Well, I signed my email like I usually sign shtuff, and then when she replied she was all, "Uhhh, Soundgarden broke up." URGH!!! That gets me pissed!!! I mean, if I was into the Greatful Dead or Pink Floyd, and I signed my emails: peace, love, hope, faith, soup and p i n k f l o y d always groovy, kathleen : )), I KNOW that no one would go, "Hey, Pink Floyd isn't around anymore.". That just gets me. I mean, wouldn't someone respect a DIE HARD fan more, because it would be known that they love the band HELLA??? SHEESH. Like I said before, you can't more die hard than Soundgarden fans. Man... I went through this same stupid crap when Soundgarden first broke up. What songs would you like to hear? I would NOT want Chris to do any Soundgarden in his solo act.. Why, because Soundgarden is Kim, Chris, Matt, and Ben - not just Chris.. When I hear a SG song I visualize the band not just one person. It's the same with other bands covering SG, it's okay but they can not and will never (IMHO) be as good as SG doing their own songs. I want to hear new, different, and exciting music from Chris. If I HAD to name a song that Chris would do of SG, it would have to be one that was a "B" side or never released on a normal CD. For example "Fluttergirl". Of course in order to reach a commercial audiences Chris may well have to do some SG in his act - just to draw in the "Oh yeah the guy who sung BHS" crowd... Which brings on another question -- what type of crowd do you think Chris will draw??? I know the hard cord SG fans (i.e., SOMMs Members) will go. But unless Chris does something in the musical vain of today's sound do you think he'll pull people only because of his SG connections??? What were your > favourite > memories? Sarah, you made my day! Goddess of Soundgarden....I like it ;) My favorite memory of Nov. 9 (besides meeting my fellow SOMMSters of course) was being face to face with Chris - handing him the pumpkin bread I had baked for the band (after lugging it around in a bag feeling like an idiot) and getting the sweetest "Thank you, that's so nice!" from him, with a look that said he really meant it. Just being lost in those eyes for a moment.... Another favorite memory is hearing the acoustic version of Black Hole Sun. I don't think I ever really *heard* that song until I heard it done acoustic. And then there was Helter Skelter....best cover of that song I've ever heard. I think the only bad part of the whole night was at the very beginning, when the bitchy woman in the ticket booth said she couldn't find our names on the guest list and we feared we would lose out on our passes. My heart was in my throat! But it was heaven from then on. It still cracks me up how Erin Haley made a big point of telling us to respect the guys space, etc. when we were all so numb with awe and excitement that we wouldn't have dreamed of taking advantage of the situation! And Toni, I don't think rehashing things is such a bad thing...especially since we've had two years to live with it. There are lots of new people on the list, and we had hit kind of a low point here.... It's plausible that Chris would cover some SG.. not saying he's entirely or even anything like Cantrell, but when I saw him a few weeks back at the DV8 he did quite a few AiC songs (which I wasn't expecting in the least, but was nonetheless cool!). It's possibly Chris would do some sg stuff. As for the audience that he'd draw, that's going really to depend on what happens with the album if he happens to get (eech, dare I say it?) a "hit single" or something that gets a lot of non-Sg-ers all psyched about him, he could end up drawing some bizarre trendoid commercial radio crowd-- butI dont see that happening to a large extent. My guess would be he's just going to draw up 'gardeners like us, and some people who sorta liked Soundgarden. Something like, "Hey, that's that guy that sang for Soundgarden.. I wonder if he's any good by himself..." ..but we shall see, wont we? =) Cant wait either way ;) -Arden ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 14 Nov 1998 13:17:36 PST From: The Cat Subject: Re: Chris Covers SG? >From: Jamesetta Simpson >I would NOT want Chris to do any Soundgarden in his solo act.. I'm thinking the same -- a crowd who are into the music being played today (and Sunshower does meet that standard). I'm a bit confused with the sound that is popular today I like it and I don't. You know it's on the radio all day and you catch yourself singing along and yet I haven't gone out and purchased any of it. Sort of a mindless sound!!! But if a SG or a Led Zep comes on the radio - up goes the volume, I feel the music, my sprits are lifted, and I simply become happy.. I'm torn!!! Do I want Chris to go with this sound or put out what we all have come to love from him. I don't want him to stand still but, is today sound the way to go???? All I know is I'm so hungry for the sound of his voice, the driving beat of Matt's drums, the splendor of Kim's guitar, and of course Ben strong nasty bass.. i was riding home with my parents from work and i = heard it on=20 the radio. i was like, "man that really ruins my day!" i went = home and=20 listened to their cds over and over. i was really choked up that night = and=20 didn't want to talk to anyone. that was a bad few days. all i could = think about=20 was soundgarden, wondering why they would break up.

after that, it seemed that i wanted to make as many = people=20 like soundgarden as i could. i was always taking my cds to my friends = houses and=20 playing them, pointing out really great songs and such. it was some time = after=20 that that i began to have an intrest in finding rare songs and others = that=20 weren't on the albums.

i first bought alive in the superunknown, the = interactive cd.=20 while exploring the videos and other interesting things, i came upon the = part=20 where it has the fell on black days outtakes. while i was listening to = that, i=20 heard the part where i think Matt said that he hopes that they can make = as many=20 records as they possibly can, and i wondered what he would have said = knowing=20 that only one more album would come. i don't know. it still makes me sad = to=20 think about the whole breakup thing.

after looking through that whole interactive thing, = i listened=20 to the songs that were on it. i instantly loved the acoustic version of = like=20 suicide. like suicide became one of my most favorite songs after=20 that.

some time later, i was looking through the cds at = the record=20 store and came across the soundgarden cd book. i went home and read the = whole=20 thing and while looking through the releases listed in the back, i was=20 dissapointed that i didn't have all of the soundgarden songs that i = could=20 possibly have. i made it my goal then to obtain every song ever recorded = by=20 soundgarden.

for the last two years, i have been collecting rare=20 soundgarden songs and b-sides. my total soundgarden cd collection = includes 18=20 cds released by soundgarden, in the united states, england, and = australia, 3=20 compilations, chris cornell's single "sunshower", and the = bootleg=20 "ugly flowers". i was lucky to find ugly flowers. while on a = spur of=20 the moment vacation in myrtle beach, south carolina, i happened upon a = cd shop=20 that sold rare music which was where i found it.

now, i have as far as i can figure, 95% of all songs = recorded=20 by soundgarden, and the collection is still growing. but, as every day = passes, i=20 still hope, in hope bottom of my heart, that soundgarden may somehow get = back=20 together and record once again......................

would any of you like to share your soundgarden = story too? i=20 would really enjoy hearing them.
