The music was fantastic, but unfortunately the vocals were drowned out from where I was (inches from Ben). Having given up on straining to hear Mark I concentrated on listening to Ben's bass (a mosrite) and watching his hands. It's the closest I've ever been - and for someone who usually focuses more on the vocals and the overall sound - it was quite an education. No Ben antics (but then it wasn't his show) but he seemed to be enjoying himself. As they left the stage, a couple of people in the audience shouted his name and he grinned and raised a hand in acknowledgement. Fashion note - Ben wore black shirt, black jeans, black boots with buckles. And, unlike many famous people(for want of a better word) he is really is as tall in real life as he looks on tv/in pictures. Jen Grover - I copied down Ben's set list (some bugger beat me to the actual slip of paper) if you want it - and I've exchanged emails with the girl next to me who was taking pics for a fanzine (she'd just interviewed Mark backstage). At my request she took lots of Ben and hopefully she will get in touch. So email me. AMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!... Thank you,.. someone said it..I was reluctant to say anything concerning this whole Shin dig... and I am so glad someone Said it for me.... JUST IGNORE HIM.... HE WILL GO AWAY!!.. AND IF YOU HAVE To say something to him... Send it to him.. and ONLY him... leave us innocent By- standes alone.. Can we please get back to discussing what this list was created for... SOUNDGARDEN!!! To change it back to SG...I just heard Fresh Deadly Roses (GREAT SONG), and I was wondering, is it a cover?, or was it written by them...(I really need to learn more about SG's NON-Album songs...) well thanks for your time.....and remember sometimes.. if you just let a mosquito sit there and suck your blood..and leave it alone, it will just take what it can, and then go away.. or (if you're lucky) it will EXPLODE...ok ;-) -Deek P.S. please exuse my Not-so "Perfect Anolgies" ;~} ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 18 Oct 1998 12:30:16 +0800 From: Georgia Subject: It's finally over... I was listening to A Sides in my car very late last night, and I thought back to this post from about a week ago: >>From the Lip Service column in the Rocket by Johnny Renton: >"We start at the going away party held at the Showbox for Erin Haley, Mr. >Renton's favorite local management-type formerly of Susan Silver >Management. Mr. Renton is sad to report that, unfortunately for us, Ms. >Erin is headed to L.A. for a new job.> Now, I don't know about anybody else, but this really spells THE END to me. For everyone who was lucky enough to meet or encounter Erin, I'm sure that this news strikes in you a similar feeling of finality. After all, what would the SOMMSfest in Chicago have been without Erin. Even for those of us that weren't there, that secret thrill reading all about it & seeing those pics taken at Moody's would never have been. She made a fantastic trip to Seattle almost a fantasy come true for me (didn't meet Chris, but did met Susan & patted Pancakes!). And what about KOTS and the infamous Wall of Shame so loudly and sometimes crassly decorated. And I really think she has made quite a quiet contribution to this list too, in it's heyday. I recall seeing the copies of the digest printed and filed, ensuring she (and Soundgarden) stayed on top of what was happening on SOMMS. Catching up on the list news for the weeks I had been abroad. I heard Ave Maria for the first time in her office. So firstly SG break up. Then Susan retires. Erin moves to LA to start a new career. The last emotional threads holding all that I loved together are gone. I'm sad. georgia ------------------------------ End of SOMMS Digest - 17 Oct 1998 to 18 Oct 1998 ************************************************
