I know it's just barely soundgarden related, and I don't think I've seen
anyone bring this up before, but I thought it pertinent because of the
Pink Floyd posts last week. I saw a video for a cover of Pink Floyd's
"Another Brick in the Wall (Part 2)" by "The Class of 1999" comprised of
Layne Staley and several other people whose names I didn't recognize.
It's not a bad cover and seemed very appropriate coming from the
soundtrack of "The Faculty," that latest-in-the-teen-horror-flicks-genre
movie.

That's all, I suppose.

Oh, merry christmas for those who put trees in their houses and act
surprised when they get things they asked for today.

I was sitting on the stage for the last show in Hawaii. Ben was ranting,
pouting, kicking and spitting. He spit at and ran after his bass tech.
at least twice. He was CLEARLY unhappy with the sound of his bass.
Chris was singing and playing guitar as Ben yelled complaints in his ear
and stalked back-and-forth behind him. Ben figured out that Chris was
going to ignore him, so he walked a few feet away, turned, and spit at
Chris. As soon as the song ended, Chris went over to talk to Ben. Chris
was frustrated, but remarkably calm. He was firm and direct, and the
conversation ended with Chris making a facial expression and body gesture
of "This is not a problem. Just move on. Get over it and play." Next,
Ben shouted at Matt and tried to stare him down. Matt ignored Ben. Ben
spit at Matt. At this point, Kim had had enough. Kim crossed the stage
and demanded that Ben control himself. Ben responded by cursing at Kim.
Kim walked to the stage staircase to get away from Ben. Ben followed.
Kim and Ben proceded to have a "fuck you," "no, fuck you more" cursing
match on the side of the stage. Kim walked off stage. Ben kicked and
damaged some equipment. Kim returned to the stage to tell his girlfriend
and guitar tech. that the show was over. Ben called Kim a "big, stupid,
dumb-head," motioned like an umpire calling a runner 'safe,' and
shouted, "It's over." Matt and Chris finished the show with two more
songs. And that was that for the Hawaii drama.

Ben's "It's over." quote combined with his inexcusable behavior at this
one particular show would make it easy to believe that he is the reason
Soundgarden broke up. However, anyone who has talked to Ben knows that
he was going through some tough personal problems at the time. And from
his own statements, he is quite obviously the former Soundgarden member
that misses the band the most. The band was together since 1984. They'd
been through a lot tougher times than the occasional outburst by an
individual band member. It was just time for them to move on.
