Subject: Spoonman/Matt Chat

Hey guys,

hope everyone enjoyed Matt's 3rd Boomthoery chat...it rocked, although the
connection was meanger and the page had to be refreshed constantly etc.

I'm writing, wondering when the song Spoonman was created...I've got a boot
from '94 where Chris says that it's a new song....but then yesterday...while
watching Singles I swore I heard it playing in the background (the scene where
the yellow Cit.Dick poster's tacked up). Also, Jeff from PJ got credit for
the title (where they were all brainstorming Citizen Dick song titles)...so
was this song around in the works for a while....I'd always assumed that it
was from around '94....never thought of it from the '92 days.

Also, Matt's chat was awesome. He answered lots of big questions about WWC
and his relations w/ PJ ("I'm permanently filling in") Also, he's playing
guitar in the studio with Pearl Jam on some tracks, and they are playing a
couple of his songs. Adam Kasper is also possibly producing their next album
(they've been in the studio for 2 weeks).

Brotherhood of Electric is due on vinyl in 2 months I believe....man, there's
so much that I know I don't remember...oh well, wait for the transcript.

I know I should rememeber this, but to whoever is keeping the SOMMS list
(you know, the list of who has somms) I now have three copies.
I found a copy today for $16 labled "Import with 5 song EP" at a local
music store- I guess they aren't subscribed to this list, are they?

I don't remember if I'm on the list as Tiffany or as Vampyre Cat
but anyway, that's number three. Since I paid $50 for the first copy
(yeah, I'm a fool) don't get mad at me for finding two more.

Back to lurking status...

>From what I read about it, Jeff came up with a bunch of fake song titles
for Citizen Dick. There were even some shirts pressed, and the backs were
album listings, and Spoonman is listed as one of the tunes. I reckon
Soundgarden eventually wound up writing a real tune using the title.

Hey, what's going on? My email got messed up for a while, so I couldn't
post my comments on a few things I've been reading about on the list lately
. Thanks for helping me out, Seth.

Congratulations, Vicki, on your winning bid. Think of all the good
that money will do the animals at the shelter. It was ridiculous when
people equated the auction as some kind of "purchase" or "bribe" of Chris
Cornell. As all SG fans should know by now (and especially us superfan
sommsters), Chris is notoriously reclusive. Coming out of his house to
raise money for the shelter this way can only show his immense generosity
and strength of character. Let us know how it goes, Vicki! :)

I missed the Matt chat last night, but I read the transcription of it.
I think Matt must be the nicest guy on the planet to take so much time to
talk with the fans. Someone said that he mentioned joining Pearl Jam full
time during the chat. Can anyone point it out, because I can't find that
in the chat?

Does anyone on the list have a copy of the Badmotorfinger and
Superunknown music videos? I've never had a chance to see any of those
videos, because I didn't get Mtv until I got to college.

Thanks,

Mike Apple

Matt Cameron Spills The Beans On Pearl Jam

Ex-Soundgarden drummer Matt Cameron, who filled in
for Pearl Jam on their last tour -- and is in the
studio with them now, despite denying that he is a
full-time band member -- hinted that Soundgarden
producer Adam Kasper may be handling production
duties for the new Pearl Jam album in an online chat
Wednesday (March 31) night.

Cameron shared his thoughts on some of Pearl Jam's
pop music contemporaries: "Jewel is the antichrist,"
he said in response to one question. On Marilyn
Manson, he said, "I think the world needs a Marilyn
Manson." The drummer also revealed that he may be
playing some guitar on the forthcoming Pearl Jam
record, and that the band is playing two of his
songs.

An edited transcript of the chat will soon be
available at Pearl Jam fanzine Five Horizons.

Hey yo,

Two things that confuse me during Matt's Boom Theory Chat...I'll
explain..

GARDENOFSOUND - MATT, ARE YOU NOW A PERMANENT MEMBER OF PEARL JAM??
MattCameron - gardenofsound: no.

and now the other one..

ROLLINGrockGIRL - MATT - so are you still FILLING IN or are you
PERMANENT in PJ now???
MattCameron - rollingrock: I am filling in permanently.

I don't really know what to say. 5H has gone so far as to use this as
confirmation that Matt is part of Pearl Jam, but I think that the above
reply to the question was truly tongue-in-cheek by Matt's part, if you
look at the first question, which was more direct. There's also other
points in question, such as WWC touring in the fall (which Matt said he
would) and a new PJ album. If PJ would tour (and it sounds like they
would), wouldn't this conflict from the WWC tour? Matt's a crazy guy,
but I don't think he's joined PJ permanently yet.

Yes, I agree with you. It confused me, after reading the transcript of
the chat, when all these web sites started trumpeting that he was now a full
member of Pearl Jam. Matt was being witty and ambiguous and he wasn't
really saying that he's joined the band.
Don't you wish they'd make up their minds about making him a permanent
member? It should be no contest considering that Matt is the best drummer
in rock history.

Mike Apple
