Hey Ben Timberlake, I was reading your post and like.. whoa!! I totally =
agree, except for one thing:
My recommendation is that you listen to SU ( or any other album for that =
matter) in surroundings that remind you of that time in your life - It =
creates this weird emotional stronghold.=20

P.S Has anyone heard of a band called Days of the New? I recommend them, =
if you like AIC.

I have. They're very, how do I put this, bad. Who sings a song about a
shelf in a room?? I prefer the mastermind songwriting and musicianship
talents of the SG boys. Travis Meeks pales in comparison...

Pasted from undercover.net.au (how the hell Hole managed #6, and SG #80
beats me).

"Nirvana's 'Nevermind' is the most popular album of the 90's according to
Spin Readers. The final countdown is an interesting list in that only two
acts, Nirvana and PJ Harvey have more than one album rating a mention.
Nirvana are at #1 with 'Nevermind' and #18 with 'In Utero'.
PJ Harvey is at #3 with 'To Bring You My Love' and #37 with 'Rid Of Me'.
90's supergroups such as Pearl Jam, Soundgarden and Red Hot Chili Peppers
barely rate a mention in the list.
Pearl Jam's only showing is at #33 with 'Ten', Red Hot Chili Peppers only
rate a #58 for 'Blood Sugar Sex Majik' and poor old Soundgarden are
almost forgotten down at #80 with 'Superunknown'.
Even Smashing Pumpkins only claim one place with 'Siamese Dream' just
making the Top 30.
Rating much higher in the expensive seats are credible but non-commercial
releases like Pavements 'Slanted and Enchanted' at #5 and My Bloody
Valentines 'Loveless'.=20
We'd like to hear what your top 3 albums of the 90's are. List them at
top3@undercover.net.au and we'll compile your list for tomorrows news.

Well everyones entitled to their own oppinion....but when I first saw the
vid for Touch Peel and Stand I thought they were Sg wanabees...but then I
got the album and their nothing alike....
Get the album and read the lyrics and you'll know its not as simple as just
singing about a shelf in the room.....
Travis doesn't even like SG or AIC anyway

days of the new.....yeah....i liked the few singles ("touch peel and
stand"...."shelf in a room"....can't think of the name of the third
one)...that i heard on radio stations a lot....but from what i
know...the lead singer (who was only like 18 at that time....i guess
recreational drugs makes you look a lot older eh?...."note to
self...stop recreational drugs")....the lead singer fired everyone else
in the band....kept the name days of the new....formed a whole new
backup band...and is going to be coming out with an album soon....the
rest of the members...however....also kept the name (but it's like "days
of the new, mark two" or something like that)....and are looking for a
new album deal.....

give the guy a break.....he's only 18...i'm sure that for those of us
who are writers/poets/whatever....you look at the stuff we do now...and
it's wonderful...breath-taking....but look at stuff we did when we were
pre-adults...(i'm guessing he wrote those when he was between the ages
of 15-17...)....and the stuff will seem very juvinile....i'm sure that
chris (the rock god that he is....please do not try and detect a hint of
sarcasm because i love the words this man pens)...but i bet even
chris....if we were to see his stuff from way back in the day (if he
wrote any stuff then that is)....it was all probably good...for that
frame of mind....but it was probably juvinille....

getting back to adrian's little point...and adding to this....now in my
books, chris can do no wrong...but...if you're going to make such a
crude point as to say that "who writes about a shelf in a
room"...well...tell me who writes about a rooster (aic)....who writes
about ty cobb (a "bitchin" song) and focuses on lyrics that basically go
on and on and on to repeat "hard headed fuck you all" (sg)....who writes
about november rain (g'n'r)....who writes about experiencing a "love
buzz" (nirvana)...who would write about a "porch" (pj)....don't get me
wrong...i'm not a fan of days of the new...and meeks is no
layne...cornell...vedder....etc....but i am defending him because if
nothing else...he is a writer/poet/however you want to look at it...and
you have to look at the words beyond the surface....and what they
mean....you can never take anything for face value...especially in songs
that deal with emotions....and are meant to deal with the writer's
trauma....you've got to see the song for what they are writing
about...not merely for the words that are put down....there's a reason
that individual chose those words in that order....the metaphores...the
passion....i'm sorry...i'm babbaling now....but i'm a strong believer in
song being an extention of one's inner self...and song writers being
poets....(writers of "baby one more time"...."livin la vida
loca"...."steal my sunshine"...."the vengaboys"...etc....are excluded
from this group of poetry song writers...ofcourse)....
