Jones" Subject: An alternative from opinions Well, for one I am sick of the posts lately, so,instead of insulting and shouting back and forth across this interplanetary venue, I'm going to attempt to change the subject. For one, where can one purchase the Screaming Life book?? Myself, I have searched several half-price book stores, and 3 or 4 major ones, such as barnes and nobles, border's, and such. Second, can someone explain the remix of New Damage on the Alternatve NRG cd (the greenpeace thing) to me?? I found it, got it, and it doenst sound any different than the bmf version. What exactly did Brian May do?? Third, where did exit stonehenge come from?? Or a splice of spacejam?? I've got the mp3s of these, but that's all. Any info on this?? I'm sure I will be ridiculed for this pubescent post, but oh well, I suppose we are ALL used to it. Fare the well. slitmeopenandsuckmy ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 10 Nov 1998 07:22:02 EST From: Igor Nepomnyashchiy Subject: SOMMS bands Ok, I was going to do this for a while, but I thought now would be a good time because I am sick home and got nothing to do but write E-mails... so.... I would like to create a list of bands of people in SOMMS. I want to do this because I am growing tired with going to big shows and want to see some bands that aren't mass-media. And I don't want to see some crap band I've never heard of.... but if it's a person (or people!) from SOMMS playing in it, I know it had Soundgarden as one of its influences, and that helps A LOT on the good/bad scale. Ok, enough describing. If you got any more questions, E-mail me. BTW, any results I get I am going to keep in a file and will at some point make a web page out of. Here is the "questionnaire": What is the name of your band? Who is in your band, and which of the members are in SOMMS? Where are you from? Do you play concerts/gigs/shows at all? If yes, do you tour at all or do you just play in and around your home town? If you are playing live any time soon, please give at least a few dates and locations and who you are playing with. How long have you been a band? Are you signed to a record company? Which one? Do you have any CDs out? What are they called? Ok, thats about it for the basic info.... the next few questions are very optional and are just there to get an idea of what you sound like: Who are your main influences? Who, if anyone, do you sound like? If you have the time, describe in your own words what you sound like. What do you sing about? Ok, thats about it. Please respond to this.... it shouldn't take TOO long to respond to ... and if you need additional motivations- it is free advertisement (although i hope that isn't what's making you do this). Thank You... Hope I get a huge response. -Igor ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 10 Nov 1998 07:24:04 EST From: Igor Nepomnyashchiy Subject: I need MP3 help I just the modem on my new computer working so now I want to overuse it to download MP3s and other files so.... please send me some Soundgarden (and others) MP3 site URLs. I know this post won't be remembered..and i know it will just get thrown together with the other zillion meaningless posts that have been done over the past 2 days...but i think i have a very valid idea so try and keep this one in mind.... About the 100 list....WHO GIVES A FLYING FUCK IF THEY'RE ON THERE OR NOT!?...I honestly don't. I know that SG is quite possibly one of the greatest bands of all time..and that's good enough for me. I know they're talented, and I don't need some shitty list to tell me that. I know it on my own. You don't need a list to make it official...ok people?? (Besides, SG not being on this list enough or whatever...it just folows the pattern of them not being recognized for the true art that they are/were. My European vacation is almost over (I fly home November 20th), but I wanted to say hi to everyone I'm missing. I have found some of the coolest bootleg shirts over here. Yesterday was the biggest score of all. I found a DOTU sweatshirt. The body is black, but the hood and sleeves are gray. Both sleeves have Soundgarden written down them. The front has a huge picture of the band with the DOTU hallway & candles in the background. The actual picture is Superunknown era, though. On the bottom of the front side is the bottom half of the DOTU cover (the reflection of them standing in yellow) and it has Soundgarden written over it. On the back there's a picture of them from the Spoonman video (where the pic is all in different blocks, but very clear and cool looking). Under that it says Soundgarden AGAIN, and under Soundgarden it has the DOTU outlines of the guys, but instead of yellow they're in red. It's kinda cheesy, but very colourful, graphic intensive, and cool. ;-) I think I might go back to that store and see if they have any more of them. And I HAVE to scan this shirt in, it's so groovy. Some of you freaks must see it to appreciate it. If I can score any more of them, I'll post about it. Speaking of cheesy, the funniest piece of "heavy metal grunge history" I've acquired is the Soundgarden belt buckle. Yes, I will be the envy of all headbangers when I buy a belt and attach this buckle to the front of my skin tight black pants. All I need are some pointy toed boots and a rhinestone covered jackets, and I'm the coolest hairspray sniffing fool in town. ;-) Just kidding. I love the buckle, even though I won't be wearing it. The damn thing is seriously heavy. I scanned it in, if anyone wants to experience the cheese with me. (Ignore the dirt on the right side of the buckle. I'd dropped it in the mud earlier and didn't realize it until I saw the scan. ;-) http://members.aol.com/shroomgrlz/sg_buckle.jpg Anyway, many happy hootchie smooches to all you good little Soundgarden freaks. I'll be back home in a flash, so do e-mail me if you get a chance. This is not a new thing kiddies. ) The thing is, Jeff Buckley was not a popular as Soundgarden. Yes he had a quite large fan base but nothing like SG. Don't get me wrong, Jeff Buckley was/is a great artist and will be missed greatly, but you can't say Chris or the entire band didn't make the "Top 100" list because they were not recognized. Jeff, who was less popular, made the list. there were other artist on the list that i had never heard of before so it's not like the people who compiled the list only got the real popular people. -- -AS mailto:asnod@home.com http://members.home.net/asnod |-----------------------------------------------------------------------| | | | "I had to have a wank and go to bed to calm myself down." | | | | | | Richard D. (just to clarify.. most magazines are crappy to me, ok?) How about I make up something too; accept it or don't.. it's up to you. * ToTD wasn't a 'nothing' album like others have said. What the hell does that mean? Who can say an album does or doesn't affect people/other musicians.. are we suddenly psychic? Despite the fact that everyone's tastes/experiences are different, some messages hit home to certain people and some mean nothing. (Hence a whole bunch of bothersome posts to SOMMS all about the same thing) * Wouldn't albums that affect a massive amount of people be more popular (by means of radio etc etc..)? They reach a broader audience, more people hear them, more people are touched by some aspect of these songs ie. 'Nevermind'. It got out to a bunch of teenagers who found a way to rebel through the music, as simplistic as it might be, it found a huge popularity because suddenly everyone's like "Yeah! this guy knows how i feel!!" I know that doesn't work for every situation; some genres of music can hover underground until they catch on with the radio stations and then the band that 'makes it' for that genre goes on to say how much So-and-So influenced them, and the crappy magazines say, "ahh.. #59 it shall be!" even if they weren't really that great. I would use Skinny Puppy as an example, but i don't really know their stuff.. But anyway.. keeping on track.. Temple of the Dog to me won't be on any list. It was about a very real and emotional subject and i love listening to it, but it just so happened that the people who made it were already in their own *successful* bands. ToTD to some might seem like a compilation, a one-off, not a regular CD..and not one that can be rated, listed, or played on the radio. And that my friends is my point.. Temple of the Dog wasn't seen as a 'band' to be rated, listed.. they were a glitch in the system, a shooting star, a fabulous one-off, a dream, and no one knows what to make of them. So instead of raving about them, they're not heard of anymore.. Do i make any sense?
