Helping the rocker celebrate his 50th birthday were Eddie Vedder, Chris Cornell, Dick Dale, Matt Dillon, Steve Jones, Jack Off Jill's Scott Putesky, and George Thorogood. The soiree was held Thursday (Oct. 8) night at On The Rox on the Sunset Strip in West Hollywood, Calif. Ramone & Co. rocked out to the sounds of T-Rex, Sweet, and other sounds of the '70s... mindriot ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 10 Oct 1998 01:08:45 PDT From: Arden SunGod Subject: Re: Shroom brief letter to the list.... *snip snip* <> *Actually*.. This last spring I took a little journey up to Vancouver Canada, and I must say, they have some of the *coolest* stuff there. There was one particular store (in gastown.. hell if I know what it was called. It was underground-- you had to take stairs to get to it) had the belt buckle, and a shot glass, and a coffee mug all with the same BMF wheel motif. ..if I had the money.. I suggest to all of the people living on the US side of the canada border to wonder up there, it's well worth the trip! I picked up mint condition flower yellow 10" for $3 US.. *score!* Just grab the phone book out of the motel and look up "Records, Tapes, CD's: Retail" ..you'll find a fortune in stuff. It seems to work everywhere I go! -Arden ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 10 Oct 1998 10:38:14 -0400 From: The Hansens Subject: Re: ??? I have been getting about 20 e-mails a day on this stupid topic. And now its gonna stop. Me response to Daniel Bolton is HOW DARE YOU! How dare you come on this list, and give SOMMS, possibly Soundgarden's greatest fans, these lies. How dare you make these comments without any background information. How dare you say that any song on DOTU was not suitable for radio. Let me tell you that after BOTOW was released, many different songs were played on the radio, and YES, I know that it not only happened where I live, but all around the world, because I was in SOMMS for like, 2 years now. >(woulda been 18 songs, but they didn't get the songs finished in >time). How dare you say this! If you know anything about the music industry in general, you would know that this fact isn't true. SG maxxed out the number of minutes on a CD, halting all the songs left over. Must you forget that around 30 songs were completed for Superunknown? But about 15 were selected? >AMAZING......but Soundgarden wasn't the kind of band that would make the same >album twice.. just because it was popular.....I respect them for that.. Wow...you speak like a true SOMMS vet. Like fucking RIGHT! How dare you blast DOTU, which in your opinion sucked, in front of SOMMS. The least you could do is to message the guy PERSONNALLY! If DOTU was released on an indie label...would you still say this? But you know what? I would still buy it. And one further comment. If I see anyone flame someone on SOMMS, I will attack the flamer. SOMMS is not a flaming discussion list. If you want that, leave somewhere else. SOMMS is only a Soundgarden discussion group and that is all. I am SO supprised that Seth hasn't come here personnally and stop this, but he is a busy guy, and he can't be everywhere at once. But if he was here, Danny Bolton would be off SOMMS. No word on what tracks from >what show(s) will be included; they are > still working on it. I heard something similar to that too, but the disc was to include miscellaneous tracks from shows from the whole tour, not just the U.S. part of the tour. Remember the tour started in Australia and Matt didn't join up with the tour until about halfway through.. (ie. I missed out on seeing him in Brisbane, but saw him in Toronto) Some tracks might not have Matt's drumming on them. Mayor McCheese, you rock man.. :) Re: whoa horse (thanks punk!) >WHOA?! MAYOR!? According to interviews I have, what Ben hated about touring was the down time. He loves playing live. He has said so repeatedly. And hey! he's touring right now, in Europe no less. What separates the knockoffs and those inspired from the original is that he knockoff has no depth. Listen to any SG song- its got all the elements of SG PLUS somethingg else. Listen to any knock-off song- its got those elements of SG and nothing else Listen to any inspired or influenced song- its got elements, and something deep which is different from the something deep of the original band. Nothing is really original anymore. And whats with the band bashing??? K i like Big Wreck, i like days of the new (well i dont have much respect for that Travis Meeks kid but the music's good), Creed, and all those other bands that sound like a Seattle revival.(EXCEPT for Bush *shudders* ) If were gonna bash them then were gonna have to bash soundgarden too....theyve got alot of Zepplin and Sabbath in them dont they??? nothing can really be original anymore inless your incorporating like Eastern music, industrial, opera, and metal or something.... so dont be bashing all these other bands for being influenced by the Seattle scene..... Where's the love?Stop the violence. Listen to the banned, fight music censorship. Mr. Renton is sad to report that, unfortunately for us, Ms. Erin is headed to L.A. for a new job. But he's happy to say that her going away party was a blast. Pretty much everybody who was anybody in the music biz was there. Attendees included Chris Cornell, Kim Thayill, Ben Shepherd (does Mr. Renton hear reunion rumors?), Alice in Chains' Sean Kinney, ex-President of the United States of America Jason Finn and Jesse Hickman. Of course Susan Silver (a.k.a. Mrs. Cornell) was there as well and said many kind words about Haley, all of which are echoed by Mr. Renton." ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 10 Oct 1998 18:14:02 EDT From: Daniel Bolton Subject: Re: ??? The original American release (of Superunknown) contains 15 songs but the international release has 16 songs on it - the same first 15 plus 'she like surprises'. Similar to the way Nirvana had a normal and international release of Nevermind, but that's another story. Well that's probably because you are International, in terms of outside the US. Since A&M is located in the US, Hollywood to be exact, everything OUTSIDE the US get's a diffrent version. I think I remember Lars Ulrich of Metallica say that in the UK they have to release a new single every 6-9 weeks. That's why there are sometimes 2 or 3 versions of the same single ex. "Black Hole Sun". It's pretty weird. I guess people in the UK buy more stuff than us Americans, not that I'm saying anything bad about the people in the UK or the US. -- -AS mailto:asnod@home.com http://members.home.net/asnod |-----------------------------------------------------------------------| | | | "Flavor Flav is in every thing ya eat 'cause every thing ya eat | | got's flava!" | | | | -Flavor Flav, Public Enemy | | | |-----------------------------------------------------------------------| ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 10 Oct 1998 23:32:11 -0400 From: Dave George-Cosh Subject: Re: Jerry Garcia's Finger >What is the deal with Jerry Garcia's finger.. BUT I can not for the life of me imagine hearing the beautiful "Like Sucide" come to it's beautiful climax, then the beautiful ending then NAAAA NA NA NAA NA NAA (which is the best way I can describe the intro,) as an ALBUM I think it would have weakened Superunkown.
