No word on what tracks from what show(s) will be included; they are still working on it. Looks like our boy is going to get what he deserves, all of his AWSOME drum grooves and fills shall not go to waste. I hope it has lots of pictures in it! I bet you at least 2 songs from Seattle shows. Like they said no track list, perhaps we should speculate on the list and from what shows the songs come from? My idea is a tad diferent from what they will do. I think they should do a 4CD set of both Seattle shows!! -Nick aka Spackle ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 9 Oct 1998 01:36:52 -0500 From: Mayor McCheese Subject: ??? For my .02 I'd like to add that 1. Early Soundgarden sounds alot like Bauhaus to me. (As does some songs of Nirvana's Nevermind seem to have stolen a couple Bauhaus riffs.) Go listen to "Double Dare", "Dark Entries", "Stigmata Martyr". The difference is that good bands grow from influence, instead of festering from the ease of resting on their influences. 2. I still hate BUSH and every other stupid ass band that runs around looking for publicity these days. Isn't Marylyn Manson just the Jerry Springer of music? Why don't people see through the thin veil? then again a famous german philosopher once noted that something that has depth strives for clarity, while those that wish to look deep look for obscurity to make the "waters" look deep since the majority of people won't go for a dip in any thing they fear. Somehow, it would be untrue to say that the current state of almost all current music had any depth at all. All I see on the radio is a bunch of shit, producerly shit. Soundgarden was a rare breed that could have a leg on both sides of the fence. Sitting securely producing commercial music while retaining artistic drive and freedom. When it ended, there was only one leg left, and it was on the wrong side. Down on the Upside had it's artistic moments, but alot of it was a very stale sound for |them|. Matt and Ben especially never cared for the business side of it and they all saw it as best to take a break. That's my take on it. I think the reason Ben hates touring is because what does it prove? The artistic instantiation was already made with the album, something that can't be reproduced. So whats the use of running around the globe playing essentially what you just wrote? Promotion of albums. Sales. And the bottom lines is what bands like Bush and Mr. Manson live for. It's all money and fame and TV appearance and meet and greet. And most kids never want to look into the depths of good groups, it's so much safer in the shallows. I guess to me....I don't have any room to say any band "sucks". For one, these people have more talent in one finger than I do in both my hands. (Though, I've never had the chance to really LEARN how to play an instrument). Opinions are like assholes, everyone has one. If you don't like something you hear, don't listen to it. Turn the fucking radio off, or change the station. Nobody forces you to hear it, let alone listen to it. I'm good at this speach cause at the former school I dropped out of last year, gave me shit about loving Soundgarden. Short story for you all - I got shit for listening to Soundgarden because I didn't have Beatles and Grateful Dead sitting with my SG CD's at school. Funny part is, these kids who listen to Grateful Dead, the Beatles, the Doors, only "listened" to them cause some "cool" lack of many showers, upper classman does. They weren't into the music, they "listened" to it, because some "cool" guy does. I myself will NEVER listen to a band, to fit in. If you don't like the way I am now, tough shit. Sad when most people are out to impress everyone. Then for the fact that 99% of the people in my school meant shit to me, was funnier. I minded my own business, yet I always heard their opinions. Only time I blew up was the day SG broke up, and some kid started laughing about it, I told him if he laughed one more time I was gonna chop his dick off and shove it down his throat. Shut him up. Anyway, please (heh heh, I said please) stop bashing bands. I get sick of hearing about it. Yeah yeah yeah, I don't HAVE to read your posts on "I hate Bush" or "Hanson looks like girls", just like you don't have to listen to the music you dislike. I try to keep up with the posts, but if I go on a deleting spree I may miss something actually worth reading. Just keep in mind, that when you bash a band that someone actually LOVES, like we all do with SG...it wears on ya after a while, and you feel the urge to strangle the next person who says something about that band, even if that person is a worthless cum gargling nimrod. There's my speel for the day. