
> into
> doing this by that sleazy pimpish manager Jimmy?

This manager is definitely an opportunist, but did we talk like this
about Susan when Soundgarden did things we didn't like? From what I
understand Susan worked diligently to mold Soundgarden into a successful
image, sometimes pushing them into situations that were awkward and even
downright ridiculous (opening for Skid Row? Danzig?) But people get
highly offended if someone suggests that she or the band were doing
anything they didn't 100% believe in just to sell records. Yeah, I agree
this manager is a jerk, but hell, this is his livelihood (and Chris'). I
think everyone at some point has to do some things they don't exactly
want to do in order to move forward in their career or just in life.

> Not only does this talk
> about Chris, but also how the media manipulates people towards

I don't know if you realize what an astute observation this is, Dave.
But let me twist it beyond your recognition. Some people are objecting
strongly to Chris' "changed style". Who knows, maybe this is the REAL
Chris, the way Chris has always been, and maybe Soundgarden was Chris
putting on an act. (I'm just putting ideas out here, so don't rip me
apart) We seem to forget that the people we see on stage are
"performing" and that the persona they project is not the same one you
would see if you were to, say, walk in on Chris watching TV in his
underwear. Its unlikely that many (if any) of us will ever know the
*real* Chris - so why don't we just sit back and relax and watch this
all play out. I imagine this has all got to be pretty intimidating for Chris....

And to those of you complaining that Chris looks too skinny: You really
should be more sensitive. DON'T YOU REALIZE CHRIS HAD TO GO ON A HUNGER
STRIKE TO GET THIS DAMN ALBUM RELEASED! Seriously, I think he looks
great. And as far as promotions - I'll take him any way I can get him (hehe)

Subject: Re: NEW Fluttergirl in real audio on official site

I just heard Fluttergirl form the official site jukebox and as much as i
like 'Can't Change Me'...i like this song even better. Both songs of course
are heavily Beatles influenced (i'm actually tired of throwing this
comparison in like everyone else but i am a fan of their music and you just
can't really seem to escape it when listening to Cornell's work).
CCM is accessibly poppy-sounding (this coming form an ex-Soundgarden
member? bizarre but true) and extremely polished (like it was intended to be
"the first" single) with even echoes of The Rolling Stones' 'Paint It Black'
at parts (the intro and after 1st chorus.) The lyrics, though not quite as
deep, multi-faceted (seemingly, although possibly more personal) or
melancholy as the majority of Soundgarden's work remind me of lighter
Beatles fare like 'I'll Get You' (similar structure and pacing at times,
though this Beatles song is definitely more 'pop'). And it's not like Chris
hasn't written deep, multifaceted lyrics for himself in the past either.
Look at Seasons, Like Suicide, Say Hello to Heaven, Reach Down, Times of
Trouble, or All Night Thing. The mental imagery those songs' lyrics evoke
and the emotions and sensations i emote from those songs resonate longer and
impact me more deeply on a personal level. I guess i was hoping the same
from CCM but was left wanting more from the first single. Don't get me
wrong, i like the song and the more i listen to CCM it grows on me. Actually
hearing it on the local rock station the other day for the first time
(instead of on mp3) made it seem more 'real' to me.
Fluttergirl though, fills that gap for me that CCM left. It's is
definitely abit more pumped up in sound and tempo than the demo from 'Stolen
Prayers' which makes it fly by even more quickly (excuse the pun). Actually
I like this change since as much as i love the demo, i always felt it went
on a little too long for my taste. This new version, feeling more complete
and finished than the demo, sounds even 'more' Beatle-esque than CCM. While
Fluttergirl's strings and its guitar solo whisper of George Harrison songs
like 'While My Guitar Gently Weeps', his altered, synthesized voice in the
last stanza of lyrics before the final chorus brings to mind 'Across the
Universe'.

I think CCM is the 'hook' to Euphoria Morning as songs like Fluttergirl
will be the 'line' that keeps the listener's (and the ever hopeful yet
faithful fan's) attention and hopefully the 'sinker' (i mean that in a good
way) will be a heavier tempo driven song like the afformentioned 'Steel
Rain'. I'm hoping since the album ends with that particular song, it will be
reminiscent in tone of earlier sg songs like 4th of July, Mind Riot, New
Damage, or Like Suicide ('THE' one excelent incomparable sg/cornell album
finale). Though, so far at this point i will expect a more mellow, perhaps
poppy, albeit yet melancholy end.

Looking forward to the rest of the album with bated breath (and fingers
crossed)...

Subject: Shiz about CCM/Chris/etc

I've been lurking for a few months now, and I guess I may as well say
something...

