I knwo I havent posted in a while but I am here. I just got home from the PJ show in St. Louis and Matt took the house down. That may be a biased opinion, but I was talking to some diehard PJ fans and they even said that Matt was the best drummer that they had ever heard play w/ them. Personally I wouldnt mind if Matt stayed with them on a more permanent basis..... I did think your original post was all of the above, and I (for one, I obviously can't speak for others) also understand and accept your explanation/apology. Surely you can understand how insensitive it is to repeat personal information about couple who are clearly protective of their privacy? If and when a story breaks or someone is able to provide personal knowledge in a non-anonymous fashion, it's still a little insensitive but perhaps justified. Anonymous rumors just don't hold much water because the author/progenitor of the rumor will not be held responsible for the consequences of inaccuracies. > ______________________________ Reply Separator _______________________________ __ William Flanders wrote: > give it a try... Mike makes an interesting point. Does one chose one's own culture? In any case, I am amazed that an English speaking person is not aware that Romeo and Juliet existed as a stage play (Shakespeare) long before it became a "popular movie." It's not the dislike of Shakespeare and the Beatles that I find amazing, it's the lack of familiarity. I know this is only marginally Soundgarden related, so here's my tie-in. I swear I can hear wisps and strains of Beatles tunes embedded in many Soundgarden songs; especially in Kim's guitar work. I don't like all Beatles songs. Yeah, some of them are marginal. But some of them are reminiscent and prescient of the genius to be found in some Soundgarden songs. Well, that's my opinion, anyway. l8r Tiffany ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 3 Jul 1998 04:08:51 EDT From: Nick Boos Subject: SHUT UP ABOUT THE BEATLES OK US SOMMSTERS THAT ARE CORE ARE GETTING SICK AND TIRED OF ALL THE BEATLES SHIT ON SOMMS RIGHT NOW. Some of you might rememebr that long babble i did about Like Suicide, oh, a good 6 months or so ago..... that was the last time a song had entered my brain with the intent to make me cry. tonight (early morning? whatever) another song has decided to do that, thanks to Mr Cornell and his solo project. yeah, it's sunshower and for those of you who don't give a fuck and would rather argue about the goddamn beatles, then leave this post the hell alone. let me do a quickie outline for you who care, i'm moving from Philadelphia to Atlanta around August 15th. I was told this was happening around April 15th. I've been in denial ever since, because i've lived around phila all my life, i know this place like the back of my hand. i'm finally old enough to have found out who my real friends really are and to have built a sort of circle, a sort of homestead here. so this is not good news, this move. and as i see the calender glaring July at me, laughing, smirking, spitting it's bile at me while i pretend to think that this room i sleep in everynight will be the room i sleep in on September 14, on December 23, on February 2nd..... I'm an idiot, and tonight i've come to the realization that it's happening. that i'm moving. so i lay in bed, 4am and have to be at work at 9:30am...can't sleep for the tears, for the thoughts, for the final recognition of the idea i've pushed out of my head for four months. so i can't do anything but cry, and Sunshower has become my background, my kind of Crutch. "when you find your way and you see it disappear," that's for damn sure....what do you do when you're all in pain and the rain comes down? what in hell do you do? so i listen to chris, i listen to him, i almost try to make myself believe that he's right, that someday it'll be better. maybe i'll like the south more that i do (i have family there, i'm not big fan of that part of the country...sorry) maybe it'll take my whole world turning upside down to create something better, something new, a flower. maybe. and maybe i'll find a sunshower to bloom under, but all i can do is hope and tell myself "it's alright" while crying out the rest of the lines. i cry a lot, but not like this. this is hell. moving is not good. :-) i haven't shed a tear about this situation since i found out, but i think it's all going to come crashing down on me very soon. the sight of my mom taping up boxes of dishes and the real estate calling for my parents to come over and sign the papers that make the house belong to someone else..... that's a tough one to ignore and think is "alright." if you've cared, thank you for listening. i'm not out for your pity, i'm just out for your ears. i hope some of you care, and maybe one or two of you know how i feel. BUTT........Now for MY thoughts on this stupid-ass Beatles bullshit-- I am *ashamed* at what goes on in this place anymore. fighting about Helter Skelter, which yes, i do think should be common knowledge for a music fan, and then filling up everyone's boxes with one lined posts that say "and i HATE the beatles!" JESUS fucking CHRIST you guys! what the hell is wrong with everyone!! yeah, so nothing's really going on in SG world beside matt drumming for PJ, but that's no excuse to post a hundred times a day about how the beatles should or should not be common knowledge and why you hate them cause your parents like them. it's fucking stupid. and i keep from yelling like this because