I just got home about 2 hours or so ago. I saw the PJ show I recently mentioned (asking people if they were going). I didn't get to meet or see anyone recognizable, but I do know that a few SOMMSters WERE there tonight (or shall I say "last night"). If you saw my pic at Koggle's somms site then you might have recognized me. Another way you could've known I was there was by Matt. If on the lawn (towards the center-ish, cause my voice isn't THAT "projectful", but enough for the section, I think), when Matt appeared on the jumbo scream I let out big-ass, piercing screams for my baby, so if you were lucky enough to hear me, yet to be a little bit away from me (cause I might have damaged ears), then "Hi! that's me :) " Anyhoot, as many of you can agree, last night's show kicked ass! Some guy (maybe a Sommster, I dunno..) came up to me tonight, after noticing the SG shirt I got made (several, several, several months ago..way back..), and asked me some "Matt-stuff". Then he just left to go with his friends. I was in the front, right area (if facing stage) of the lawn. Later I moved to the center section. My main reason of being there last night was to see Matthew, OF COURSE! And I do like PJ so, it's all convenient. People, let's just say that Matt kept up to the praises he received from everyone else's posts from previous shows. (Yeah, sweetie!!! Woohoo!!) At last night's show I overheard these two guys talking and the one dude say to the other, "Man, he IS better than Jack Irons!" The guys I went with also commented to me about Matt. They were very impressed, hopefully more SG fans will be drawn from Matt's performances. The Man was superb! I wished the camera dudes would've shot more really "great" scenes of him, you know. Not like he wasn't all that, but I mean they showed him playing simple stuff and when he'd play like a "different" roll, or pattern or whatever they didn't show it often.. maybe I missed it, cause I was squinting and looking between people and peeking up and around just to physically see him with my eyes! But I know there was this one song where he did a long roll or "colorful" piece and they kinda just didn't show it till late when he got done it :( He sang background a little bit, in which I was hushing people around me so that I could hear him.. he was quiet (of course). I cheered after that too. (I'm just gonna keep this post "Matt-SG" related, so the PJ will be left out for you guys to just read stuff about Matt) So, they came out about 3-4 times to do encores and during one, Eddie did this song where it was just him and the audience and I looked on the big screen and saw Matt conducting the audiences' singing :) That was stellar! Eddie, nearest the end, acknowledged Matt's performances on the tour and BAM! a huge section cheered (from where I was it was just like a section that was the loudest, including myself, in which I was quite a ways back from them.. I was kinda shocked that more joined in actually, noticing how the audience was before hand) and then Eddie mentioned Wellwater and was just saying stuff (I guess he didn't know what to say..he was just saying stuff) and telling people to listen to it. I remembered that he said that his family listened to Wellwater all the time, or something like that. Let me go on to mention some physicalities (ya know I can't resist, MMM!): I 'believe' (as in I'm not sure) that Matt cut his hair. It looks shorter, I think. He was wearing a black muscle tee I believe and black pants or shorts. Help me out if I'm wrong, I can't remember :( But he looked nice, as usual and he sounded phenom! With this being, yes, my FIRST goddamn concert :) , I really got a huge treat! And got close enough to "Soundgarden" as I can ever get so far (I mean, physically). (Yeah, my first..) Unfortunately, it's not a "Matt Cameron tour" and they didn't sell Matt t-shirts, hats, posters, stickers, socks (the socks were neat, hehe), undies, or drumsticks so.. I guess we'd better ask him to organize one :) BTW, I dunno what the rest of you were yellin' but I went simple and did a "Matt!", even though "Cameron!" would have been better (there are lots of Matt's), but I got my friend into it and the whole night she yelled "Cameron!" for me cause I was losing my voice (singing loudly to the few songs I knew and yelling/screaming for Matt, and of course the other members, hehehe, I love Stone, Jeff, Mike, and Eddie also! Sorry Jack, but you weren't there). I would like to hear other reviews from people that went to the show I went to. And once AOL allows me to update things on my Matt-love-shack page, I'll ask some stuff from you all.. right now, it's the way it is and I can't do a damn thing to it, unfortunately, so I'm sorry for the incompleteness and old stuff (trust me, I've got some stuff I want to put up so bad, but AOL is making me wait.. it's been months I think...ugh!). Have a good rest of the morning. It's going on 4:30 am and I need to SLEEP!! Now can die a happy hootchie, Maria P.S. It's unfortunate that I didn't have closer seats so that I could send little messages to Matt :( But "maybe", just maybe, it was for the benefit of him that I didn't throw him my belongings (toys, clothes, stuff... hehe) and write him seductive, I mean, encouraging, congratulatory messages :)~~ ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 19 Sep 1998 05:29:37 -0500 From: tonerkin Subject: Re: SOMMS - From 1997 To Now At 02:27 AM 9/19/98 EDT, Shroom Girl wrote: >Actually, the SiCA's are the darker side of SOMMS. I was in the second row at the show and had a perfect view of Matt the entire time. (By the way, thanks to Merriweather security for confiscating my cheap- y throw away camera even though PJ management said only professional cameras were prohibited. Ever try arguing with them?) Matt had a solo with the spotlight on him during a song whose name escapes me and the crowd went wild. He was excellent all night. I thought he was particularly good on Given to Fly. And during Wishlist, which isn't heavy on drums, he looked like he really had to hold back to keep the drums quiet. The first thing the friend who went with me (who knows nothing about SG) said was "The drummer was amazing! Did you see his arms?!" God he has big arms. << He sang background a little bit>> I was surprised at how little background he did sing. I only caught him singing on Betterman. <> In general, Matt looked like he was having a great time with the guys. He was wearing a sleeveless tee with something written on it that I never did read. Matt was great, but it is still so weird for me to see him with another band. In The Washington Post yesterday there was a long article on PJ playing the area and a nice picture of PJ with Matt. It was so weird to see him standing there with PJ. SOMMS Mom wrote: <> Can't wait! This only means that Chris could still be recording with "Eleven" (or anybody for that matter), and still be doing the producing himself. To: SOMMS@MITVMA.MIT.EDU A note to SOMMS- Chris's new album will NOT have Eleven playing any songs with Chris, or at least it will not feature Eleven doing every song. Chris has probably played most of the instrumnets on the album, and keeping in mind that 5 songs were self-produced by the beginning of August, and Chris has by now either will self-produce or find someone else to produce, we'll have to see. For due-dates, expect a Late November/Early January release. I'm sorry, but if you want a successful record to be released, you gotta finish all the songs by now and release it in a few months. Well here it is after 1AM and I've just come in from the "Rock the Vote" concert. All I can say is Matt was, is, and always will be the best damn drummer. He is a wonder to watch and listen to. For all you Matt hoochie out there - his hair is very short, his upper body is so, so fine, and he wore a red and black muscle type shirt. For the music appreciation group - well what can I say....he took PJ to a new level and his solo brought the crowd to their feed. As Tracy pointed out even the members of PJ would stand and watch him. He is just one incredible drummer. The over all show was really good. Hovercraft, the opening band (Eddies wife's band) - well to be nice the first 15 min. was okay then it got old fast. This was not the crowd or concert for that type of sound. PJ did a really great encore but in my heart I kept wishing that a miracle would occur and Chris would walk out to do a TOTD type thing.. One can only dream....