I'm definitely ready to admit that I'm very used to hearing Kim, Ben and
Matt behind Chris. I'm USED to him fronting Soundgarden, or at least part of
Soundgarden. I really don't like Eleven at all, and I didn't like Ave Maria
either. I think I'll just have to get used to hearing them behind his voice
and not Soundgarden. Eleven, to me, has a decidedly more eastern style, and
I'm not too fond of their shiz. But I love Chris's voice, I will always love
Chris's voice. 'Can't Change Me' is a very poppy, crooning, odd little song,
and I don't realy like it that much as of yet. I hope that once I get
accustomed to the absence of Thayil, Shepherd, and Cameron, the song will
start to grow on me. I don't like how they revamped Fluttergirl, either, but
I'm still going to give the album a chance, and I'll go see the show if he
plays here in Seattle (and if he doesn't I may very well die of shock). I
don't hate his solo stuff, but he was right, it's very un-Soundgarden and I
wasn't expecting it at all.

Also, that new picture they just put up on the CC page is... well... to be
blunt... horrible. (IMO) He looks like a greasy-teeny-boppers-love-me pop
singer!!

Anyway... oh, and about SOMMS being dubbed the 'Soundgarden Bitch List'
by... Alex, was it? Uhm... unless you like being bitched at (ie people
expressing opinions), why don't you just leave? It isn't that hard.
Definitely easier than writing out a pointless email for others to wade
through (that, to me, sounded more like a bitchy message than most of the
others I read). No offense, I'm just being honest. :)

I like the faster tempo, too. I'm not sure how I feel about the really
blatant Beatles influence. The song pratically steals a guitar riff
from WMGGWeeps. Cornell sounds a bit like Thom Yorke in parts, and the
production at the end sounds like CC liked Rubber Soul a whole lot.

I haven't heard much Eleven, but Soundgarden's material has a lot of
non-Western
musicality. The 7/8 time in Spoonman, the bizarre Half, He Didn't, and so on.
I have no idea how much Kim's nationality affects his playing, as in was he
exposed to more eastern music as a kid? Well, Cornell writes some weird-time
stuff, too, so there you are.

Hey, I just listened to the new version of Fluttergirl. Is he serious?
Is this a joke or something? What was wrong with the Stolen Prayers
version? Why did he have to speed it up? It sounds all, how do I put
this, peppy, and I really personally dont like it. I mean, come on! He
said this whole album was supposed to be focused on singing parts and
lyrics! Look at the lyrics! They aren't "happy" and "peppy" and "oh,
look at me, I live in a little gumdrop house on lollypop lane!" It's a
sad song. It's saying to a girl that he'd only hurt her, so just flutter
home. You'd think Chris would reflect the image of the lyrics in the
music, right? That's the point of this solo album? Where you can
actually appreciate the music and not just headbang. I tried to
appreciate Cant Change Me, and I do, I kind of like it. The 6/8 timing
gives it a nice flow, but Fluttergirl is just lacking something. Or
maybe it's the crappy quality of RA. I dont know. Or maybe it's Natasha
and Alain's (spelled right?) influence. They were given credit on the
song, am I wrong? (hey, that rhymed...)

But anyways, if anybody feels the same, it's good to know. I have a
sneaky suspicion I'm not going to be liked too well on this list after
this post....

Huh? From: Mike, but signed by Andy?

Anyway, maybe when Chris first wrote it he had a different emotional viewpoint
than he does now that he's recorded an official release version. I was
watching
Bravo Profiles David Bowie and Bowie mentioned that when younger he'd had
empathy
for hapless unheros', but now he felt pity for them. Perhaps Chris has
changed
from whining about tough situations to simply knowing what's right and finding
strength in one's choice, belief that maybe it's for the better. A different
tone than most pop love songs I think.

Okey doke. So I heard the new flutter girl. Now what.

I was trying to pin down just how it sounded and I thought of the Beatles.
And that was before I read previous posts on this song. And being a Beatles
fan, I am appreciative of the new version.

However........

I LIKED it slower. I LIKED it draged out. I LOVED the melancholy.
The melancholy is still there, a bit.
Hopefully, after a few more listenings, I'll be able to get over it.

But all in all, it's a good song. I just wish my real audio player was
better.

Its got groove.

Its got soul.

The lyrics are a definite parallel of any blues song.

You can shake your thing along with it.

Its got Beatles influnces.

The chorus is so fucking cool.

Sure, it sounds like a crappy drum machine in the beginning, but the song
takes off.

