Go to the Temple of the Dog website. They have full
video's online of TotD peforming both Hunger Strike
and Reach Down at Irvine Meadows. The URL is:

http://ten.shocking.com/totd/

I've only found the time to download the Hunger Stike
one in RealVideo format. It's poor quality but still
VERY cool to see. :o)

hey kiddies. wow. i had the strangest experience the other day. i coulda

they play soundgarden, totd, AND sunshower on the radio too" but this was a
NEW song. i had never heard it before. and the fact that i'm even more
convinced it was chris is because this song was ACOUSTIC. didn't someone who
posted about Silvr Mgt. say that his album WOULD be more acoustic, eh??
well... i didn't get to hear who it was, or what the song title was (damn
radio station), but hey, maybe it was ?? i dunno... has anyone else heard a
song pertaining to these characteristics??? just a wonderin...

Subject: Re: More music

A top 20 albums list, eh? Well, since they're not banned on this list (as
they are on Ytsejam, the dream theater mailing list), I'll bite. Ranking is
nearly random, because I don't really believe in it, and it would be hard to
rank these albums, I believe they're so good.

1. Jethro Tull: Thick As A Brick
Just simply the most complete artistico-musical statement I've heard
to date, and one of the reasons I decided to become a musician myself. If
you ever decide to pick it up, please for the sake of music, don't
automatically label it as "classic rock" due to its release date and the
fact that Tull also did "Aqualung." You'll completely ruin the experience
if you do.

2. King Crimson: Red
If you enjoy the general mood of bands like Soundgarden and Sunny
Day Real Estate, but wish for a bit more elaboration and harmonization, look
no further. This is one of the few albums I consider to be completely
perfect from start to finish. disclaimer: if you're a really happy person
with limited experiences, you won't understand this album.

3. Soundgarden: Badmotorfinger
Simply one of the most rocking albums of all time, yet it also finds
time to be quite intelligent. Not much more explanation is needed here.

4. Led Zeppelin: Physical Graffiti
Yeah, yeah. I know what you're saying. "But what about IV?" Screw
IV, I say. It's a good album in itself, but I think Physical Graffiti says
more about what Zeppelin about than IV, and not just because it's a double
album.

5. Dream Theater: Awake
One of the two best albums of 1994, if you ask me. (the other being,
of course, Superunknown) Technical proficiency and emotion CAN be merged,
contrary to the popular sentiment.

6. Sunny Day Real Estate: LP2
I love all three of their albums, but this one has probably had the
greatest effect on me of the three. I find it emotionally and musically
similar to 1973/74 King Crimson (the era from which Red came), though many
might not. Great orchestration for a four piece band not containing
keyboards.

7. Yes: Close To The Edge
As with SDRE, Yes's output was of consistently high quality for a
fairly long period of time, so it's difficult to choose just one album, but
I think of this as the most perfectly crystallized statement of what Yes is
about. Pure energy, emotion, and virtuosity.

8. Genesis: The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway
A strange album, especially for those expecting AOR-inflected,
pablumized "Invisible Touch"-type stuff from Genesis. This album takes you
to another place entirely and makes you like it.

9. Tangerine Dream- Phaedra
Those people who hate techno would do well to hear this album. It's
the origin of much techno and electronic music today, yet it doesn't succumb
to the "you must dance to it, so nothing too complicated" syndrome. Simply
beautiful and interesting to listen to.

10. Frank Zappa: Hot Rats
Even though it didn't make Guitar World's "Top ten fusion albums of
all time", I think it deserves the top spot most of all the fusion albums
I've heard. Some are very well structured pieces, other virtuoso jams. All
top of the line.

11. Mr. Bungle: Disco Volante
Another weird, but good album. Not accessible by any means, but
after repeated listens, it is revealed to be a masterpiece of modern
experimental rock. I await the next Bungle album with anticipation.

12. Eric Matthews: The Lateness of the Hour
The best "pop" album I own. Orchestrated beautifully and written
wonderfully. Not a loud guitar album (though moreso than his first album),
but an excellent one.

13. Pink Floyd: Wish You Were Here
Probably the most human Pink Floyd album I've heard thus far, but it
beats out Atom Heart Mother only by virtue (or lack thereof) of the songs
between the extended pieces being better than those on AHM. I'm also
forming an attachment to it through something that happened recently. If I
was ranking these albums for real, this one might probably rise.

14. Faith No More: King For A Day, Fool For A Lifetime
An album that encompasses a wide variety of moods and coheres as
well. I'm not sure why this is considered by many to be the nadir of FNM's
output. I love it nonetheless.

15. Yes: Going For The One
Said by some to be a "second The Yes Album" in that it's supposedly
got a lot of good songs, but none rises significantly above the rest of
their 70s oeuvre, I think it's an amazing album, especially the closing
"Awaken" which, in my opinion remains one of the most energetic pieces of
rock music ever.

16. Fates Warning: A Pleasant Shade Of Grey
Quite a moody concept album that is low-key but doesn't bore, and if
you've ever had an ambiguous love relationship, you'll be able to relate to
the sentiments, at least.

17. Genesis: Selling England By The Pound
Directly preceding The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway, it's very nearly
as good. It's not a concept album, but it does have a theme running through
it: the mundanity and conformity of modern life.

18. Jethro Tull: A Passion Play
I seem to be stuck on concept albums, but with good reason: I
believe these are at least among the best, if not the best. This is a
little more "left of the middle" than Thick As A Brick, but every bit as
musically sound. Quite honestly, which of the two I think is better depends
on which I'm listening to at the moment.

19. Soundgarden: Superunknown
Top quality diverse rock from the masters. 'Nuff said.

20. Gentle Giant: Gentle Giant
It's a toss-up between the 3 GG albums I own as to which is the
best, but this is the one I listen to the most often. Complex, intelligent
rock.

21. King Crimson: Lizard
Earlier than Red, but every bit as good in its own way.
Symphonic rock and jazz fusion sort of concept album about the absurdity
of modern and medieval life. I also have an emotional connection to it.

Skunk Anansie is a damn good band that should appeal
to most Soundgarden fans, with their chunky riffs and
wailing vocals. Probably the best British band going
at the moment IMHO. They have a new album coming out
sometime around now too.

You should keep in mind that the Guitar World list was only listing
records from the 1990s, so I guess GNR and Metallica would be out of the

Isn't 'clamorhortus' more like Noisegarden? For Latin class once, I wrote
a poem about Soundgarden and used something to effect of 'soni hortus' (I
don't remember how to decline 'sonus' properly into genitive anymore).
