It's a cover of an 80's song, but I can't remember who did it originally
or what the name of it is. I want to say Billy Bragg, but I'm not
sure. It has been bugging me ever since I heard this bootleg the first
time, because I used to hear this song on college radio a lot and I just
can't get the old memory cells in order.

It's a cover...a Syd Barrett track called "Dark Globe" from the album "The
Madcap Laughs". Here's the lyrics straight from pinkfloyd.org:

"DARK GLOBE

Oh where are you now
pussy willow that smiled on this leaf?
When I was alone you promised the stone from your heart
my head kissed the ground
I was half the way down, treading the sand
please, please, lift a hand
I'm only a person whose armbands beat
on his hands, hang tall
won't you miss me?
Wouldn't you miss me at all?

The poppy birds way
swing twigs coffee brands around
brandish her wand with a feathery tongue
my head kissed the ground
I was half the way down, treading the sand
please, please, please lift the hand
I'm only a person with Eskimo chain
I tattooed my brain all the way...
Won't you miss me?
Wouldn't you miss me at all?"

I guess I missed the boat on that one. I always thought I awake
was just about normal day to day life. You wake up , go to work deal with
being unhappy because life sucks for whatever reason. Small talk, have a
good day. However, you feel obligated to say yeah I had a wonderful day
honey, and how was your day. thought it was just about that boring fake
front that everyone puts up everyday when obviously a great number of
people are unsaatidsfied with there daily routine. I am not explaining
myself very well here so I will stop wasting everyone's time and get back
to work. Dont worry, I will have a good day.
Oh, I always though Soundgarden had a really dark feel on LTL that they
never really explored further. Granted, SG is a doom and gloom band on
most of the albums. It just seems like they were even darker on LTL. If
songs like get on the snake were not on that album to balance it out, that
album would have been super depressing.
