Maybe some of us haven't recalled talking about these subjects before.

Obviously, alot of people gave their Top 20 lists. Whatever makes
conversation will keep the list alive.

Yes, you did complain about it. But it's a phase. Did you say you
haven't listened to Soundgarden in months? I say, go listen to the
albums again, find out again why you love this band so much. Maybe
these posts will be intresting to you.

You just contradicted yourself there. Posting "can we end this
thread?" is not keeping silent.

And I hardly think that anybody's ideas from the threads that you
dislike so much are a form of stupidity. Ain't no stupid people on
this list.

I'll stop now, so this doesn't get brutal...

Hey,

my friend got this CD-ROM game called Zork Nemesis the other day and he
told me that at some point the main character looks at his "To-do" list
and one of the items is "buy new Sound Dungeon album when I get home".

I suppose it's a Soundgarden reference.

****

Also, I caught a good portion of Great Expectations on HBO the other day.
Mediocre movie, awful adaptation (do those people even *read* the
books?). But the scene in which "Sunshower" was played was actually
pretty cool; I expected a pensive/depression sequence, but it was a
romance/love scene.

****

Finally, my Soundgarden listening suggestion of the week (not to be a
regular feature): Find some gothic looking building (churches and college
campuses are good for this). Take your portable CD player, headphones and
UltraMegaOK CD to said building around dusk. Play "Beyond The Wheel" and
stare at the building for the entire song. Cool.

Other specific soundgarden listening suggestions welcome.

I hardly think so. Most been a sort of grasping at straws, imo, trying
to make up something to talk about just for the sake of talking. In past
times (and no, I'm not trying to sound like some sentimental
holier-than-thou old fart) the top 20 thing would have been shot down
before it got ten feet off the runway. The misheard lyrics thing is
amusing, but that's all, and has been done numerous times before. I
know it's tough to get through the times when there's not much real
news, and none of us want to let go of the band that was, or else we
wouldn't still be subbed, but it seems like when there is news it gets
ignored and the same questions that have been answered get asked again
repeatedly, or someone takes one piece and goes off on a tangent.

Well, I don't, and it's pretty silly to use something horrific to
justify your actions as 'not as bad'. Some lists don't have rules.
This one does. They used to get enforced. I belong to several other
lists and they aren't rampant with flame wars and stupidity. Try the
Trowerchord list on for size.

Here is a listening suggestion for those who live near the coast,
especially where it's rocky: go on a full moon when the tide is high
and the wind is blowing and listen to Soundgarden by the ocean at night.
Specific suggestions: San Francisco: The Cliff House Cave.
Humboldt County North: College Cove/Elk Head near the blowhole.
Humboldt County South: Shelter Cove.
Seattle: The soundgarden! (Okay, It's not a coastline but it's near
water.)
Mendocino County: Little River

I live in Boston, where there are tons of old, gothic looking churches.
In fact, there's one across the street from where I work. Whenever I go
outside for some fresh air, I look up at the church's steeple, framed by a
dark, purple sky, and think of: "I'm on the wire, over and higher/Over the
pretense, over the spire/On and connected, I'm overfloating now/I'm
overfloating alone."

To any Colorado SOMMSters, especially in the Littleton area, My heart, My
wishes, and my prayers go out to you. Hang in there. My heart and mind are
with you. I hope all is well soon and your lives can recover. Love your
families. Hug your kids. Tell someone you love them, because the sad truth
is, you just never fucking know what is going to happen to you when you walk
out the door.

I picked up my 18 month old daughter last night and just held her.

It is a fucked-up world we are living in nowadays. I just hope something can
be done to stem the negative tide and we can get to a point where community
means safety and peace again.

To those of you who lost friends or family or know someone who did, or are
just as badly shaken as I am: "Love heals all wounds with time........now
there's just one thing left to be said, Say Hello to Heaven." -Chris Cornell,
Say Hello to Heaven

Hang in there. Things will get better. They have too........don't they?

Peace,

Ok, I haven't checked my mail in three days, and there were 187
messages. Sheesh..

Self-Censorship: Ed Vedder has said that he doesn't think that the
lyrics really matter all that much, in how they are printed. What
really matters is what the song means to YOU, the fan. Interpret them
anyway you want. I wholeheartedly agree. Self-censorship is also a
good way to give the advisory boards a big 'fuck you'. They didn't
catch it in the lyrics because they didn't bother to actually listen
to the music. Ha. Gotcha. ;)

Misinterpreted lyrics: "I want to be gaaaayy, gaaaaay,
gaaaaaayyyy..." as opposed to the actual "I want to be kiiiiing" from
Power Trip. Whoops! ;) (Have you noticed that a lot of these
misinterpreted lyrics have to do with homosexuality? I wonder if we
all have subconscious ideas about the Chrismeister... j/k for those
of you who don't have a sense of humor. =D)

Threads: Hey, at least we're talking about something that actually
has something to do with Soundgarden. I'm on another list as well,
and sometimes it can take some work to get these people to actually
talk about something other than their first kiss.

Music on the Tube: My buddy Ard ;) has Much Music at her house. I am
currently cable deprived, all I have is my LTL vid and my Single
Video Theory. Much Music beats 'em all, hands down.

