I am finding out the contacts on how to get these. Do you all want to split whatever cost it would cost me to get these copies of the boot, and to transfer them onto CD for everyone, if you want one? I think it would be a good memonto along with all of the pictures, besides they would be awsome CD's, because of the awsome performances. More info in the next few days! -Nick ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 25 Jul 1998 02:06:15 EDT From: Brian Coursen Subject: Oasis and..........? All i've been listening to lately, to soothe my unnerving week and to act as the neosporen under a band-aid the size of the earth practically, have been Temple of the Dog and Down on the Upside... and so i've been thinking of this CC solo deal. (when doesn't it pass through my brain?) The music on ToTD and DotU seem to have that same high-emotional quality to them, they are actually quite close albums under strong scrutiny I think. And seeing as how chris had so much lyircal and musical input in this album (not that he doesn't usually, but his name shows up on the more non-SG songs [term used loosely, don't flame please] such as "switch opens" and "boot camp" and the "applebite" lyrics) i do believe that if/when Chris gets a solo album out... it'll be a maturing of songwriting that will resemble these two albums, then possibly further into the "boot camp" psychadelia, or the "all night thing" or "call me a dog" bluesy-crooning, which i think would be beautiful and underrated and truly a gem. I think it'll be a very big softening of chris, i really think he'll not have many harder songs, i'd be surprised to hear something harder than say "let me drown." And i'm damned grateful, and i'd like this to be true. i think chris has seen a lot of tragedy in his life, and at 34 may finally be making a lot more sense of it... May finally be able to put it all into prespective, into his rearviewmirrior of revelations and clarity and then have it breath life into the songs he's written over the years that aren't/weren't Soundgarden enough.... This could be an album that will shock the pants off of even us with it's emotional magnitude...and dammit i can't wait. And another thing, this line from "black hole sun" hit me close to home today while i was playing the song on my guitar and singing: "times are gone for honest men, and sometimes far too long for snakes..." The cliched phrase "only the good die young" comes to mind now (as i lost a beautiful human to suicide this week)... Life is short for those who should be around forever. life may not be so fair to them, they leave us early, empty, helpless, wanting and begging for more of them: the honest men, the beautiful ones, those people you don't even have to talk to more than three times to feel like you've known them for years.... And then for the snakes, the criminals who kill and kill and are of the Charles Manson sort who get fucking life in prison to live in virtual luxuray, thos bastards that killed your mind and heart and soul throughout life.... and THEY get to live longer than someone so beautiful and good... that's not fair, that's not humane, that's not the way it should be. Only the good die young? not a therom proven by mathematical science and not one that i think *could* be proven by it, but one that seems to sit quite well with me. it's one that i've begun to realize ever so slowly just might be about 60-70% true... And that's god-awful depressing. It's like this: there's all these bands that write their depressing songs, (the one i'll use is one i do like, Stabbing Westward) about love and the opposite sex and *having* sex and all this bullshit and don't stray from that one lame ass topic... it's like, who are you to do nothing but dwell on that? granted, i dwell on it, so does everyone, but for chrissakes don't write 3 albums worth on it. This is why i truly ADORE soundgarden and cornell, they wrote about things that made sense, things that make life life, not just sex or drugs or some woman they once dated. it's stupid, it's self-pitying and it's self-absorbtion at it's most saturated. (i had a bad run in with SW this week...heheh) Write stuff that matters, don't bitch about an Ex that you never intended to marry anyway or even spend more than a year with, while there are people out there who are crying their guts out, their hearts out, their souls out because someone they cared for up and took himself from us. Make a difference, follow something important. Soundgarden did that. yeah, they have their non-serious, non-life shattering songs (aka "never named" but even that deals with the maturing issue!) their pure ridiculousness 667 throwaways?> but they knew/know life is more than just sex, just fucking, just having a woman to touch. Friends, above everything (except family to most of you) are one of the most important things in life. it's like religion, only not so (can't think of a good word here). So what the hell am i trying to say? Live life, be a beautiful human, love everyone, trust in Chris Cornell to dig this deep in his solo efforts, and don't waste time on frivilous shit. you'll lose something that matters so quickly you won't ever recover... if you've listened thanks. if i made any sense to you, any of you, even ONE.... that's a compliment that i cannot even begin to thank you for. mind riot "candle's burning yesterday, like somebody's best friend died..." by the way, what's with the not getting a copy of your own post deal? it makes me think it didn't go through... _____________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail. Gosh, if only there "were" a heaven! Oh well, I guess I'd settle just to have Chris, Matt, Kim & Ben/Hiro back Lance...... Actually, we've already seen the dream band. It was a little gig that consisted of Chris Cornell, Matt Cameron, Stone Gossard, Mike McCready, and Jeff Ament called Temple of the Dog. Unofortunately, a grouping like this happens once in a millineum. