Saw the flick..it was damn funny...it was Ulrich, end of discussion....

Does anyone besides me think that this subject's headline is one of the more
bizarre in awhile? actually when taken out of context it sounds like an
article about Cornell in a Metal Edge music magazine or something...

I wouldn't think the band would go for it if they were asked. But I'd
imagine Howard being a fan (I know he like(d) Pearl Jam).

Yes, SG have been on the Road Rash soundtrack for a while, I think Road =
Rash 2 or 3 has Kickstand as the actual main theme...it's pretty cool, I =
remember in '96 I had the demo with Kickstand on it.=20

    You're right Cat.
Howard was a fan of the boys (or at least a quasi-fan). Two years ago in
April i was in a McDonalds breakfast drive thru the morning i learned of
Soundgarden's breakup. I just turned the station to Stern to hear him saying
that Soundgarden had split apart amicably and i just froze.
Stern and his gang of goofballs went on to chat about how good the band
really was and how they had the most talent of the Seattle Bands, comparing
them to the still striving (but i think hey may have used a term similar to
floundering) Pearl Jam. Stern talked about how Chris had one of the best
voices in rock and then he and Robin started making fun of Kim's looks,
calling him crazy-looking or something. Stern had Gary play a variety of
cuts off their latest album and they played parts of Rhinosaur, Burden in My
Hand, and Pretty Noose ..which Howard unfortunately started singing along
to, misquoting the lyrics and then realizing he was singing A Day in the
Life by the Beatles..."I read the news today.." instead of "I caught the
moon today.."...a somewhat funny bright spot on a day of bad news...

No, it was definitely Skeet Ulrich, because he looks a little like Johnny
Depp and Chris, whereas Johnny Depp looks nothing like Chris. If you look
for pictures of Skeet Ulrich on lycos or hotbot or something, you'll see it
was him.

This is to Andrew, and anyone interested. Man, I agree with you, let's
make the list more interesting and bring in other bands and other info,
why not ask eachother how our fucking day went? Any tossers who have the
arrogant tone [assume the voice of a 16-year-old brat] 'And this has to do
with Soundgarden what?', can leave and tell their parents they hate them
or whatever. When they eventually emerge from their Soundgarden world and
realise that Chris Cornell isn't going to land on their doorstep for tea
randomly one night, they may also realise that there is a whole world out
there....with other people in it.

Subject: totd, sg, pj etc

i was thinking about all the links between these bands the other day, and i
was thinking if pearl jam got together because everyone was in temple of the
dog, and then temple of the dog was only really formed because of young
Chris Cornell, then maybe you could say that Chris has a lot to do with the
formation of PJ.
so i'm thinking how would chris have felt about the success that pj had, you
know, becoming even more famous and popular than soundgarden were (admit it!
it's true), even though sg had been around for years.

would he be pissed, "dammit, i made this band, and now everyone likes them
more than they like my band" even though he'd probably be pleased for them,
getting it together after Andy's death.

anyhoo, these two bands were good friends, right, and i vaguely remember
hearing something sometime about the pj guys complimenting sg on BMF when it
was released, so what would these guys have said to each other around 1996
when both bands released, you know, *less popular* albums. you know, no code
and down on the upside. which were generally less liked than the previous
albums.
especially no code! what a stinker! hehe j/k.
because it would be pretty funny if chris went up to eddie and said, "you
know, hardly anyone brought your last album" and then eddie would say "well
look at yours, you only sold 200,000"
and even though that would never happen, what do different band people say
to each other about the music.

and also when chris cut his hair off, all the pj people who were all
long-brown-hair kinda guys, they would have thought something was surely
amiss!

Graham.

late? I always thought 2 years after the breakup, there would just be a
trickle..but apparantly its like 50 people in 2 weeks, and that would
explain some unnecessary posts (like that totd thread..geez..)

Dave

P.S. And oh yeah, for that dude who said something, Down On The Upside sold
2 Million copies, not 200k..

P.P.S. Chris Cornell's new album will not be released through SOMMS on MP3.
I'm pretty sure there's some A&M people lurking behind on SOMMS and would
jump at the person putting any song from the release out..if you want MP3's
of Soundgarden, there's plenty of losers in college dorms that have Black

Soundgarden's song Fopp is a cover of an old Ohio players song; so they
didn't make it up. If you listen to the lyrics, you can figure out what it
means pretty easily. "Fopp me right don't you Fopp me wrong. We'll be
Foppin' all night long. I'm too short, baby, but you're too tall; but when
we're Foppin' it don't mean a thing at all."
Hope that answers your question.

Hey SOMMster's,=20
Thanks Johnny for that input. I mean, let's face it, SG broke up, will =
most likely never get back together (maybe for a reunion or something, =
but not big time), and hey if we all like other Seattle bands eg. PJ, =
The tree's, aic, etc.. why not talk about them? This is insanity people! =
 Anyway..

>would he be pissed, "dammit, i made this band, and now everyone likes =
them more than they like my band"

Soundgarden and PJ always had a good relationship, they used to hangout =
together..hell, I've even got a picture of PJ where Mike and Stone are =
wearing SG shirts! (One is BMF shirt, the other just says 'Soundgarden', =
although I think I've lost the pic). I don't think popularity was ever a =
big thing for SG, or PJ for that matter (I mean, look how PJ crawled up =
and died after Ten? No video's no nothing!) I think both bands always =
knew that they were successful and that it wasn't to a level that they =
despised, or even hated when they were just small time pub bands.. so =
no, I'd doubt that Chris has any deep felt resentment. If he did I would =
lose a lot of respect for him, because out of that TOTD 'mould' came PJ, =
and if Chris resented TOTD I would be very surprised.=20

Anywho, we always seem to be talking about Ben, Chris and Matt (namely =
because they're alive and kicking!), but what about poor old Kim? =
Heheheh
Don't you think Kim's like one of those guys that if you met him in the =
streets he would scare the life outta you, but really he's like this big =
funny guy with a degree in Philosophy!
