I'm willing to bet that would be a good possibility. The Chris mini-tour
dates don't mention Seattle anywhere. He'd BETTER, that'd be the only reason
I'd go to Bumbershoot :).

Hell, Hater played at Bumbershoot a few years ago....

It's 'Queens of the Stone Age' btw. And where was this, and what song(s)??
Although it doesn't sound suprising to me when I think about it (John McBain
co-wrote one of the best songs on the QotSA album), it still IS surprising.

See, the thing is, unlike other people on this list, I do my research. I
don't know if its still up on Seth's site, but there was a update after our
boys decided to end their run as "Good Rock Band", or something, I forget
what they called themselves. I think it was Savage Garden, or something
around that. But back to the point in question, Matt played a set I believe
at the OK with them. That's all I can remember. I tried looking for it, but
I can't find the update. Oh well.

No, I'm positive that it is 4th Of July that was called Vietnam. When
Superunknown was being made I remember reading a few articles on the long
awaited record. It said there that Vietnam was one possible song or 4th of
July. I didn't mean to say Tiffany was wrong, I actually think your interp
was really interesting, something I hadn't seen, if a bit over emphasised
on the religious aspect. I know chris was originally religious but he
became increasingly bitter with religious hypocrisy etc. and used to go
around digging up graves with his friends in his teens, so I really don't
think he is a true God fearing man. But if I am wrong fair enough,
however, if you listen to the lyrics:
"Shower in the dark day, clean sparks diving down." Sparks of war.
"Breathing life like fire" Anger, mass death.
"Pale in the flare light, the scared light cracks and disappears,
and leads the scorched ones here."
"Down in the hole Jesus tries to crack a smile beneath another shovel
load." More reference to the nations sons dying in mass numbers whilst a
good, democratic, religious government wavered action.

The lyrics are almost like a vet just spinning out pages of emotion which
shows Chris' classic empathy and ability to capture a situation.
Johnny.

I don't know if there's any significance, but mine is gold too. I can only
speculate, but it might be the difference between new and old productions
of it (I got mine last year - reletively new you might say). It may also
have something to do with where it was released.

Or not, whatever.

No need to flame someone for actually believing
something he read in a magazine...did you for a
minute, stop and think that the quote just might be
something that could have actually come out of Chris
Cornell's mouth? Do you feel that you know Chris
Cornell well enough to be absolutely certain that he
would have never done such a thing? ???????!!!!

I believe that Johnny Utah got his comment from
Kerrange Magazine, August '94.
Okay, so Mr. Utah took it a little bit TOO literally.
So what! "In a million years, who is gonna care?"

In Mr. Cornell's defense, you flamed Mr. Utah...so in
Mr. Utah's defense, this is for you...

Chris Cornell's face adorns the cover of the mag and
the headline boldly reads: "We Dig Up Graves"
Then later, in the feature article, Chris is quoted by
saying:
'"You know what I think about voodoo! I came here a
few years ago with my buddies and we dug up graves! Al
Jourgensen from Ministry, told me you should never
touch someone else's grave, but it's just bones Al!"
"It's just body parts and decay. I've gotten letters
from people who've suggested that different things I
may do or say may have some sort of metaphysical power
over the future. I always toss them out and nothing
ever comes out of it-or the fact that I dug somebody's
false teeth out a grave in New Orleans."'

Anyway, lets hold off jumping all over someone, just
for not knowing the type of sence of humor that Chris
Cornell has. Or because of what the British press may
print in their magazines!

Okay, so now.. I also will be the one to ask the big
question. (because I know that alot of people are
wondering the same as I ) why you have not shared your
'Lunch with Chris Cornell' experience with all of us
here on the Somms list?

Vikki, I know that it is *your* right to choose or NOT
to choose to post to the list. But please understand
that many of us would just love to hear all about it!
I haven't taken a poll or anything but I would guess
to say that the majority of us list members have not
had the distinct pleasure of meeting Mr.Cornell. So
reading your post would be a treat us! Another
argument for choosing to post would be because you
have such a wonderful abilty to tell a story that
makes some of us readers, feel like we were right
there with you! So I am asking as nice as I
can..."Would you please give us the honor's Vikki???"

Christi~

I am also laughing at your comment to Johnny
Utah...due to the fact that it is SOO very similar to
the full quote on the front cover of the mag:

"WE DIG UP GRAVES!"
"Have Chris Cornell and Soundgarden gone insane!?

Well, I guess they have! LOL!!!

Hi all, I have this cd book thing on Superunknown where the guys
go on about all the songs. Chris says 4th of July was about when
he dropped acid and went down to the indian reservation. He'd be
walking along and swear there were 2 people following him, he'd
turn around and they wouldn't be there anymore. He'd keep walking
and hear them talking behind him again. He's going -fuck, I'm hearing=20
voices again!! Has anyone seen this book? It's always so hard to tell if =

they're just making stuff up sometimes.

It also says Mailman is to be taken literally, it's about a postal =
worker
who goes, you guessed it, postal.

later taters
