Try online sellers or used record stores. It usually costs $8 used at the most and can sometimes be found still sealed. No, Wellwater Conspiracy is not just Hater plus John McBain. Besides, John McBain was in Hater too! An overlap of some people, but with differences and with a different sound and approach. To learn the differences go to http://www.engr.uvic.ca/~cmackenz/wellwater/ and hear soundclips at http://www.engr.uvic.ca/~cmackenz/wellwater/sound.html and visit http://ten.shocking.com/hater/ Thank you Christi and Catherine for making my visit to CA even sunnier and for a thrilling Soundgarden afternoon!! As I was driving down to Christi's house we passed through these strange, rounded hills, and just as the familiar air of them began to occur to me, BHS came on the radio! I am not kidding!! And all I could think of was Butthead saying, "In these hills Juan Valdez..." Sort of a mindless sound!!! wow. mindless is the perfect term for it. and yeah, sunshower does hit that nail on the head. not that the song is mindless or meaningless, because i think it far from it i still love the song to death.... but it's reaching people who never knew more than BHS or FOBD. and i'm sure that's what chris wants to do, reach a totally different crowd... but... man, when i have to deal with more than 15 sorority-types all knowing sunshower... it starts to get scary. but i though i think he'll get a trendy following, i also think it won't stick around very long... just the same with Weiland or Cantrell. they both had that one solo hit and then it was like "whatever happened to....?" > But if a SG or a > Led Zep comes on the radio - up goes the volume, I feel the music, my > sprits are lifted, and I simply become happy.. you know it! :) (though i'll do a grand scan of the 3 stations here if zepp is on... still don't like them...sorry) >I'm torn!!! We know they will not come back - but damn it's hard knowing there > is no new SG coming in the spring!!! my god, i've been aching. i look at the sg that i do have and i just shrug at it sometimes. i'm so hungry for ANYTHING new. i'm listening right now to jeff buckley's second disk from "sketches" and it is so mind-blowing. all i can hope is cornell took some lessons from him, and that maybe, just maybe, his album will be as brilliant as buckley was. and i do remember the giant speech i gave about thinking cornell will sound like an advancement of TOTD (uh oh, i said the magic word) and DOTU... but the more i listen to jeff...the more i see chris like that too. and that does not bother me in the least. that makes me even more excited than before... but the soundgarden hunger is there. i keep remembering the show i saw, and going "damn..." cause it was almost 2 years ago!!! wow!! it's SO sad to think of that being that long ago... just... i want to see it all again. i want to hear some new stuff, and i have a feeling B-Sides will be just a much a waste as A-Sides for those of us who spent all the cash on the singles and what not... oh well. it'll help others get to those same b-sides easier, and i'm NOT bitter about that. but........ if cornell did decide to do something soundgarden in concert, by god i'd kill to hear like suicide or mind riot (heh, of course!) or nowhere but you... or maybe even boot camp... but that's about it... i wouldn't want to hear anything else because then it would get all cliched like Cantrell's solo (from what i've heard). anyway, i'll end now before i start rambling too much. ;) mindriot ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 15 Nov 1998 11:11:46 -0800 From: John DiPanfilo Subject: Re: Chris Covers SG? Hey everybody, I completely agree! There would only be a couple of songs that Chris could cover without the rest of Soundgarden. Not to put words in Mr. Cornell's mouth or anything but I feel that Chris has been taking a lot of time to make his solo album, because he doesn't want to put out something that just sells or makes us Soundgaeden fans happy. I think that Chris is taking time to make an album that makes him happy and illustrates where he is musically at this time. What it will sound like, I don't know, but I can practically guarantee that it's not going to be full of Sunshower like tunes. It will most likely be like all of our Soundgarden records, varied... I think that sums it up, that he has good taste in bands/band members and what not. And because of that fact, I have faith in Kim. If he does start up again and joins/forms another band I don't they they'll suk, because Kim is original, and all the bands that I think suk, are UNoriginal. So not to fret anyone... Kim will always impress us with whatever he does. Aww yeah... LOL NOW... about this Chris Cornell business and what not: PLEASE no SG stuff. I mean, that's just blasphamy rite there folks!! I think I would get pissed if I went to one of his concerts, and he goes, "yall mite know this song" or WHATEVER and start playing like switch opens (love that song!!), I would get poopymad. URGH. Cause it really pissed me off, like what Arden was saying (I dunno if she was exactly pissed off, BUT the same senario), with Jerry Cantrell doing hella AIC songs. Man... I think that's so awful how he did that. I'm sorry, but just because you may have the lead singer or the band minus the lead singer, it doesn't give you the rite to preform BAND songs when you're SOLO. SHEESH. Probably headlines (PROBABLY...)..Jerry Cantrell didn't headline much... 2. Say he headlines. His album will probably be around 50-65 min barring any unforeseen extensive secret song (I'm just guessing. That's how long any album on average usually is) 3. Chris won't be able, or couldn't do every single song on his album, therefore, to satisfy the Soundgarden freaks, or SOMMSters, whichever you wanna call it, he'll throw in some SG songs. I have looked at all the posts, and I think that this is a likely scenario. Maybe I'm wrong and instead of singing, he strips naked and paints himself in the colour spectrum..but we don't know that. Obviously chris is not going to put an old soundgarden song on his album, but he will cover sg stuff during shows, i guarentee it. Who ever said they would be pissed if he covers sg material has no idea what theyre talking about. Chris cornell wrote 90% of sg's lyrics and about 70% of the music, so technically, and i hate to say this but chris cornell is the core of sg, he made it happen. the other 3 guys are amazing players, but chris made it work with his lyrics and music.Just think about what groups sg covered. Like black sabbath and led zeppelin. These were two bands kim vocally hated and disliked, but the music speaks for itself as will the past sg songs chris will cover. Well, now that the verdict is out, we can all sleep soundly. I'm glad God himself has taken it upon this list to enlighten us all. Soundgarden never did a proper cover of Led Zeppelin to my recollection. And it is not the case that Kim dislikes those bands. I can remember two interviews where this can be shown. 1. He said that it would have been rediculous for Page, the guitar master, to do backup vocals, and equally rediculous for him to do so. 2. He said that he envisioned Soundgarden to become a Black Sabbath without the "parts that suck" -- the solos that go nowhere. There is an interview where he's angry about the constant comparison between Soundgarden and those two bands, and that he was more heavily influenced by others, but that doesn't mean he disliked them. I personally agree that Chris was the central personality in the band, and drove the talents of the other members of Soundgarden. But many people on this list disagree. Now onto the real issue: will Chris cover Soundgarden? It depends on what Chris foresees as his future in music. The fact that he's working with A&M again tells me that he's not interested in pursuing a WWC/Hater sort of project, but an MTV, Radio, full publicity career. In that light, it is indeed hard to imagine him not playing atleast Black Hole Sun, and a few of the more popular Soundgarden songs. I imagine he'll end up focusing on parts of his music that he wasn't able to express very well in Soundgarden. I can really see him doing some Beatles covers... and not Helter Skelter or Come Together... but real Beatles songs like Strawberry Fields or even the Taxman. Of course, this is coming from a person whose favorite Soundgarden song is Like Suicide-acoustic, and who's growing further away from hard rock on a daily basis. Maybe it's wishful thinking. That's enough rambling for me today. -Bill ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 16 Nov 1998 00:36:42 -0500 From: Michelle Subject: Here's where to find Hater OK.
