Hey people,
      I have that Rolling Stone magazine with Rob Zombie on the front of
the cover, it has the info about chris' new album so I deicded to type
it up for you guys.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Rolling Stone Febuary 4, 1999
In the studio Chris Cornell. A first look at the Soundgarden front man's
solo album.
Ask Chris Cornell About his upcoming solo album and he's quick to warn
you,"It's not like Soundgarden. " There are no long guitar solos, which
lets Cornell put his vocals right out front. "This is a singer's record
that's more about the songs," he says of the still-untitled record, due
in April. "My voice was always the fifth instrument in Soundgarden, and
this is an album about my vocals."
     These celebrated vocal cords have been relatively quiet since the
breakup of Soundgarden, in April 1997. Never one to play the star game,
Cornell has studiously worked on the album in Los Angeles for the past
six months, avoiding the spotlight, though one of the album's first
tracks,"Sunshower," was released on the Great Expectations soundtrack.
The midtempo, acoustic tune suggests the feel of the new record, which
is at times ethereal and dreamy, and almost pushes the singer's voice to
the front of the mix.
     The album was recorded at the home studio of Alain Johannes and
Natasha Shneider of the Los Angeles band Eleven( Cornell met them when
Eleven were the opening band on a Soundgarden tour). "We'd sit around
the house, and whenever anyone had an idea we's go and record it,"
Cornell says. Blankets were tacked over the windows to block out the
noise from neighborhood lawn mowers, but the insulation didn't always
help. On " Sunshower" you can hear a garbage truck if you listen
closely.
     Cornell orginally wnated to work with Daniel Lanois, but hwne the
producer was too busy, he opted for the low-key approach with Johannes
and Scheider. Their home orchestra included chord organs, harmoniums and
old, rusty  sitars, along with sample from these and other instruments.
"It's not modern in terms of electronics," Cornell says of the album.
"There's no big,chucnky,fuzzy guitars. There's alot of noisy guitars,
but they are there for atmosphere."
     Though much of the material's dark mood will remind listeners of
Soundgarden ( and Soundgarden drummer Matt Cameron does appear on one
song), Conrell says people will be surprised by the electic nature of
the record. "It's not schizophrenic, but it's defintely diverse," he
notes. "One song is an R&B ballad that I wrote specifically becuase I
wanted to be able to sing like that. There are little experiments when
it's nobody's business but your own."
     At this point, Cornell says he is less interested in selling
records then in achieving his artistic goals. "I never wanted to make
music that was consider part of a fad," he says. " The way things have
worked out, the timingfor this record is such thta I am not in that
situtation. And, for once, that's a good thing. " -Charles M. Cross
heres something of interest from the interview..
MeteorCity: "As far as playing with the Wellwater Conspiracy: some magazin=
that.  It=92s almost like it=92s own Desert Sessions.  It=92s Matt [Camero=
John and I have become pretty
there has been alot of debate about this going on on the jb mailing list.
most of us feel that it was a sympathy vote and that he would never have
been nominated if he was still alive today.  i mean he was never nominated
before.  he had much better songs vocally than "everybody here wants
you."  just listen to "last goodbye" and "grace."  oh well, the only
consolation is that millions of people will see a 10 sec snippet of the
song, and hopefully will fall inlove with his music.
i *really* doubt that jeff will win.  the voters are totally out of touch
and 90% of them will probably never even have heard of him.  if he does
win i hope his mum gets up there and makes one hell of a speech that will
bring the auditorium to their feet (though i also doubt this will happen,
as most of the artists there won't have heard of him either).
Only thing i have to say is that the critics said some pretty good
things about Sketches. This leads me to believe that they will vote for
him. Yes he never got recognition for "Grace" or "Live at Sin-e" but
there was a lot of buzz about Sketches. It may be because he died, every
one listened to Sketches cause they wanted to see what his music was
like, and they fell in love with it. So don't count him out yet. And to
my suprise, a lot more people have heard and like Jeff that i thought.
