And yes, it would be wonderful to go back and relive that. It was such a heady experience. For me it wouldn't be the first time I heard them, but that moment when I went head over heels and knew that they were "my" band. It happened at a time in my life when I really needed it. They pulled me out of a dark and scary place and made me feel good, and more comfortable with myself. To anyone who's been to one of the concerts, were they THAT bad? Did they all sound like the Austin, Texas MP3's that The Conspiracy used to have on the site (which, in my opinion, wasn't the best concert I've heard, not by a long shot)? One other (unrelated) thing I remember from the chats is one person asking which Soundgarden song Matt hated playing to the most, and Matt said Rusty Cage. I remember Matt getting hit by a lemon during a concert while SG was playing that sound......is that the reason why Matt doesn't like Rusty Cage? /\ /\ 'o' -The Cat Don't listen to the message below....it was put there by Billy Corgan himself!! _____________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail. My first reaction was definately Jesus Christ Pose because of the strength I find in the song. I hear it as very aggressive and demanding, which I like in music very much. But the more I thought about other songs that have been brought up and discussed, the more I had to go back and listen and compare all of them. Then it hit me. The first time I heard Soundgarden was when Louder Than Love was released. My boyfriend at the time turned me on to them. I remember listening to Loud Love. The guitar intro still gets me everytime. It just grows and grows and makes me want to expand with it and burst! That scream fading in is so seductive and overwhelming! The tempo makes me grasp onto every beat and every word. The sound is so thick and heavy, weighing me down. It almost sends me into a haze sometimes--I stop what I'm doing and just listen, especially when I have the volume turned up really loud. And then it just ends. I always felt like it ends so quickly, and without the force that the rest of the song has. It begins so powerfully and just fades away at the end. So I usually just start it over and listen again! Loud Love makes my emotions rush everytime I hear it. Other songs can affect me the same way (another favorite of mine on LTL is Uncovered) but not like Loud Love, which pulls at something inside me. I didn't mean to make this so creatively descriptive, but I'm hoping that someone out there who hasn't heard it the same way will listen again and discover this great feeling. I'd just like to add this strange occurrence: The boyfriend I mentioned before always seemed to be listening to Louder Than Love in his car when he wrecked. This happened 2 or 3 times before he swore off listening to Soundgarden when in a moving vehicle. A short time after that, I was fascinated when I saw the Loud Love video for the first time--and the car crash scenes! Kelly I need to let Kelly H. know I got the book-Thanks!! By the way, that picture you liked is on Seth's site. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 14 Aug 1998 13:52:50 EDT From: Matt Hammons Subject: Re: DotU Tour Recordings, Matt Meets the Lemon In a message dated 8/13/98 11:45:19 PM Pacific Daylight Time, the_cat17@JUNO.COM writes: << One other (unrelated) thing I remember from the chats is one person asking which Soundgarden song Matt hated playing to the most, and Matt said Rusty Cage. He did, however, say his favorite was "Nothing To Say". On a related not has anyone ever noticed the similarity of the drum fills in both "Nothing To Say" and "Searching With my Good Eye Closed?" Matt ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 14 Aug 1998 14:57:14 EDT From: Rachel Potter Subject: bimh interp This is from Dave: k...here goes. This is my first full song interp and I want all people who want to comment on it send me an e-mail @ cosh@golden.net. Follow me into the desert As thirsty as you are. *** Chris is commenting on how the lure of drinking is very strong and lures him even when the thirst for drinking is not there. Crack a smile and cut your mouth And drown in alcohol ***Now the alcohol is making him happy, less depressed, but he knows he is abusing himself, hence the "cut your mouth". And eventually he becomes drunk. Cause down beneath the truth is lying Beneath the riverbed ***He is in a drunken state, all confused, paranoid and wondering if all the things people tell him are true. The alcohol is the cause of this state. So quench yourself and drink the water That flows below her head ***He resolves to stop all this confusion by plunging himself deeper into alcohol. On no there she goes Out in the sunshine the sun is mine *** Everyone experineces the euphoria that alcohol comes with and Chris is describing what he is seeing through is eyes. I shot my love today would you cry for me I lost my head again would you lie for me. I left her in the sand just a burden in my hand I lost my head again would you cry for me. ***Chris has done things under the influence of alcohol that he regrets and asks now for forgiveness. Close your eyes and bow your head I need a little sympathy *** The drinking is over and now Chris seems to pray for forgiveness, adding to the chorus of the song. Cause fear is strong and love's for everone Who isn't me ***He is fearful of the outside world, what they think of him now that he is a drunkerd. So kill yourself and kill yourself And kill everything you love ***He seems to be letting go now, wanting to leave his old life behind And if you can live you can fall to pieces And suffer with my ghost ***Now he is commenting to people that if they judge him as a drunk, they can do so, but that was his past. He wants people to judge him as he is right now. Just a burden in my hand Just an anchor on my heart Just a turmour in my head And I'm in the dark ***Chris is describing metaphorically what is alcohol to him now, The "In the dark" signals the end of (life? alcohol? drinking?) Thanks. Dave ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 14 Aug 1998 17:08:13 PDT From: Star Pancake Subject: Mind boggling trance inducers Hey all, I got a response from CDnow. They said they'd forward the complaint to the department that handles the bio, so hopefully it'll get straightened out. As for this long ass yet extremely interesting "power song" thread, I'd have to cast my vote as a tie for three songs: SWMGEC, for the utter hopelessness the vocals and guitar riffs portray, Zero Chance, for the emotion, and Tighter & Tighter for its mysteriousness and heaviness. Most SG songs are very powerful, especially a lot of the older stuff (UMOK comes to mind), but these three really trigger something in me, and can really get to me when I'm in the right state of mind. ;) Laters, pUnKy ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 14 Aug 1998 22:39:52 EDT From: Kathleen Burrows Subject: this is the land of broken dreams... hey kiddies. i would like to thank all (even though was only a few) who emailed me bak on my "shoot me in the foot" post. it means a lot what you said folks... glad my post helped you see something if it did... ANYwhoski... i know EXACTLY how Kelly feels. Man... I've been there a few times... and it's fukin weird. It's like a screwed version of deja voo (can't spell worth a shirt). But man... yeah, I think I was just another loser who discovered SG, when Black Hole Sun came out, but not entirely... My TRUE discovery of SG, was when I saw the Burden In My Hand video. Sweet mother of pearl... whatta trip. It wasn't EXTRODINARY... ya know?? But it was like... "Oh dennis... this is screwy... I like it!!" Man, and every so often, I get BIMH video withdrawls... that is my FAVORITE video of all time. Like rite now, I'm listening to BIMH, and I can remember the video!! Man... LOL, except for some parts... like, my loser ass coulda sworn that matt kiked the fish, but some of you SOMMSters reminded me who did... And speak of the devil, I have yet ANOTHER question about the video: on that funkaton trailer towards the end of the video-- doesnt it say: "this is the land of broken dreams" on it?? prtty sure it did... but then again, i havent seen the video in more than a year... damn... chat yall up later!! adios and keep on truckin!! peace, love, hope, faith, soup and s o u n d g a r d e n always groovy, kathleen : )) ------------------------------ End of SOMMS Digest - 14 Aug 1998 to 15 Aug 1998 ************************************************
