hahaha! I never thought I'd see the day Ben would be referred to as a
good role model.

FOBD is probably my favorite SG song and I like the video version the
best.

Really, you never had? I've known this for ages. Chris divulges it in
an interview somewhere.

i was just thinking... the gap between Chris's New York shop and his DC show
is 3 days, while it certainly only takes one day to get from one place to the
other... i'm thinking.... CC is gonna do one or two talk late night shows to
promote the album... anyone know how to find out about this and maybe even
get tickets if its happening?

Okay, from around Boston going to go see Chris? I'd like to get a
group going. Also, although someone posted the Sanders Theater as the
venue, I heard on WBCN that he's actually going to play Avalon, which
makes much more sense. Anyways, e-mail me if you're interested in going.

Screamin Life/Fopp---Little Joe. I love in Motervision where they throw
this song in the middle of the show. it's funny as hell.

Louder Than Love---- not to sure.

isn't it really sad that chris, at least partially, is being marketed for his
looks? most of the places on chriscornell.com include pictures of chris...
pictures that look like they coud be on the cover of tiger beat (oh please
no!!!). Is it just me, or is it really sad that with all the work of
soundgarden going for him chris is still being marketed based on his looks?
On the other hand, the music and talent part has got everyone on his list
lined up to buy the record but new audiences... how else? oh well... if
teeny boppers start flocking to chris, the good part is, a small part will
stick to the music when someone better looking comes along and SOMMS is gonna
have some new members... the bad part is.... the New York show best not sell
out before I get my hands on some tickets!!!! btw, can any fellow NY SOMMSter
suggest a place for a pre-show get-together? there have got to be a lot of
people on this list who are going... i'd suggest my house but i live my
parents...

I find this ironic. Every chick in the music business is marketed from a
stand point of sex appeal. Why should CC be any different? Of course it is
sad, but the reality is that people who look like baffoons and have talent
don't draw attention like people with talent *and* looks do. I don't think
that it is an accident that the big names in music have some sort of
marketable trait, besides their talent.

And while we are on the subject of Chris's pictures, I think they are down

not true at all. if you notice, it's only the women who have no talent who
are marketed for their sex appeal. i mean what else can you market britney
spears for? but when did you ever see tori amos half naked on the cover of
rolling stone? never. and it never will happen. and of course there's
ricky martin and backstreet. same deal. naked women surrounding them on
rolling stone. no talent means the record company has to find a different
way to sell them. i don't think we have to worry about this with chris.
however, if the leachy managers and record company executives feel they can
increase the weight of their wallets by forcing chris to pose for a few
pictures, then they're going to do it whether we, or chris for the matter,
like it or not.

Alright,
first off, Koggle, the australian dollar, is better than the canadian, and
I'm trying to make people understand that they aren't so out of luck like
they think they are. and YES BANDS GO TO TORONTO AND VANCOUVER AND
MONTREAL!!like i said they did, they just don't bother with the rest of
Canada. I'm not insulting my country, just our economy. It is VERY nice
either other than the cold.
And secondly, I'll admit it, Soundgarden came to Edmonton twice.
Not to saskatchewan where i was living at the time! *but that's TOTALLY
understandable*
I would just really like it if people gave canadians the opportunity to see
their show more than once, or at least at an all ages place.
We buy the records too.

You people must be kidding. Of course sex sells, of course the music
industry uses
it more than many others. Tori Amos may not have appeared half-naked, but
I think
sex appeal is a HUGE part of her whole thing. Still I have to agree with what
someone said earlier: we have enough undead LA rock stars ala Dave Navarro.
 I just
hope Cornell hasn't gotten into anything stronger than tobacco and the
occasional
beer or kind.

BTW My favorite song on Screaming Life is Little Joe; the Motorvision
version is
great. On Louder than Love I like I Awake the most. It's the closest
thing LTL has
to Beyond the Wheel, in my opinion.

You know what, it's so damn close, who knows which will be worth more
tomorrow.. My point is that it's not TERRIBLE. Right now i think it's like
93c australian or something..

I'd better have some SG content.. i got to see the new pic (and the album
cover.. how the heck did you get that one, Deb?). I don't care if some of
you guys think he's reached his lowest levels yet.. he's hot, why not flaunt
it!

If he wasn't into the whole image thing, would he have his face on the
cover? I can't think of another album with such a clear picture of him..
maybe he's always wanted to do that and the other guys convinced him
otherwise. Who knows.. i think it's great!

Well actually I seem to vaguely remember a Q cover (or
similar mag) with Tori in barely anything. I think it
was just gold body paint or something? (someone help
me out here). And I've seen other sexy pictures of
her, as well of plenty of other very talented female
and male artists. It's not necessarily a matter of
being marketed on their sex appeal, but everyone wants
to look there best when they're getting photograhped,
don't they?

I can't quite see what you people are complaining
about with this one. Isn't it reasonable that there
are pictures of Chris on the official site? There's
always been tons of pictures of Chris everywhere
anyway. At least now he's got his shirt on!

Oh and by the way, I listened to U2's Achtung Baby for
the first time in yonks, and now for some reason I
like Can't Change Me a bit more. It's as if listening
to Achtung Baby put Can't Change Me in a new context
for me. Explain that one.

Jay.

On that Cameron site ( http://mattcameron.cjb.net/ ) is an interview that
has some interesting insight on both Cameron and Cornell's recording
techniques:

"One way people use Pro Tools is as a tape machine, and it's a pretty
amazing piece of gear in that sense. You can record straight into a
computer and use all the plug-ins and editing capabilities, all the sound
effect options, and you do it all right on the spot. Chris is recording his
record that way."

"I got a couple songs into it, but it was so draining to keep looking into
that comupter screen--these blips and bleeps and squiggles--that I just
didn't see it as music anymore. It became this scientific, technological
thing, and it really fatigued me. It even affected the sound. When I went
back to a tape machine, I felt a lot more at home."

To each his own, I suppose.
