Subject: The perfect song orders

The song orders in Superunknown and DotU are pretty messed up. On
Superunknown you got a song like 'Spoonman' following after 'Black Hole
Sun', and 'Half' (a song which I think never fit in with the whole album)
following '4th of July'. Then on DotU, you get a bleak-yet-uplifting 'Zero
Chance' followed by a happy 'Dusty', and the punky 'Never Named' after
'Burden in My Hand'. Is there anybody else out there a little annoyed by the
way the songs are ordered in any of the other albums?

I was wondering if anybody listens to the tracks on Badmotorfinger,
Ultramega, or any other album in a different track order....and if they
would like to share their track listing :). I haven't listened to a SG album
in awhile, I was thinking that maybe it might be a different experience to
listen to, say, Superunknown through someone else's track order, and if that
could affect the perception someone had on the album as a whole....

Well they have to go in some order or other. I think
the track orders are pretty good on both those albums.
And I particlularly think that Half is a good link
between 4th of July and Like Suicide, lest we get an
intensity overload.

Well on UltramegaOK I usually only listen to side one
and Incessant Mage. Don't have a lot of time for the
rest of the album.

someone posted it a while ago (unless i'm finally losing it). the original
source was chris' managment in some interview. i had to yell it because every
doof on this list (and i know a few of them mean no harm) keeps asking "..oh!
when is chris coming to newfoundland (no offense newfies)?" we don't know
yet! argh! i'm sure we'll hear about it when it get closer to release time.
in the mean time, can we talk about something other than his
non-existent-at-this-point tour schedule? pretty please? the alternate track
listing inqueries sound interesting.

thanks

My only complaint is with DOTU. It seems kinda like"First half, we'll do all
the singles and normal Soundgarden stuff," then "Okay, now second half we do
our experimental stuff," as if they had to prove themselves with the first
half of the album. I would have loved if they had mixed it up a bit, so it
wasn't so heterogenous.

I think that you all can discuss what track order DOTU, SU and heck, even
BMF should really have, but I think that Soundgarden ended their musical
career on the right note with Boot Camp being the last song on DOTU...

I agree. Every time I hear that song, I say to myself "what an ending!" And
it always makes me want to get the hell out of this state (Utah) since I've
been here for so long -- not that it's necessarily bad here, just that I get
the feeling that "there must be something else, there must be something
good, far away, far away from here."

Just a note from the Fluttergirl ---

SOMMSters,

Hey, I got a boot I've never heard of the other day. It's called
"Digging the Garden of Sound". It's a 16 track collection of rarities
that is a CD-R. The one I got was a blue CD, and an obvious slip of
printed out computer paper for the inlay. I paid 20 bucks for it at a
place you were supposed to be 18 to get into, but I snuck in anyways.
It's pretty shabby quality, but very understandable. I suggest anybody
to get it who doesnt have many b-sides. Track listing is:

1. Karoke
2. Bleed Together
3. Kyle Petty, Son of Richard
4. She Likes Surprises
5. Cop Killer
6. Thank You (For Letting Me Be Myself Again)
7. Everybody's Got Something To Hide Except Me and My Monkey
8. Cold Bitch
9. Nowhere But You
10. Fluttergirl
11. Hey Baby
12. Sub Pop Rock City
13. Stray Cat Blues
14. Into The Void
15. I Can't Give You Anything
16. Homicidal Suicidal (studio version)

It is released under the Tendolar label, no year or address given. I can
tell it's after 1997, since Bleed Together is on there.

temple has no SG sounds in them..maybe it's just me but I think they have

14, so the first Soundgarden song I heard was Black Hole Sun. It soon =
annoyed me; however, with it's over-exposure. So the first Soundgarden =
song I really loved was My Wave. When I got more into Soundgarden, I =
bought all their Albums previous to Superunknown and later Down the =
Upside. My favorite song of theirs is now Rhinosaur.

I agree with you about Temple Of The Dog. That album is absolutely =
amazing. It's kind of the style that I expect from Euphoria Morning, =
based on Chris's description. Later everybody.

I know this may seem like I came into the fray later, but BIMH did it =
for me. Although I had been listening to SG since Loud Love (When I was =
like 8 y/old I used to wake up VERY early to watch Rage and they always =
played the early unknown stff, SG, they played heaps of metallica and =

on an album? Does anyone else think it's an awesome song? Even though =
it's the Spoonman single B-Side (I think), don't you think it has a BMF =

The first SG song I heard was Black Hole Sun, because I didn't get into them
until I bought A-Sides when it came out (I got it because I liked BHS and
BIMH, which ended up becoming my 2 least favorite SG songs because of
overexposure) , but the first I really liked was JCP. About Temple of the
Dog, I didn't buy it until like 2 months ago, because every time I went to
buy it, something else would catch my eye, like an import or single I didn't
have. Anyway, I do enjoy it a lot, but it's a little slow or something. I
can't quite explain why I don't like it as much as regular Soundgarden.
Maybe I just feel loyalty to Soundgarden as a whole, instead of just Chrisand
Matt with Pearl Jam.

I was pretty late getting into SG as well. BHS was my fav as well (I still
like it heaps even though they beat it to death on the radio). My first
album was A-Sides (I know I suck, I don't need telling) but it sparked my
intrest again and I just had to get the other albums.

I'm still catching up on the albums - only Ultramega to go, but thats on
order and should be here in a few days. I got TOTD the other day and it
blew my mind. I studied Hunger Strike in school a few years ago and it
still gets to me. I can totally hear Chris' influence in the songs - they
definatly have that SG sound to them. It seems to have rubbed off a bit on
Stone and Mike - they sound just like Kim in some places.

Mother Love Bone was supposed to be in the same style as SG and TOTD but I
don't see it. Any thoughts?

Adrian.

I think my first song was probably beyong the wheel... not that its that
incredible a song, as amazing as it is... Its just that for a while I had SU
and DOTU and I listened to them once in a while but then one day I was in my
local used CD store and I saw UMOK for $5.. so I said "Soundgarden? They are
pretty cool" and I bought it... I guess the whole CD and the 665 667 thing
made me realize how supercool Soundgarden is and how wide spread their music
can be... so thats when I joined this list and started really buying up
stuff... SOMMS came first then LTL and now Im getting Screaming Life... Life
is good = )
Uhmm.. BTW... Since Im in New YOrk and Chris is gonna do a concert here...
and we are ALL going... how's about a SOMMS pre-show and after-show parties
at a restaurant or something? (why have just one party when you can have 3?)

Subject: First Song and going through the temple

The first Soundgarden song that I heard was Rusty Cage. I saw the video on
MTV and thought they were scary, and I turned the channel. But I kept
turning it back because I guess I thought they were cool too.
But really what caught me is Spoonman, which I aquired a taste for after I
had bought Temple of the Dog. I was a really big Pearl Jam fan, so I bought
TOTD -- my suprise to find that I would end up liking SG more after. I had
also bought the SINGLES soundtrack because of Pearl Jam -- loved seasons,
but didn't particularly like Birth Ritual (a song that has grown on me
since).

Just a note from the Fluttergirl ---

"I woke the same as any other day; You know I should have stayed in
bed."

Lead singer and "bassitarist" of the Boston band Morphine died of a heart
attack onstage yesterday at a festival outside Rome. He apparently
collapsed mid-song and efforts to revive him failed. He was 47.

Do you feel loyalty to the music they write or music they play? Because =
Chris wrote most of the songs on TOTD. And a fine job he did at that.