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 25 Jul 1998 09:15:16 PDT From: The Koggle Subject: Re: Dream Band crapola Hey Sommsters i don't know about anyone else but I am getting really frustrated with the amount of stupidity going on on the list lately.. but then maybe it's just me.. I just want to let some of you know that you CAN send private emails to people on the list.. and you DON'T have to think really hard and come up with some cool info just so you can write to the list every day.. take it easy.. we have the ability to think faster than we speak (type?) so we can think twice.. it comes in handy. >If you have like some >"Perfect dream band" and it doesn't include All of the members of Soundgarden, >well then you ain't a true SG fan, It wasn't Just Chris's band..... I think you have missed the point of the 'dream bands'. It has nothing to do with SG anymore because they don't exist as a band. We all know that Chris is heading off on his own and he needs a band to back him up. If it were Kim who was deciding to unleash his vocal talents and front his own act, I am guessing the 'dream band' posts would still exist. Yet, strange as it may seem, it is more realistic to fantasise about a band behind the former singer of Soundgarden. Like, he already knows how to do it and everything.. hehe >And Just cause Chris is OOOW SO VERY >FINE, don't mean he has to take all the attention. What, you don't think Matt has a cute smile? >Don't take me wrong though, I love the attention that Chris >is getting, but if he wanted a really good/GREAT band, He would have stayed >with Soundgarden.........along with the rest of them. Okay, this is sort of confusing. Soundgarden didn't break up BECAUSE Chris wanted to go solo. He just happens to want to continue to play, and he happens to be a singer. I'm sure he would much rather play with the guys he's played with for years, but that is not possible.. if it was, they wouldn't have broken up and we wouldn't even be contemplating a new band for Chris!! AHHH!! Koggle ps. I know this has been done before but I also know that my tastes and favorites are always changing so I am curious about the favorite bands the rest of you have besides soundgarden. >> Everyone realizes that a large mailing list like this is going to feature great diversity among the musical interests of its members. We all love Soundgarden and most of us also appear to enjoy the other Seattle bands. Some of us like punk, heavy metal, funk, ska, progressive rock, folk rock, and so on, and so on. Naturally when discussions between people of different musical interests, there is going to be some arguments. My favorite bands are Soundgarden, first and foremost, Temple of the Dog, Alice In Chains (+ Jerry Cantrell solo), Live, Green Day, and of course my band False Indigo. I also listen to a lot of Pearl Jam, Creed, Tool, Led Zeppelin, Screaming Trees, Foo Fighters, Everclear, Soul Asylum, Hendrix, Mountain, CCR, Pink Floyd, Straight On Red, Release, The Nixons, Days of the New, Weezer, and the Offspring among others. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 25 Jul 1998 15:27:53 EDT From: Denis Farinha Subject: Re: say hello 2 heaven With the upcoming release of Chris Cornell's new album this October, I have to say that I'm very excited as I'm sure everyone else on this list is. Chris is definately one of the most talented artists in the music industry; I mean not only can this guy sing like a god, but he can play a variety of musical instruments(guitar, bass, piano, harmonica, banjo, mandolin, drums, etc.), as well. I've also been pondering what type of an album it will be. Chris is capable of so many different styles ranging from hard rock, alternative, blues, metal, classical(as heard in Ave Maria) to name several, so it should be interesting to HEAR what he does next. Hopefully it will be a blend of all his musical styles. I'd love to have a song like Birth Ritual done again(how does he do that thing with his voice at the end of the song anyway?) or on the other hand it would be great to hear a song like Times of Trouble or New Damage. Only time will tell. Hit Parader magazine describes the new album as "startling" and "cutting edge rock and roll" which sounds pretty damn good to me! I also agree that Chris writes some pretty thought provoking lyrics as well, like in the song Limo Wreck for example, a song that takes a closer look at "decadence" and "this strange perception that you're so high on the social or political ladder that you're somehow beyond" the little things that other people that don't make as much money as you do or don't where expensive suits all the time go through. This feeling that you're "not susceptible to mortality".(quotes taken from Chris in Request magazine) It's kinda funny to look at a song like that and then hear some crap like mmmbop(from hanson) or something. Anyway, have a good one sommites! P.S. Check out the new Hit Parader article on Chris! ~later~ ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 25 Jul 1998 14:41:36 PDT From: kelly hendricks Subject: Total Request...
