I really didnt mean to give anyone the impression that I was holding my breath
for a reunion. What actually intrigued me, was the hint of an insinuated
regret. The realization that breaking up was a difficult decision to make and
that maybe there are days when it is second guessed. In some twisted way, it
makes me feel better about it. Like when you punish a child and claim that it
hurts you more than it hurts them, or when you realize that you must amputate
your left hand to spare your arm, or when contemplating varying ramifications
of euthanasia, as it may pertain to ill relatives. Some of you can probably
relate to what I am trying to say.

Pearl Jam To Work On New Tunes
Superstar Seattle rockers plan to meet back home to jam with touring drummer
Matt Cameron.

Senior Writer Gil Kaufman reports:

Pearl Jam will reconvene in Seattle within the next two months to work on new
material with touring drummer Matt Cameron, with an eye toward possibly
recording their sixth full-length album later this year.

"They're going to get together and play," Kelly Curtis, the band's manager,
said of the informal sessions.

The band's members have kept a low profile since the Nov. 24 release of their
first-ever live album, Pearl Jam Live on Two Legs, which featured Cameron's
recorded debut with Pearl Jam. The former Soundgarden member replaced ex-Red
Hot Chili Peppers Jack Irons on drums for last year's tour, after Irons
dropped out citing health concerns.

"I agreed to join them in the studio and help make a record," Cameron said.
"There's no other commitments other than that, but we're supposed to get
together in the next couple of months and play a bit."

Cameron, who just released the sophomore album by his side band Wellwater
Conspiracy, Brotherhood of Electric: Operational Directive(s), said he was not
sure if both he and Irons would be involved in any future studio work.

Pearl Jam's publicist, Annie Ohayon, said she too was unaware of the band's
future plans concerning Irons.

Cameron performed with the group on their 1998 summer tour, which yielded live
versions of such songs as "Do the Evolution" (RealAudio excerpt of live
version) from PJ's most recent album, Yield.

"All I know is that they want me to come in and work with them," Cameron said.
"I don't know if they've been writing already or not. I'm not sure what their
system is. I would imagine they're getting songs together."

While Peal Jam have been scattered since completing the last of their 1998
tour dates -- a surprise Oct. 10 Seattle club gig opening for their heroes,
power popsters Cheap Trick -- the various members have been keeping busy with
side projects. The band members, who first came to prominence with such
pioneering Seattle acts as Mother Love Bone and Green River, released their
first album, Ten in 1991.

Last October, singer Eddie Vedder recorded a collaboration with Seattle punk
rockers the Supersuckers on a pair of songs by the pioneering L.A. punk band
X. The songs -- covers of "Devil Doll" and "Poor Girl" -- were produced by X's
original guitarist, Billy Zoom.

"We've been toying with trying to get these songs together for a while,"
Supersuckers manager Danny Bland said. "And Vedder's always been a
Supersuckers fan, so he came in and they did this marathon noon-till-5-a.m.
recording session."

Bland said one of the songs is expected to appear on an upcoming X tribute
album he's organizing with the group.

Also in the works is the debut album from Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready's
new side project, the Rockfords, Curtis said. The group features members of
the rock band Goodness, including guitarist Danny Newcomb, singer Carrie Akre
and drummer Chris Friel. The album, not yet scheduled for release, might also
feature already recorded cameos from singer Nancy Wilson of '70s rockers Heart
and Cheap Trick guitarist Rick Nielsen, Curtis said.

Another Pearl Jam side project currently in the pipeline is the sophomore
album from bassist Jeff Ament's experimental rock band Three Fish. That still-
untitled album -- featuring singer Robbi Robb of Tribe After Tribe and drummer
Richard Stuverad of Pilot -- has been completed, Curtis said, but is not yet
scheduled for release.

Hey,
I'm not a vinyl collector, so I don't know if this info is worth
anything, but there's a vinyl FOPP hangin' out at a record store in the
Chicago area. It's the original SUB PoP deal, but it's just black vinyl.
I'd offer to pick it up for someone, but I have less than no money. If
someone in the area wants to know where it is, though, I'll tell ya.

Yep, I have the feeling, listening to the record, that Chris was trying all
possible directions for his vocal expression, but that ends up subtracting
homogeneity and unity from the album. That was even deeper on the Screaming
Life/Fopp EP, I reckon. What I'm saying is not that Chris couldn't sing, but
he was obviously still looking for *his* vocal expression, so to speak.

I could discuss Metallica for centuries, but I'm afraid it wouldn't exactly
be in-topic.
What a great band, btw.

I think Chris' voice on Flower is really cool myself. If he had sung like
that frequently that would've been cool too. Don't flame me! :)

I was reading that article about the dissolution of A&M that someone
posted recently, and I began to wonder-- if Chris Cornell and most of
the stable have been ditched, I'm guessing Soundgarden, since they are
no longer a band, have probably been released from their contract. Does
anyone know? I wonder what this all means in terms of B-sides and any
other projects, like the rumored live album, that were being planned,
ostensibly to fill contract obligations.

I don't think Soundgarden would be released from their contract
obligation. While they may not be able to sell millions of records
anymore, they would still be able to move a decent number of units--enough
to make profit. Since putting together an album of B-sides or live
performances doesn't require that much work or money, that would just
increase the profits for IGA.
