Kim is better than SRV, becasue SRV is not here anymore. Thayil kills
everyone. Ever. Cameron is the best drummer in the world, then in 2nd
place comes Chris Cornell, and then Ben Shepherd, then Kim Thayil.

Dave Mustaine is cool, but Marty Friedman (their lead guitarist) is a lot
better, IMO. Listen to his solos on "Rust In Peace," they are incredible. I
just recently bought the tab book, and I'm barely able to play the regular
parts on that CD. Every song (except for Dawn Patrol) on that CD has great
guitar work, especially Tornado of Souls and Hangar 18. This is Megadeth by
the way, in case there were some people that didn't know.

I've always liked Thayil's guitar work, but I could never really get into it
because on their records it always seems like the lead solo is lower in volume
than the rest of the song! Fell On Black Days comes to mind as an example, as
Chris sings over the solo and I can barely hear it. A song that has a good
solo I'm able to hear fine is the Pretty Noose solo; I was actually able to
play that one fine and hear it, too.

Subject: more about Kim

One interesting thing about the way Kim plays , particularly since
Superunknown, is that, as he said, he tried to invert the usual relationship
between the speed and the attitude of a track and its solos. So he put slow,
mellow notes on burning tracks and viceversa. Conceptually very simple, but
many times in music the best ideas have a very simple basis.

Okay, I agree with the Chris and Matt thing. Chris Cornell is the epitome
of rock god and I think he goes unparalleled in terms of vocals and
music/lyric writing. Matt Cameron's drum playing is beyond words. I
mean, he's considered a god among his peers. The stuff he does with
offbeats is simply amazing. Ben is my current favorite bassist, although
I'd have to go with Cliff Burton as my all time.
