I have various color photos that an old friend had sent to me from the fanzine "SYZYGY". They were always accurate in their writings and extremely informative. You can also see photo's of the siblings in their fanzine. The only problem, is that I am not sure if they are still in publication. I sent money for a yearly subscription, and never recieved any for the '97 year. Maybe they still sell back issues, you'd find those photo's there. Their websites at "http://www.sgi.net/syzygy"...I'm not sure if you can still get through, cause it's linked onto Seth's homepage. P&L XaNa ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 21 Jun 1998 20:46:19 -0400 From: Deborah Servey Subject: cornell sibs and syzygy Hey fellow listers! If you've been reading everyone's posts, you may have noticed a zine called SYZYGY being mentioned a couple times--thanks for the way too late plug, Gabrielle and Anna! If you've been on this list las long as I have, which is 3 years, you may recall at one time I used to talk about the zine b/c I was one of the co-editors and it covered the Seattle music scene w/ info and news on Sg, PJ, AIC as well as a plethora of unsigned bands, including Peter Cornell's Inflatable Soule. Seth, our own dear list master gave me his blessings to talk about it. A few people got interested but for the most part any news I posted to the list was ignored, which never made any sense to me b/c this stuff was coming from Silver Management and others. It upset me at the time that people were more interested in discussing rumors and speculations, but being new to the list at that time, I didn't realize that was the whole bent of the list. We did the zine for a full 2 years before we finally just burned out. Plain and simple burn out ended what was once a fun venture--it was too difficult being the only regular writers as well as lay out editors, and paying for it from our own pockets. It got to be too difficult and nerve wracking to go after articles from people who had offered to do them for us, including a member of Inflatable Soule. We never had enough subscribers to cover all costs, we never hit the magic number of 100 which I had calculated might pay for the thing. So, sadly, in early 1997, when an issue was seriously overdue and no one asked what was wrong or where was the zine, we decided no one cared and called it quits. Touching to find out in retrospect that a couple readers knew our info was good as well as accurate, nice to know someone actually liked what we did, besides the bands themselves. (We gave out more freebies to bands than we had paying readers, both subs and those wanting a sample copy.) Yes, there were photos of Inflatable Soule and lots of articles on them b/c they were our favorite Seattle band. There was an interview w/ our friend Karen Cornell, there was stuff from the pen of Jeff Gilbert, a jpournalist friend of Kim Thayil's. Do we still have back issues as Anna suggested?? Well, that's a good question and one I can't answer right at this moment. As some of you may recall, we moved, and I'm uncertain as to what if anything Lin (the other editor) did w/ any back issues we may have had. Some of our issues sold out totally, and running more is impossible as I threw out all masters in the move. Seemed no one was interested, why should I hang on to them. What I do have is photos, taken for the express purpose of the zine. I do not have a scanner here at home, and my work place w/ 2 scanners is being torn apart this summer for work, so I'll have to see if I can find anyone w/ a scanner to help me w/ one option I've come up with. We're going to Europe--leaving tomorrow June 22 and returning July 3. Any comments, questions or responses will go unanswered until that time, so dear list, be patient as you always were when I was running my "moving sales"! (and I may even have some stuff to get rid of one of these days...) Thanks for the ear, see you on July 3. A bientot, mes amis! debs ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 21 Jun 1998 19:56:51 -0500 From: HIV Baby Subject: MiniDisc Trades Just out of curiosity, are there any SOMMSters out there with MiniDisc players/recorders that would be willing to trade some B-sides on disc? Email me privately if you're interested, and maybe we can get something going! ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 22 Jun 1998 00:07:18 EDT From: Tammy Read Subject: Re: Sunshower Single << Secondly, Just reading comments on the list, who gives a fuck about Chris' family? I mean, why do you need that information? For stalking? You know you're becoming a little too obssesive when you start flaming people over where your fave singer is the 3rd oldest or youngest sibling in his family. Please stop it. >> Nobody NEEDS to know anything. But lately, what is there to talk about? We're all patiently waiting for Chris to get his album out and or the rest of the men to do something. There is no harm in people interested in knowing anything about his siblings and or where he stands in his family (Meaning if he is the Bobby of the family). And we must care about his family if we're asking questions about them. But c'mon, getting information on his family for stalking?? It's not like any of us asked how many times Chris has sex with his wife, THAT'S when you start getting on peoples cases about getting too obsessive. But knowing tid bits about his family is harmless. So sorry for being interested in the rest of his family, lets put the spot light back on Chris. And when you state your opinion, that doesn't automatically mean you're flaming someone. I do understand that most of the time sarcasm sticks out, but unless you can "hear the tone" in people's letters, how do you know the difference? My 10 cents (I find it to be worth more than 2) Tammy BTW, thanks for the information on the Sunshower single. ------------------------------ End of SOMMS Digest - 21 Jun 1998 to 22 Jun 1998 ************************************************