Colorado: Amen.

Fertilizers: I agree it's shitting and I don't think it's juvenile.
It makes sense if you put it in context with the rest of the song.
You're right, a bunch of dogs shitting isn't a pretty picture. But
who said Outshined is a pretty song? Really now...

Just my 2 bits. =)

Hi guys..

it's been ages since i posted, but i've been reading it all and
unlike some others I am pretty happy about how SOMMS is now.. i think
the conversations we've been having are great and i'm glad it's not
deathly quiet.. Just a comment about it, some people might seem to do
a post to death because they are on the digest or don't check their
mail every day *gasp* and want to say something. Like it may be days
or hours after the majority of you have had a go at it, but aren't
the opinions as worthy? i mean worrying about what the delay of each
email is and if anyone's already said it just seems petty.. like is
there a deadline on posts or something? But for the record i'm
changing to non digest.. it's SET SOMMS NODIGEST right!? Kathleen..

Anyway i was just thinking about these mixed up lyrics.. the funniest
thing to do is watch bimbos in nightclubs dance to music (like
Soundgarden) they think is 'cool' but they know nothing about (ie.
the lyrics or the beat itself) and sing or mime the wrong words
drunkenly.. It's even better when they think they're hearing
something to do with "you" or "me" and they make a big show of
pointing at each other, even though it's NOTHING like that.. ehheh

I was going to put up a list of my top 20 bands but it's hard to
choose and i also don't think i would be putting SG and all SG
related albums in the top 10 just to look like a hardcore fan.. but
one of the albums i was going to put is Regurgitator - Unit (a
Brisbane band you probably don't know, but i wish you did) which the
above example of stupidity comes from.. "What's it to YOUUU" (imagine
dancing bimbos) instead of "what's at the end.."
Well i think it's funny anyway.. eheh you might notice i have
something against bimbos.. *shrug*

I don't think it's immature or gross to think you heard "shitting"
instead of shedding because it's kind of obvious to me. The
similarities in the words (if you slap on an american accent) are
really close..

>As a gardener in the literal sense I have read repeatedly
>that composting hair or using it as mulch is very beneficial to plant
>growth, as it is rich in proteins and nitrogen.

I guess you have a point.. i didn't know Chris had a green thumb. And
dog hair would make sense because who pulls out human hair or cleans
their brush and pops it in the compost bin!? ugh.. eheh Dogs are
forever shedding all over the place, it might as well go to a good
cause. Chris has dogs, doesn't he..

that's enough from me

I used to think for a long while that the line in
'Somewhere' was "and lots of love", when in actual
fact it's "in laughs of love". That's an awesome line
don't you think? In fact all of the lyrics on
'Somewhere' are great.

"Somewhere in the dreams, of those who should, Echo
all the worlds, in laughs of love."

It makes you wish that Ben had written more. So to
lead into a new thread: What are everyones's favorite
Soundgarden lyrics? Either a whole song or just a few
lines.

    Jay.

p.s. Sorry if this sounds like an attempt to start a
thread just for the sake of it. But so what?

I think my favorite lyrics come from Seasons, I dunno, they just kinda
stick in my head every time I listen to the song.

"If I should be short on words
And long on things to say
Could you come into my world
And take me worlds away"

I dunno, I've always thought of the lyrics of that song to just paint a
picture in your head, and that's the kind of effect I like in lyrics.

I think Zero Chance has really good lyrics.. I remember niki freer
talking about this in her SOMMS bio (which has since been changed)..
Before i read that, i hadn't taken the time to *really* listen to
this song. It is sad in the way it reminds me of loss of a friend,
lost chances, or depression.. but it's somewhat hopeful because it
sounds like a positive message to keep trying and "you'll find your
way back home". I usually like lyrics if i feel i click with them..
like if i find something in them that relates to me personally or if
the individual words work really well together (like Drawing Flies..
it's incredible! I could listen to that over and over..). So there
are alot of songs I could have chosen, but Zero Chance is a
combination of those qualities..

"thinking of your highness, crying long upon the loss I've found, and
on the plus and minus, zero chance of ever turning this around. Why
doesn't anyone believe in loneliness, stand up and everyone will see
your holiness".

I don't want to get too indepth about the interpretive side of it,
but it sounds to me like thoughts of person A about person B to whom
they have alot of respect for and may have done wrong by.. and in
turn made Person B feel not as great or wonderful as Person A
believes they are. It's regretful..

Nice thread..

Hello guys,

My name is Mike and I am new. I have lived in Colorado all of my life
and Soundgarden is my favorite band. Sorry it took so long to finally
e-mail you, I have been a member for about a week. It is a tragedy
what happened in Littleton yesterday, my girlfriends cousin gos to
Columbine High School and they have been trying to get a hold of her
family. Anyone who tried to call into Colorado last night, it was
really impossible. There was alomost no way. I live about 2 hours
away from Denver and it is just a shocker. My prayers are out to all
of them and there families. I hate to talk about stuff besides
Soundgarden, but since Lance I think it was brought it up I thought I
would give my two cents. I don't want to burn any bridges with you
guys. Well you will hear from me more later.