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 9 Oct 1998 11:30:43 -0400 From: Traeger Sarah C Subject: "Share, if you want to share.." Yikes!!! Why are some of you so proprietary about Soundgarden? I think it is a great testament to the importance of Soundgarden in music history that they are "copied" or have had an "influence" on certain artists. Do you think musicians live in a vacuum? How many of you outspoken people practice Soundgarden songs and try to get the exact lick of the guitars or the exact high note or vibrato of Chris??? Have you READ the biography of some of these new "ripoff" bands like Days of the New or Creed? These guys struggled from the time they were teenagers. These are not some studio compilation bands like the Spice Girls, All Saints or Backstreet Boys. And for those of you are are still unforgiving...how many writers and articles called Soundgarden a "Led Zepplin" ripoff?? If the music is good-even if its is reincarnation of another band it will stand on it's own. I know this may be blasphemous, but I enjoy listening to "influence/rip-off" bands such as "Days of the New" or "Creed". If I can't have new Soundgarden, then I will try to enjoy those "artists" that love SG enough to incorporate their sound into new music. Nothing will ever replace our lads, but time moves on.... P.S. Please refer to Michelle's flame disclamer.I found it very well put and would like to borrow it's sentments. Can we please try and stick to Soundgarden? I don't want to hear talk about Primus, talk about it privately. >you really want to get nit-picky you can go listen to "BUTOW" and then = >listen to "Blown wide open" by Big Wreck why, cos they have variations on the word 'blow' in the title?? Satan Leaf I'm sure you can get your point across without using such ridiculously gross language. Sure, I will swear myself, but i couldn't stop laughing when I read your post. Is that the kind of reaction you wanted? You really have no SG related point when you just say 'I've never heard of Days of the New, but fuckin Hanson suck'.. I am so glad you want everyone to know you know how to use the f-word now. >Earlier this year i listened to most of >these bands and "pretended" to like them. I thought "Man, they're >influenced by Soundgarden so they gotta rock." why? influenced does not mean identical.. anyway why the hell would you pretend to like a band??!? >Bought the Creed >cd... they were actually pretty good. But they're still unoriginal >bastards. Hence the term 'influenced'. Do you think Soundgarden got their Wild and Crazy new sound from the sky?? No.. they were INFLUENCED by other bands. I've been told how old SG material was much like Black Sabbath. Does that make Soundgarden unoriginal bastards? Are you PRETENDING to like them? ehhehehehehe >dumb fuckin lyrics which are so lame that my >pet ant wouldn't even piss on them. It's all a piece of fuckin shit. I think if you actually have a pet ant, you are the lame one.. HAHAAHAHAH! I don't think an ant could actually piss on lyrics unless they were written down in like font size -100 so the ant could conjure enough urine to cover the lyrics. get your mouth outta the toilet, son.. it makes you look dumb. Michelle you are exactly right. I understand your post totally.. :) >can anyone tel me how rare the version of superunknown with sixteen tracks >is. it's not. You can get it for 10 bucks anywhere. It MIGHT be rare in the US or Canada, but not rare enough that people would search it down like SOMMS. In Australia, it is all over the place, the track is She Likes Surprises and the inner part of the CD is red, as opposed to the all black CD. thank you i am done. flame away if you will. I'd have to agree with Nikki... there are times when you should you it and times when you should not. Take for example, Soundgarden. Ty Cobb just wouldn't sound right if the lyrics had been "Hardheaded pork you all". It still would've been a great song, and the interps for it would be mighty interesting, but it just wouldn't be Ty Cobb. And then of course, there's BDS. I'm gonna screw screw screw screw you? No. Not cool. The entire song was centered around that word because Chris was taunting al of the aging glam bands who sang about sex but wouldn't say the word. If BDS didn't say fuck 35 times, it probably wouldn't exist.. On the other hand, we have every other album song out there. Besides piss and hell (and the constant debate that in Outshined he's saying "when the dogs are shitting" instead of shedding), their songs are virtually pottymouth free. They saved it for the B-sides, I guess. :) Fell On Black Days. "I sure don't mind a fucking