I think we're all overanalyzing this change of sound issue(including
myself). Maybe all these great bands who drifted away from their original
sound just got bored and wanted to try something new.

Greetings Fellow Sommsters...

Well...I've held on to my silence long enough. I've been on the list
for quite a while now and have yet to contribute to this worthy
conversation concerning the intended topic (the writers and performers
of the music that keeps my blood running smoothly and HOT!)
Soundgarden.(and/or it's ever-so-easy-on-the-eye Chris Cornell.) Rather,
I've been biding my time as a 'silent observer' taking in and assessing
the points and counterpoints of all my brethren of the soul.
First and foremost, I would just like to say "thankyou" to you all.
I've enjoyed immensely the comments, personal views and occasional
ramblings as posted here on the list. :) ( I will fall under the latter
catagory.. as you have, by now I'm sure, figured out) :)
In reponse to the latest post of Mindriot, I have to say that I agree
wholeheartedly. As a musician I can certainly see a progression in my
own music. Geez...If I was still writing like I did in my earlier 'punk'
days I'd be institutionalized by now! Much fun as it was to write lovely
little ditties about oral sex (one of my fav topics of the time) like
the entitled , "While You're Down There" if I had kept writing the same
type of material to this day, I'd have dug a rut worthy of accomodating
my own casket! And believe me...my view on the topic of oral sex hasn't
changed! :) One generally progresses as one matures irregardless of
whether the person is a musician or not. As a musician if you are lucky
enough to write a song the 'stands the test of time' and prevails
regardless of social changes and public popularity, etc that's great.
But generally speaking that doesn't always happen.
If a musician or band is at 'creative standstill' even fans hungry
enough for carbon copies of their favourite material will eventually
become bored and apathetic towards it.
Even when I'm not particularly crazy about the creative turns that
some bands make as they 'progress' I would still rather see and
experience change. Being creative, musically, is and will always be
about testing boundries, pushing the envelope, experimenting and taking
yourself and your listeners to another realm. God forbid we should
stiffle that creativeness and be bound to the repeated reworkings of all
of our favourite songs.
I am really looking forward to what Chris has to offer on his solo
release. I love the man's voice out in front where I can hear IT and the
unique subtleties he has to offer. Yeah...it'll be different from
SG.....that's the beauty. I ask myself every day, "What ELSE does this
gorgeous, creative and musically/vocally gifted man have to share with
us?" I can't wait.
Thanks to you all. And thanks for listening. My sincerest apologies
for my virtual reclusivity and any possible typos that you may encounter
here.

>Money can't buy you happiness,<

yes it can, would you be happy with no house to live in, no money to buy
food, no money to buy Soundgarden cd's, no money to survive on? I sure hell
wouldn't be. It's not ABSOLUTELY necessary, but in this crazy world of ours,
I'm afraid you need some sort of wealth to be happy.

Peace

I haven't had a Soundgarden moment in a long time BUTT today was one. I
had to drive right to the heart of the financial district of downtown
Chicago at lunchtime. Now you can imagine the congestion , with the all
the stockbrokers("I'm king of the world") running across streets in front
of cars, wild Indian and Pakistani taxi drivers who are pissed at each
other over Kashmir dueling cabs and the el track stanchions to dodge. I
get where I need to go...drop my precious cargo("have fun Nat") and head
out so I can go to work. I get hopelessly jammed in grid lock traffic.
Luckily I had put my Badmotorfinger tape back in my car recently so I
slipped it in. As I am cussing out cars and dumb ass drivers "searching
with my good eye closed" is playing. I finally get to a point when traffic
breaks up right when Chris is singing, "and I'm on my way" I punched it
and went sailing down Lake Shore Drive with Soundgarden blasting. It felt
so good! The trip to work was great with the tremendous music filling my
car. Missing them so much!
I listened to the Reading boot yesterday(all these Christi posts) and is
that not one of the most annoying boots due to the talking??? What is up
with those Brits??? Talking so much and than when they do sing...it's
lousey too!<dodging those mean stares from Deb> toni
