Jen ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 22 Oct 1998 01:56:26 -0500 From: Mayor McCheese Subject: Question When I went to Seattle for spring break last spring, I had the extreme pleasure of meeting Ben. He sat at the OK Hotel calmly drinking a coffee. To make the story short (cause who else cares?) I have a couple questions: 1) Ben said that when SG recorded "Into the Void" with the Sealth lyrics, Ben suggested that the bad give all the proceeds to the reservations in the Seattle area. The rest of the band didn't agree to or it got put on the backburner and forgotten (can't remember which). My impression was this didn't seem to make Ben very happy and he seemed very ticked off about it. Anyone else hear about this? 2) Half (my fav) was written for his daughter and Ben said he was planning on teaching his daughter that song someday. I thought that was the coolest thing I had ever heard. 3) I asked Ben about the Seattle band "Tot Finder" (saw an ad for them in a Seattle free paper there) and asked if they stole the Hater song title for their band name. Ben hadn't heard of them but told me the origin of the title. It seems that the fire department had a 'tot finder' sticker you could place in the window of your home in the case that your house was on fire, the firemen would know theirs kids in the house and could look under beds and such. Anyone have one of these stickers to give to a guy? 4) I asked Ben what his favorite SG songs were. He stated that he took "Nightsurf" back since SG didn't play it right and thus, never played the song again. He also said alot of stuff about liking to play fast stuff (punk specifically), but it doesn't sound as good to the audience and can get boring. He really liked "Cold Bitch". He seemed to be floored by it. Since we were on the topic of Chris, I remarked that I was afraid a certain artist I know was pulling a "sting" and becoming adult contemporary after leaving a very influential band. Ben just smiled. It was mysterious as a smile gets, but I don't think the man would say anything bad about any of them. I steered clear of all further discussion of old band members. 5) I didn't want to come off as a pushy fan, so I sat and talked about raising horses with this 70+ old guy at the bar . . . I thought it was funny, but for some reason Ben seemed to be listening in on the conversation looking over alot, never moving from his stool, but never entered the conversation but to remark on my boots and my being from Fargo, ND. Later Ben started talking about a Mudhoney and R.L. Burnside concert that was supposed to happen on St. Patricks day. It was cancelled and to this day I regret not being able to go (and you can bet your bottom dollar I wanted to go w/ Ben). If you've got one e-mail me, privately I will add, the name, web addy, and it would be nice of you to send a link just so I can see your good work, and to gawk also. I believe the L.A. Troubador show tickets also went on sale through Tickmaster today. As far as I know the other shows are being handled by the venues themselves. The Berbati's Pan show in Portland will be at the door only, no advanced sales. So-- I got my plane ticket and my Showbox ticket today! I plan to catch the Eugene, Seattle, and Portland shows with friends. Any sommsters who plan to be there and want to meet up with us, let me know and we'll see if it's do-able. I won't be in control of the car and I don't imagine we'll have much spare time, but we can always say hi at the clubs :) Jen ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 22 Oct 1998 16:31:00 PDT From: The Cat Subject: Re: Matt sites Here is the best one I've been to...great info, huge image gallery, Matt trivia, and nice backgrounds: =) =================================================== The *Official* Unofficial Matt Cameron Webpage: http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Frontrow/2626/ =================================================== There was another good one, but I lost the address. The author of the page posted his website addy on this list, but he got flamed by a guy who said that the author copied a bunch of stuff from the Unofficial SG Homepage. Nevertheless, it was a very nice page. It had (on the main page) a drumset, with a beat playing on it. Depending on which drum was being played, one would light up.
