He certainly has changed his voice, mainly in that he uses his normal register
to hit the high stuff on most recent work. His voice is much more coarse and
worn than it was early on, but, for me, it adds to a rustic, seasoned quality,
and it is more emotive than it has ever been on DOTU. I know that there are a
lot of Ultramega junkies on SOMMS, but for me, Chris' later writing and singing
is much more mature and insightful. I hope this continues into his solo work.

Hey Sommies!
I haven't posted in a while, but I've recently experienced a rebirth
of Soundgarden fandom! Yay! I hadn't been listening to any music at
all (a sure sign that something is wrong with me). Then I dipped my
toes into Pearl Jam, and a couple weeks ago I gave my english teacher
my copy of Superunknown as a parting gift. It was then I realized how
much of a powerful gift Soundgarden can be to anyone. It was the
perfect gift from me, and it made me realize just how much they have
impacted me over the course of my adolescence. And lo and behold, I'm
listening to DOTU for the first time in probably 6 months. =) I
feel... cleansed! Ok, enough useless babble for one night.

You also have to remember that he's playing the guitar in these songs... I
don't know for someone like Chris, but to sing like that and still play
these totally awsome songs (something of which I've tried to do) is extremly
hard...

those who ever want to check their e-mail ever again, I don't

I doubt Chris has lost much vocal power since the days of Ultramega
OK. His solo album is based on it.

Ooooh, the day will come when we'll be comparing Chris's vocals on
his solo to the Soundgarden albums. UGHHGGH, WHY was the release date
pushed back??!?? Is it true the album is done already?

I'm about to get a job at the post office here....ergh....just wait
and see, if the album is pushed back even longer....

Ah, when will we be expecting *your* solo album? =)

And don't tell me it's released date will be pushed back 5 month
either...

If you want to hear Chris scream, go listen to the appropriate
albums. He can still do that perfectly well, but if he screamed
all the time, the music would never change! I have an interview
where he talks about listening to some of the older songs and
admits that "listening to all that screaming is kind of getting hit
over the head with a hammer". His words folks. Screaming was
where he was at then, as he evolves, the music evolves. It's just
that he choosed not to, and today when he needs to scream,
when he feels it fits the song, he screams! When he does it sends
chills up my spine, but I love to hear the lower end of his voice
even more. =3D)

I had a bit of a rebirth lately as well. I've only had a CD player for the
past five or six years, so all of my Soundgarden before _Superunknown_ is
on cassette. Needless to say, I don't play cassettes that much anymore, so
most of what I listen to is _A Sides_ and _Down on teh Upside_. Recently I
finally got around to buying copes if _Badmotorfinger_ and _Louder than
Love_ on CD, and they haven't left my player since. :)

You're right, that's the ohter thing I forgot to mention. The songs I
mentioned where Chris really Kicked ass live, he either doesn't play guitar
on (Outshined) or even I can play guitar and sing along to (Searching,
Slaves.) But PN and Spoonman are so fucking hard to sing and play to. For
instance, we've all compared the way he sings the line "pretty noose is
pretty hate" live, to the album cut. I think that the way he plays it live
is obvious accomodation for this difficulty. Just for being able to sing any
notes at the same time as playing that song earns him my respect.

what about his acompaniment on the chorus of overfloater? that's pretty high
up there. i think it's simply that he started using his range and voice
differently. that's what all the guys did. they played for the song instead
of letting their ego's take over and play as many notes or as fast or sing as
high as they possibly could. as they matured that just wasn't important to
them anymore.

 hey sommsters.

hi my name is niki and i watch VH1. ((hiiiii nikiiii))

ya know what, i've got zero problem with VH1. they are the *only* regular
cable music channel that actually plays music videos, even if they are mostly
the mid40s housewife stuff. they also have those wonderful Behind The Scenes
programs that they've done on everyone from depeche mode to the doors to tlc.
so really, there's nothing wrong with VH1 in my opinion.

you know MTV will never play any video that cornell comes out with unless
the general female consensus of the 11-16 population find him "cute."

You should come to Canada. We got Muchmusic, where 90% of the time its
videos. OK, mostly new ones, but 2 hours or more are spent on oldies.
MuchMoreMusic is like VH1, but they show vid's all the time. Mostly
Jewel and Adam Cohen, so I don't watch it.

I live in Boston, and we get MuchMusic here, and I have to agree that it
kicks ass. Not only do they play a lot of quality music (or at least what
I consider quality music), but they also expose some of us residents of
the United States to Canadian bands we may never have heard of. Also,
their shows, like 'Intimate and Interactive,' are great. Not only do they
interview the bands, but you get to see them play live as well.

When he does it sends
chills up my spine, but I love to hear the lower end of his voice
    even more. =3D)

There used to be a local channel here in Indy that carried MuchMusic
a couple of hours a day. They had a "Rockumentary"-type show on
Soundgarden a few years ago, before they broke up. It was pretty
cool.

Lets be honest though folks. A steady daily diet of cigarettes and Cape Cods
is bound to take it's toll after awhile.

Smoking and booze are not the greatest ingredients for s fit voice,
expecially a "high" one.

Don't get me wrong, I love the man's singing, but god damn, I wish he'd take
better care of it and himself!
