Despite what the Born to Choose cover says, Ben plays it and wrote the
music. (Whoever wrote the liner notes apparently went off of an old
band membership list and neglected to get their facts straight). Chris
wrote the lyrics (based on a comment Ben made to Kim, calling Kim "a
real HIV baby" because he wouldn't share a drink out of the same glass
as someone else). The main riff is one that Ben had been kicking around
for years before joining SG and was something he launched into during
their first rehearsal together. I'm not sure why you think it doesn't
sound like Ben. It always sounded like Ben to me. It sure doesn't
sound like Hiro.

I won't flame your ass Rachel. On the contrary, I might get mine flamed for
this: I think there are too many incomprehensible abbreviations used every now
and then on this list. I do get what BHS, TotD, BTW etc stand for, but there
are quite a few other abbreviations that keep me awake at nights. The fact that
I'm not a native speaker may explain why I don't get it sometimes, but pretty
often I think the abbreviations used are typical to this list (i.e. Soundgarden
related) Of course I'm not saying that I'm not a SG fan, but if you haven't got
an abbreviation explained to you in the first place, not even a smartass like
me can figure out the meaning. (And no, of course I can't come up with very
many good examples but some would be 'IMing', 'IWIWSS' amd 'j/k'.)

Anyhows, I know I'm not the only non-native speaker in here, so please try to
spend those extra 2 seconds it takes to write the entire word. That would make
me not only a more versed person, but I'll also be able to sleep at nights ;)

P.S Perhaps you guys can send your mails through a Swedish server and they'll
come out in Swedish over here? heh.. :P

Before I explain the anagrams, I would just like to say congratulations for
finally getting onto the internet. I know it must have been tough, but hey,
it seems you're finally ready to surf the information superhighway..

Soundgarden released Superunknown with a surprise for international
listeners. Yes, I'm talking about SHE LIKES SURPRISES

> > Rachel* (IWIWSS)
> > (giver of Matt's new title :)

Rachel points out at the end of every letter that "I wish I was Susan
Silver", and I mean, who doesn't wish they were Susan Silver? :) Who's with
me?

>many good examples but some would be 'IMing', 'IWIWSS' amd 'j/k'.)

IMing = Instant Messaging.

J/K = Just Kidding.

There's a post that's probably on the archives of some dude talking about
all these obvious anagrams, and adding a few more silly ones...that's my
nomination for the top post for SOMMS..

Outta here.
Dave

so while it seems that we can't change him, his outward appearance has
gone more than a little dave navarro.

I read through the bio a couple of times and came up with a few things -

that chris sounds pleased to have soundgarden in his rearview mirror;

that yes, the split was not violent and that they all still get along;

that chris or the bio writer or both wanted to make certain that we
understand that this solo career will be "long" (sixth paragraph, first
line), which is perhaps an attempt to knock those reformation rumors on
the head;

and that his apprehension over the new record and his new "direction" is
obviously mirrored by our own.

as fans of chris and soundgarden we all have concerns about _euphoria
morning_. ultimately I think we will all have to leave our notions of what
chris cornell sounds like at the door. this record will not sound like
soundgarden. it will most likely have a soundgarden thread throughout, but
in the end _euphoria morning_ will be chris' own record, and from what I
read it will have very little in common with what we know of chris'
previous work.

and maybe that is a good thing.

I have to say that I am glad soundgarden split up. it took a long time to
realise this, but it's true (acceptance is surely the seed of growth).
this is an exciting time for chris and an exciting time for us as fans.
personally, I think it is better that these musicians are excited about
and enlivened by their music, rather than simply searching for another way
to repeat what they have already said.

of course, there is the possibility that _euphoria morning_ is going to be
less than what we hope for. unexpectedly, I am reassured by matt's latest
work, _brotherhood of electric_.

_brotherhood..._ is an absolute killer. it totally kicks my ass every time
I play it. but more importantly it indicates that matt still has a very
strong love for music and still has a lot to say artistically. his spirit
is strong and thus his music is strong.

and so I have great confidence in this new chris cornell record. it is
time for him to stretch and it is time for us to expand our appreciation
of him and his work. I look forward to _euphoria morning_ and applauding
it's success.

okies, thanx Dave and Arden for straightening (some) things out for me. And a
special thank you goes to Dave for saying congratulations to me. The thing is
I've been on the Net for a couple of years now, and I've never seen so many
abbreviations anywhere (ICQ, IRC etc) as I have in here. (That's my reason for
my last post. So...I just have to say that I'm not a newbie, coz for some
reason this seems to be rather important to point out considering the flaming
that's been going on lately)

Anyway, I'm off to a _good_ nights sleep...and tonite I'll be able to sleep
tight for all of you. ;) But before I'm off: What's the opinion of Cornells
moustache? (BM era) I sort of think of German Heavy Metal fans when I see a guy
with a moustache. (No offence Germans!) Perhaps he wore that moustache as a
joke? I mean...is there anyone who really think it looks good? (I've been
thinking of growing one myself for one reason only - the fun of it.) Well
well...I better be off.

chris looks so good with facial hair, i'm jealous.

That may be true for some... but I think that the majority of us old timers
still remain on the list.. but now are just silent bystanders. Alot of us
don't have the time to keep up with the list and don't have much to say.
There are a few exceptions to that and it's good to see names that I

I can't say I agree with you on that one, Justin.

I'd say most people on this list would disagree with Justin.

I don't know. I mean, we are getting more music from the band members
(wellwater, chris, possible b-sides, ben's bass duty) then if they were
still together. And if SG was still together, they would still continue to
bicker at each other, and there's a chance that could lead to bad music. I'd
rather have SG broken up, with my SG albums filled chockfull with great
music, then SG still together, making crappy music.

Dave

I agree with Justin to a point. I'm glad they broke
up in that it allows the guys a greater chance to do
other creative things away from Soundgarden for a
while and it's good that they stopped it BEFORE things
started going stale. Quit while your ahead they say.
BUT, I'd still like to see them get back together in a
couple of years after the break. Chances are they'd
be better than ever. I'm not especially confident of
that happening though.

Jay.
