hey sommsters.

i don't want to post this and start a huge discussion and begin a flame
war which is why i am asking that any response to this be emailed to me
directly. i *really* appreciate any info any of you have to give.

Thesis: How did the bands Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains and
Nirvana of the 1991 to 1994 Seattle grunge movement affect the
angst-ridden attitude, lyrics and melody of alternative hard rock music
in 1999?

Inspired by the documentary "hype" and the soundgarden song "karaoke" i
am writing a research paper about the affect these 4 bands (soundgarden,
pearl jam, alice in chains and nirvana) from the "seattle grunge
movement"<91 to 94-- during the peak of all the hype> have had on modern
rock as it is presently. by this i mean... ***lyrics, attitude and
musical melody in general***. i chose these 4 bands for the sole reason
that they were the 4 most commercially successful bands to come out from
the whole "grunge thing". i know we all have our viewpoints about
who/what is "real grunge" from subpop to the deep6... to the u-men....
to selling out... to the classification of 'grunge' bands in general but
bear with it... ((in your reponses interject your viewpoint if you
wish)) but what i am looking/asking for is lyrics- similarities b/w
these 4 bands and a new band, anything which alludes to this subject
(karaoke), bands whom have openly expressed their influences to be one
of these bands (i.e. creed, bush and days of the new), articles, url
pages, books, magazines, quotes- band members, managers (kelly
curtis/susan silver), producers, similarities in melody of songs...
ANYTHING!!! if you have any relevant dates.... like the release of
"smells like teen spirit" which mtv stated as bringing grunge
mainstream... when 'black hole sun' hit radio airwaves and everyone
went crazy.... the premiere of certain videos etc. etc.

whether the information is in praise or against the influence of
soundgarden, nirvana, pearl jam, alice in chains, it is welcome
information. it doesn't even have to take an actually viewpoint... it
can just be a review. it doesn't even have to be a lot of info... one
quote or idea you maybe in mind is awesome. ohhhh man i hope i got my
point across. if you're confused please feel free to email me and i can
try to explain again. thanks soo much everyone :) keep me in my mind
the next time you run across an old article with kim thayil making fun
of "alterna-types" ;) or eddie vedder complaining about being a
"rock-star" or chris cornell making fun of "bush". this will be a long
on-going project. thanks.... and i have an easy email address,
unknown000@hotmail.com !!!

hopefully this wasn't too redundant for those of you who frequent the
newsgroups. =O

thanks everyone. rock on!