change"? I don't think so. I'm not saying that Soundgarden is a clean cut, goody goody two shoes rock band. Anyone who's seen them live (especially when Chris is drunk) knows that. My point is, they were smart enough to know how to use the language tastefully. Try to learn to do the same. -punk- P.S. That made me wonder.. who wants to bet that if the B-Sides disc actually is full of B-Sides, it gets a sticker? Those are so demeaning. If you have any worries about the person you would like to purchase something from, check their feedback profile. it is indicated by a number next to their email address/user ID(kinda like an AOL name, ya know?) how many positive transactions/feedback comments they have recieved. Once you are a registered user, which it is free to become and never will you be charged anything for just being a user, you can find out how long a fellow ebay member has been a member. the only charges you will ever incur from eBay as an organization is if you decide to sell something through them. then it is explained how, based on the worth/selling price of the item, what kind of comission or usage "rent" (can't think of a better word) they will expect from your auction. you never have to sell anything ever, if you do not choose to. any more questions, i'll field them! or ebay does have information on their site, http://www.ebay.com that may help you out more than i can. :) later, mindriot ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 9 Oct 1998 17:18:24 EDT From: Daniel Bolton Subject: Re: ??? What the hell? No where in that email did I say that DOTU was aweful! It just wasn't as good as any other of their albums. And I guess that's just an opinion. And what the hell do you mean that it wasn't a commercial album? Where the fuck were you during Pop Culture class? WE live in a consumer/production society. DOTU sold enough albums to feed me the rest of my and your life. Go reread my post. It was a commercial album but soundgarden, unlike alot of bands these days, had a very artistic drive to all their albums. But, DOTU was less artistic, and esthetically less pleasing, than their previous works (ie Rhinosaur). Now, I dont doubt your a big fan, as I am, but I dont have to prove it to myself or others, and thus lie about the fact that "Blow up the Outside World" and "Burden in My Hand" were very Superunknown. Soundgarden was never one to copy others, much less themselves. All the way up to Upside the were growing artistically, but it looks like to slowed down with Upside. Despite great moments like "Applebite", it looked like a leveling off. Thats it for now. Just cause it isn't on the radio doesn't mean it's less artistic. bye On Fri, 9 Oct 1998, Daniel Bolton wrote: > IN RESPONSE TO "MAYOR" > Down on the Upside was NOT commercial at all, it didn't even sell at all...it > had it's few hits... but it was 16 songs long...and I believe over 70 minutes > (woulda been 18 songs, but they didn't get the songs finished in > time).,...there is no chance of a song like Applebite, Tighter&Tighter, > Overfloater, An Unkind, or pretty much ANY OTHER SONG on the album of making > the radio.. much less airing on MTV.....and may I remind you the WHOLE BAND > hated touring.... it was their Last Tour that broke them up.. they couldn't ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 9 Oct 1998 18:37:36 -0400 From: Geoff Subject: Re: ??? I have heard several of the non-singles on the radio. You happen to live in the wrong part of the world. The reason they are not played on MTV is because there are no videos for those songs. >and may I remind you the WHOLE BAND >hated touring.... it was their Last Tour that broke them up.. they couldn't >take it anymore.. the commercial aspect was too high.. All of that seems to be speculation, inaccuracy and bullshit. It is well known that the band did not particularly relish touring, but the fact is, nobody knows why the band broke up. It is ridiculous and ignorant to say that it was because of the last tour. If you know something that the rest of us don't please speak up in a detailed manner. Again, it sounds like speculation/bullshit. >I happen to think Down on >the upside is their most mature release.....Less Radio Friendly that >anything else..... I'll bet you that the number of times 'burden in my hand' alone, has been played on radio exceeds the number of times all of the songs on all three of those albums have been played, but that's just my guess. >I am not putting down ANY of their albums.. they are all >AMAZING......but Soundgarden wasn't the kind of band that would make the >same >album twice.. just because it was popular.....I respect them for that..
