Just because they don't pump out an album every other year (like they should!!) doesn't mean they aren't around. It's not like he's going to be playing a Soundgarden set and only mixing in a few new songs, I'd say it will be about 50/50. Jerry Cantrell played as many AIC songs as he played songs from his solo album during his tour, and I would expect about the same from Chris. After all, he did write most of Soundgarden's songs, so why wouldn't he play songs that were already his to begin with? I think that most people will be glad if he does, especially those who never had a chance to see SG live (like me). ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 18 Nov 1998 15:39:17 EST From: Charlie Mccutcheon Subject: Re: Chris covering Soundgarden In a message dated 98-11-18 12:16:34 EST, LetMeDrown@AOL.COM writes: << Of course Chris is going to play some Soundgarden material during his shows, and I don't see why that would bother some of you. Or hearing SG at an unexpected place and being thrilled about it. We love to hear SG, no matter where or when. Think about all of the times that people have posted URL's to the list of some unknown band covering a SG tune. In fact, not too long ago, someone posted the URL to hear some German chick play BHS or something. So if we don't mind hearing (or hearing about) all of these unknowns (and possibly non-talents) playing SG stuff, why would anyone be upset if Chris plays SG? I think that any of us are thrilled to hear anyone playing SG. That's why we don't mind hearing about those unknowns. And I don't think that time will be a problem. I sincerely doubt that his first tour will be anything more than small venues, mostly on the West Coast. He doesn't like to tour. Chris could easily fill one hour with his own stuff...from the new album...from stuff that hasn't been recorded...from past solo stuff (sunshower, seasons)...and a couple of SG songs. So if he headlines with someone (of talent), that would make a good, full show. And true, if Chris tours, it is just Chris...it's not SG. But I wouldn't mind hearing him play some songs. (not 50/50 though) I'm sure that it won't sound like what we're all used to. I think it would be interesting to hear what kind of twist he would put on the songs. (For that matter, it would be interesting to hear what just Matt, Ben or Kim would do.) So now that practically everyone on this list has voiced their opinions on this subject....here's a new one. What would a SG song sound like if just one of the guys adapted it to his sound? For example, would JCP suddenly have some punk undertones if Kim played it (with other backup). For that matter, what do you think it would sound like if Kim sang? Whoa! ;-) ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 18 Nov 1998 16:04:08 PST From: Arden SunGod Subject: random questions Sommies- I have all these random questions building out.. they're all easy, no messy opinions, I'm just curious! In the seattle '90 boot they play Loud Love with that snazzy intro; was that a one-time deal, or did they do that more on the '90 tour? That's the only show I have from then. Niki and I were talking and she said you can only get Christi on Reading '95. Now I have it, but is that really the only place you can get it? I was under the impression it was slightly more abundant. Cleaning my Gun and Oceanfront-- you cant get those anywhere, right? I dont think you can, but I learn something new every day... Lastly, is there anyone on the list who happens to have that infamous temple of the dog video from the off ramp (I think?)? I've been thinking about it a lot and I was wondering if anyone here had it, I've never heard anyone talk about it. On another subject... (uh oh, personal opinions! I better make this one pretty clear..) I was daydreaming in the shower today about being at a Soundgarden concert and getting pulled on stage and Chris goes, "You can sing any song you want, we'll back you up" (I was singing along to Beyond the Wheel at the time.. *rubs sore throat* I'm all hoarse now ;) ) ..so if you could sing one song (and yeah, I know everon else in the audience would be a-booing you, because you know *we'd* throw a fit if some no-name got on stage and sang instead of Chris, but hey, it's a daydream!) which one would it be, and why? Keep in mind vocal range and all that. Wouldn't want to go and try to sing Beyond the Wheel or Smokestack Lightening and have your voice go out on you! Anyway, I guess I'm just curious.
