I was thinking about suggesting something like that but dreaded going back through 2+ years of saved somms messages. Anyway, I wouldn't go so far as to say it is my favorite, but as far as blending soundgarden, the list and humor, I nominate the post below. But first, one of my favorite quotes from a SOMMS message: "My biscuits and gravy suck but I make a hell of a trip to the donut shop!!" -- Toni Roark (tonerkin), 8/4/96 Actually, another p.s. before the post. In going through just my saved messages from '96, I got near teary eyed recalling the good times and good people on this list. From trading with, talking to, typing at to meeting and befriending. Sorry, it was just like one of those montages they show at the end of the olympics, so many good things in such concentrated form. It made me re-realize how great this list is. And please note the "is". I miss the old days of the list, but I am confident that old listers still around and those more recently arrived will make these days yet to come equally exciting and memorable. Well, there are funny Chris quotes aplenty, but I always liked this one: "I saw someone throw their pants in the air. You can all take your pants off and throw them in the air. I think that would be fucking cool. Come on! Everybody! Remember you have to take your shoes off first." Bremerton '92 Jen ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 27 Nov 1998 12:49:53 PST From: The Koggle Subject: No more posts about the 'good ol SOMMS' please?? Hey Sommies Please can we stop talking about 'how great things used to be' and pine for a past we (well, some of us) never had? The basic truth is that the list is what you make it.. don't wish to have other times and events back and in turn ignore the present.. This is not meant to be a flame, I'd like you to hear me out.. >It's kinda like the BBS (I was long time poster on >that thing and still am, but I didn't find out about SOMMS for a while-- go >fig). It got HELLA fuked up. It used to be funn as listening to drunk people >make animal noises in the wee hours of the morning. I don't know about anyone else but i don't want my mailbox clogged with drunk sheep when all I really want to hear about is Soundgarden.. Do that kind of thing with your friends.. MAJOR POINT: this is no BBS.. <lot of interesting personalities that posted a lot, BUT, don't think for a >second that the flames weren't there. Flames back then got down right >vicious. If someone didn't like your opinion, you heard about it and >sometimes to the point of making you feel lower than a squashed ant.>> ooh yeah.. very true.. i was a newbie once too (like everyone) and I got flamed to all hell and even got silenced by Seth for a month or so.. it wasn't fun but i can say i learnt from it. When I look back I can see where people were coming from with their flames (no matter how bitchy i thought they were) .. It all comes down to re-reading your post.. asking yourself whether it's SG related and whether it's worth posting to either the whole list, one person, or at all.. ><<*****WHAT IF...*****CHRIS' ALBUM CAME OUT ON APRIL 9??????>> > >Then that would be freaky. But wouldn't it be wierder if one of the >guys died on April 9th? Uh.. maybe not.. what brought this on???? You know... I got flamed for mentioning something like that around the time Princess Diana passed away..... times *have* changed.... > Anyway, it really sux that I missed all the "fun" times on >SOMMS. Sounded like fun. Maybe you could contribute to some 'fun' and not suggest a pending death for a SG member!? heheh! Post some of your 'fun' ideas then.. don't just post saying "i missed the fun, woe is me".. It's getting to me. Like people who come over to your house and just sit there "I'm bored I'm bored" and expect you to entertain them, just cos it's your house that they decided to go to.. ya see, you don't like those "i'm bored i'm bored" people do you? >I just think that an email like whe one that was dug up from >the archives would never be 'allowed' now. >If someone innocently remarks on a SG's member's body..as opposed to his >music...all hell breaks loose. Says who?? You mustn't be reading all your posts.. it might not occur that often, but i think subtle hints of being impressed by the guys' physique is WAY better than uh.. rape by email (for the lack of a better phrase!). Most of toni's posts have *something* to do with Kim, but she does it tastefully.. It might be what you're thinking of when you listen to one of their CDs, which is great, but remember they are people too.. Personally, I wouldn't want to be among the many who treat the opposite sex like objects, famous or not.. but go ahead, we aren't prudes.. >All I'm saying is that no one here could >get away with all that gratouetous talk about them in a uhmm...physical >way. Uh ever heard of Shroom?? heheheh Well that's my 50 cents (but i have to give it to you in change.. Canada doesn't have 50 cent coins.. damn i miss my home..)
