I get the list in digest form, on Aol's basic e-mail program. Every so often, just as I'm about to read the postings, all the text gets blacked out and impossible to read.(I can print it or cut & paste it, though). I can't be the only one this is happening to (can I)? Am I being punished for my impure, obsessive thoughts? Also, remember you are free to reply to someone personally if your email concerns one person's post. And another thing.. i don't really get this whole discussion of 'image' and the media.. and how it really relates to soundgarden at all. The media only does all these 'evil' things some of you describe if you listen to it and acknowledge it. Since Soundgarden are hardly what I would call hassled by the media, I have no problems with what any stupid magazine or tv show says. I hardly watch tv and I don't buy magazines. I may not be model-beautiful, but i don't think I'm ugly. I could care less if I don't look like so-and-so.. I look like me, and isn't that what I should look like? Personally I also don't like being called 'kiddies' when I know the person calling me this is alot younger than me.. could i be getting old and cranky? ;) Get over your problems with your schoolmates. You may think they're 'beautiful, accepted' or whatever but that has nothing to do with what kind of music they listen to. You probably think you're above all that radio trend stuff.. but hey, how else did you discover Soundgarden? How else do you find out what's new in the music scene? Alot of the times radio DJs have news strangely earlier than anyone else.. No one really is above it all.. it just varies in degrees, by how often and how much you inolve yourself with trends and 'what's cool'. Soundgarden is not a band for 'ugly' people and I cringe at that thought.. I don't think it is even RELEVANT that there is anything about looks concerning which bands someone likes. It is a 'trendoid' conversation you guys have started. 'We think those people like that music because of this.. let's blame it on the media'.. Get over that. Enjoy the music you like.. stop looking for the 'point'.. Forget trying to be someone else.. Be yourself, understand the media plays a role in shaping things, but know how you can control it in your own life, and remember that you can't change it in anyone elses. Respect that. If there is a 'special meaning' in Karaoke, why doesn't anyone write an interp? Ex-Soundgarden Singer Chris Cornell Plows Ahead With Solo Debut The vocalist's album has no release date yet, though a B-sides collection from his former band is slated for 1999. Senior Writer Gil Kaufman reports: Nearly two years after the breakup of Soundgarden, the band's former singer, Chris Cornell, has completed more than half of the tracks for his solo debut. Cornell, the muscular-voiced frontman for the defunct Seattle hard-rock/metal band, has been in a Los Angeles studio for the past six weeks, working on the still-untitled album, for which he has already recorded seven songs, according to his manager, Jim Guerniot. "It's a loose vibe, where Chris is producing it himself and just letting it go where it feels right," said Guerniot, who also manages Offspring and heads Time Bomb/Deconstruction Records. Guerniot was formerly an executive at A&M Records and is credited with helping to sign Soundgarden and nurture their career at that label.