Does anyone here that guitar at the end that's also played in those 70's
Action b-movies? You know, like Shaft, the music and stuff. That's funny
shit :)

I love it. I think I've said enough. I can't wait for this song to be
released. I can't wait for EM. I can't wait to sing this at auditions :)

Dave

this. Deb, there is a accompanying pic, if you want me to scan it, e-mail me

Chris Cornell - Euphoria Morning (A&M)

In the battle of Seattle-based trends, Starbucks has stomped grunge rock's
raggedy butt. Luckily a few flannel-clad veterans have survived: First Dave
Grohl stepped out from behind the long Cobain with his fiesty Foo Fighters,
and now frontman Chris Cornell has left Soundgarden in the wee and gone
solo. But Cornell is no longer a raging young man, as you might guess from
an album title that sounds like Jewel's favourite potpourri scent. His
soulful vouce and wicked guitar remain jawdroppingly powerful, and a couple
tracks do hit the hooky howl and twisted lyrical melodrama of later
Soundgarden hits like "Black Hole Sun", but most - "Fluttergirl" and
"Moonchild," for example - drift closer to power-ballad territory. Don't get
us wrong: Cornell still grinds out rich, full-bodied rock - only now its
been decaffeinated.

3 out of 5

Personally, I think its a bad rating, considering they give Chris Rock 4/5..

Dave

P.S. UKDeb..e-mail me for the pic..

True. Reminder that Matt did Letterman with Pearl Jam...so going on
Letterman isn't out of the possibility.

I
>think everyone at some point has to do some things they don't exactly

I will still call Jimmy a sleazeball regardless :) But isn't Chris smart
enough (and he's got a former manager as his wife for cripe's sake) to
realize that if this isn't a thing he doesn't like to do, NOT to do it?

>
>I don't know if you realize what an astute observation this is, Dave.

Thank you. Someone FINALLY listens :)

>Chris....

To put it into perspective, Chris has an unofficial list with (I don't know
the real total) hundred's of people on the list DROOLING and FOLLOWING his
every word. I mean, I watched the Matrix after he said it was cool (which it
was). He doesn't know it, but he influeneces people, not only on this list.
So it MUST be hard to try new material.

True, we all will never know the real Chris, and unless he write an
autobiography, we never will. If this new album opens a small crack into his
psyche, then I'm all for it. Of course, we are going to judge him ever so
closely, but I hope that won't be a bad thing. Will it? Well, if any one
hates it. I'll flame ya :)

I selected the below quote merely as a convenient example of a point.
There has been much discussion (and many complaints) that Chris has
"gone soft" and he is now some sort of
folk/weepy/Carpenter/I'vegottabrandnewpairofrollerskates kind of
musician. Many people have compared CCM to Soundgarden's heavy
guitar-laden songs. My point is this. SOUNDGARDEN BROKE UP! Chris
Cornell, as he said in an interview, is only one quarter of the vision
that was Soundgarden. Just because he was in a band that was known for
fairly heavy stuff does not mean that he has to remain true to that
formula. Soundgarden rocked hard. Chris Cornell is Chris Cornell and
is allowed to make his OWN kind of music. Thanks for allowing me to
ramble.

>I can assept the lack of heaviness on TotD, but after hearing CCM I
think
>Chris has gone soft, and that all these years in SG it was Kim who was
the

I love it!!

Why didn't he release this one first? It would have
spared me a week of doubting, that's for sure. This
is the sort of thing I was expecting/hoping for from
Chris.

Everything about this song is cool. Influences' are
obviously 'The Beatles' but I detect a lot of, really
quite surprisingly, 'Beck' in there. Especially the
beginning. Unlike Can't Change Me however, he hasn't
taken his influences and created something uninspired
and second rate, instead he's created something
unique, new and exciting. Just like SG did with their
obvious influences.

I'll have to listen to it more (and hopefully soon in
better format than realplayer) but it sounds like
there's a lot of sampling in there, with both
instruments and vocals (there's that Beck thing
again).

I think this version is for the most part better than
the original. Especially the chorus. I love the way
he sings "And I give nothing for free" now.

Sorry, I can't really think of many coherent comments
right now. I'm too hyped up!

Jay.

thats a new one!! i didnt hear any type of sampling whatsoever in the song,
just some goofy drum machine type thing making lots of noise in the
background. it's rather hard to hear his voice in these new songs, at times,
you get so distracted by the Beatles' music thing going on. at least i do,
and i know i've had others say they do too. He just didnt need to refrence
them so obviously, ya know? Black Hole Sun had beatles in it, but it wasn't
like he was sounding like a bad beatles cover artist on that track. NOT TO
COMPARE TO SOUNDGARDEN, PEOPLE! just to compare what he's done with Songs
he's written in the past, on his own. BHS was his. the BHS solo he did on the
last tour didnt even sound this much like the beatles. frankly, it's getting
annoying. If i wanted to buy a beatles tribute album, i'd go buy one.

Magic my humble friend. The Soundgarden gods must desend towards your
existence and grant you their most rare songs. But with one condition. That
you see out the Jade Monkey before the sun sets on the 27th day of October.
Go, now!

ooooooooooor you could just hop on over to UKDeb's site!

http://www.rustycage.u-net.com/discography/flutter.htm

and i've got no real problems with RA. [once i got the thing working right /
got the upload] hell, it takes zero time to download as compared to us 28.8
modem people trying to hear an mp3.

anyone else notice a few small lyrics changes?
