Simple explanation. Susan made Chris do it.

>From the Modern Drummer interview with Matt:

"We didn't come into the studio as a cohesive unit, with all four cylinders
burning. There were moments during that session where I felt, "Yeah, we're
back. We know how to do this again." But we had some ideas we didn't fully
pursue. There was a song, "Christy," that didn't make it on the record, but
I thought it was one of the best things we'd ever done. I still felt we had
some really good music on that record, but it seemed a shame that we
couldn't make it better."

Does anybody else get a strong hunch that this song is a shoe-in for the
b-sides album? Matt mentions this song a lot.....

This is for anyone who has heard the song (is there?): What's so special
about it?

I haven't listened to it in a while, so I can't remember most of it. I =
just remember it's *really good* (one of my favs), slow, and heavy. It =
can sound a little like Mailman at times, but it's better.(It's on the =
Reading Festival bootleg I think, but I'm not sure)

lyrics from song "can't change me" from chris cornell album solo

Can't Change Me

She can do anything at all
     Have anything she pleases
Power to change what she thinks is wrong
What could she want with me, me

     Wait just one minute here
I can see that she4s trying to read me

     Suddenly I know
She4s going to change the world
She4s going to change the world
She4s going to change the world
     But she can4t change me
     No, she can4t change me

She has the daylight at her command
She gives the night its dreams
She can uncover your darkest fear
Make you forget you feel it

     Wait just one minute more
I can see that she4s trying to free me

     Suddenly I know
She4s going to change the world
She4s going to change the world
She4s going to change the world
     But she can4t change me
     No, she can4t change me

     Suddenly I can see
     Everything that4s wrong
     We need it
What can I do, I4m the only thing I really have ... at all

     Wait just one minute here
I can see that she4s trying to need me

     Suddenly I know
She4s going to change the world
She4s going to change the world
She4s going to change the world
     But she can4t change me
     No, she can4t change me

correct. it's on the reading fest boot. it is the most intense thing i have
ever heard them do. it sounds kind of like chris took the "girl/boy is gonna
leave me" concept and made the 'boyfriend/girlfriend 1st person' character a
total psycho. listen to the final verse, chris screaming violently "you're
gonna die without me" repeatedly. musically, it's more in the vein of i
awake. i can see why matt loves this song. i heard that the only thing
keeping them from releasing it (aside from the break up), was that it needed
vocals. hopefully, a studio version will be released. SOON!

i saw the funniest thing today....i was searching through classic film sites
and i found these old messages ( circa '98) on a Gone With the Wind bulletin
board (www.scarlet.com/) where these women were discussing how chris
resembles clark gable in his prime!! and one gal was beyond clueless...

if anybody really has this personal holy grail (11/12/96 @ the palace of
auburn hills, MI, video), please give me the chance to gain a copy. since
this gaston fella, who has since disappeared from the list, has decided not
to heed my pleas, i'm going to you established sommsters (or newbies for that
matter). i have a few boots and one video (including motorvision, some live
appearances and videos) that i may be able to have dubbed if so desired.

PLEASE!!! i don't want to go into the sob story right now, but if you have
any leads on where i can get it (prefferably by trade, but if i must i can
send check or my own blank tape), HELP A BROTHER OUT.

thanks

Subject: Room 1000 Years Wide singles

Hey, I just won an auction on EBay for Room 1000 Year Wide Single on
purple swirl vinyl awhile back. I know purple vinyl is rare (1500
pressed, right?) so the guy asked me if I wanted it the "all-black
cover" or the one with "grey-lettering cover". So what do I say? I mean,
I wanna get the most for my money (32 bucks total) and I dont know which
one is rarer and worth more. So little help? Thanks.

Oh, Christi
Tell you what I want to hear
Yeah, Christi
Tell me what I want to hear

You can't see without me
You'll live and leave without me
You can't run without me
You'll only leave without me

Yeah, Christi
Tell me what I want to hear
And Christi
Show me what I want to see
Christi
Show me what I want to see

You'll only cry without me
You'll never try without me
You can't walk without me
You'll never fly without me
You can't eat without me
You'll only breathe without me
Yeah, and Christi
Tell me what I want to hear
Christi
Tell me what I want to hear

You'll never cry without me
You'll never fly without me
You'll never walk without me
You'll never choke without me
You can't see without me
You can't eat without me
You'll only cry without me
You're gonna die without me (x5)

those of you looking to hear christi, there is a sound clip or two on Seth's
page. they're not great quality but the boots i've heard/gotten of the
reading show aren't that great either. it is a really heavy song, like
everyone is saying. really mental sounding. ya know? exactly like, oh who was
it im sorry i cant remember, chris does seem to take the psychopathic stalker
obsessive ex boyfriend outlook. very cool.

i don't believe they ever recorded a full version in the studio, did they? i
could be wrong...

does that? And if so.... where? Just wondering! toni