i know no one here cares anymore, not even seth. and that's sad, it's sad that this great community has dwindled down to this...and it sad that the admin couldn't give a shit cause he knows no one will listen and the ones that do read his post will then post lengthy and slopply apologies to the list as if that makes it all better. whatever. how's that for a bipolar post, eh jen? mind riot _____________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail. Sitting here watching the Prodigy on RAGE, an Australian music program (Aussies?) I realised that apart from their brilliant music, something I really admire about Soundgarden is their maturity re: publicity in music. Nothing whatsoever as I recall has ever been done by the band to gain attention other than playing their music, which I believe deserves a whole lot of respect. A heap of other bands at the moment -such as the aforementioned- rely somewhat on stunt-pulling to attain a fanbase. (Please, any flaming to be done can be sent directly to me -and I actually don't mind the Prodigy) What am I saying? I have never known a member of Soundgarden to appear overtly brash or attention-seeking in an interview for the sake of publicity. There is no token headline-grabbing member of Soundgarden -they are known for their music, not their attitudes. Just makes me appreciate what a great thing we've come across. Lily. ------------------------------------- '...One last sin before I'm dead...' ------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 3 Jul 1998 13:41:33 -0400 From: jenny grover Subject: the heart of the issue I have read these Beatles posts with some interest, not because I care if any of you like the Beatles or not. No one is saying anyone *has* to like anything. What really struck me were some of the attitudes that were expressed along the lines of "why should I bother learning about something that's not relevant to my life right now." That is a disgusting excuse to try to cover up lazy thinking. If you listen to the Beatles and they bore you, fine. The Gettysburg Address bores me. At least I know what it is and why it's important. To say that the only relevant things are the ones you choose to encounter on an everyday basis is ignorant and breeds ignorance. Everything that is happening now or has happened before has some bearing on other events, and these chains of events in some way eventually effect you, whether you know it or not. It is impossible to fully understand what your lifestyle means if you don't know where it came from. And yes, it would be very hard to understand from a modern point of view looking back why the Beatles rose to such prominence and popularity, unless you have a knowledge of what the world was like then. It is all interconnected. Obviously you can't know everything about everything, but you should want to know a lot about a lot of things, and that includes exposing yourself to things you might not think you're interested in. If you're looking for Soundgarden content here, think about this: neither Chris nor Ben finished school (although Chris has expressed regrets over this and Ben made it most of the way), but neither of them has ever stopped educating themselves. One has only to read or listen to their interviews to see that they have a good grasp of a lot of issues, both current and past, music related and not. Ignorance and laziness are a huge component of the social problems we have in this country today. No, listening to the Beatles won't solve any global problems, but changing your attitude toward learning might. Pittman" Subject: SG Influences There are some Beatles songs that I do like, but it seems that all of their albums only have one or maybe two songs on it I like. However, I really don't care about their influence to Soundgarden. If you look at it in a certain way... everything that any musician hears probably influences them in some way...so any band or song that they have ever heard has probably somehow shown up in their music. I also think that it's ridiculous to judge someone because of who they like or dislike. I'm sure every one of us has some band/album/song that we really like that most of our friends would hate...would you like them to mock you because of it? I think that everyone here has been quite ugly about the whole Beatles/Soundgarden thing. Why? Does it solve anything? Does it make anyone happy? What is so important that you have to PROVE your view to someone???? Are we really that bored to sink to the petty lows that I'm seeing? I joined this list to hear stuff about Soundgarden..sometimes other things get thrown in here that I appreciate hearing about also. What I did NOT join this list for is the whining, griping, flaming, and whatever other petty crap you can think of. If someone doesn't like what someone else has to say, then state YOUR view...don't give them a load of shit for expressing themselves. Ok, enough rambling. Hopefully most of the other people on this list who are sick of this stuff feel spoken for. My apologies for rambling so. They've only been around for a couple of years, but they do lots of interviews with artists and actors. They have music reviews and all kinds of cool stuff. They cost about $30 a year I think....money well spent. I did backorder the issue with Soundgarden, and if anyone wants it they can go to www.launchcdrom.com and order backissue #8. I think it costs about $7 and it comes with a bonus cd with 18 tracks on it. I don't think it's very good though.
