And as for the guy dancing around, he is not in the band. He just helps them out and he no longer tours with them. I saw them today at a local record store and they kicked ass as they always do. I would like Soundgarden for introducing me to the Rocket From The Crypt. I live in San Diego, where the band is from, and had only heard the name mentioned before the show. After seeing them live I have liked the band ever since. On of the greatest bands from San Diego. -- -AS mailto:asnod@home.com http://www.csusm.edu/public/guests/asnod/ ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 3 Jun 1998 12:20:55 +0200 From: Guillaume PETETIN Subject: soundgarden and..........lsd. > Subject: soundgarden and..........lsd. > To: SOMMS@MITVMA.MIT.EDU > > we all enjoy sg in our own special way, some listen while working out, some > listen while driving, some listen while.....you get the point. > i was just curious, has anyone had a sg/lsd experience? > ive herd that music can take on many different "appearences" while under the > influence of music. > so im curious if anyone on the list has enjoyed or not enjoyed sg while under > the influence of such drugs...... if so, id like to hear you story in detail. > AND IM SURE THE REST OF THE LIST WOULD NOT!!!! Now for some real time interp! In fact I will expose you my impression about the meaning of the song and only then will I read again the lyrics and see what happens!! What's more it's been a long time since I listened to BHS. So for me this is a summer song. Don't misunderstand me, not a malibu beach bimbo hymn. This is a solar song, as the titles hints, but it goes more for the patent storm. The heavy moist summer, the tension and natural rage that lurks, hides and waits... > >> " In my eyes / Indisposed / In disguise / As no one knows " For me the snake is the "storm", the tension, pain, grief, guilt kept in secret, far from the eyes of the outside world but that you're breeding even though (in fact because!) you don't release it. At first you're ashamed, maybe, you think you can control yourself, but you come to liking it, or even indulge in self pity. This sentence is the situation where one is about to come to this. > >> " Hides the face / Lies the snake / The sun / In my disgrace " But can you hide your real feeling or even your real nature exposed in sunlight?? > >>" Boiling heat / Summer stench / Neath the black / The sky looks > >dead / Call my name / Through the cream / And I'll hear you / >Scream > again" So see the summer with these eyes... The sky looks dead... As you're torn apart with your feelings your hopes and illusions clash. That's why the sky should look dead. And we're all living under the sky, the secret desire for the storm and destruction, the catharsis that maybe will clear the things out (even if it means clearing the things out of this earth). The cream... Distant screams through cotons. not real. Distance from the world, he can't tell memories, fantasies or reality but violence comes. > >>" Black hole sun / Won't you come /And wash away the rain / Black > >hole sun / Won't you come / Won't you come" Go away, heavy sun, judging sun that others seem to enjoy. And destroy these stupid people that think they're happy. But they don't know do they? They have not suffered like I have; they don't know what I know. Depression... Black hole sun, anti-sun... > >>" Stuttering / Cold and damp / Steal the warm wind / Tired friend / > >>Times are gone / For honest men / And sometimes Far too long / For > snakes" The warmth, the "good" warmth that people associate with summer, indolence and friendship, or just simple kindness. It's gone now, and there's just the sun, so hot that nothing human can live under, an unbearable thirst - an endless quest for "water"? - that leaves no place for the honest -civilized- men, and leaves mere beasts. And of course, our friend the snake, the biblical figure. (Chris's lyrics tend to reproduce lots of biblical allusions, and not talking about JCP) > >>" In my shoes / A walking sleep / And my youth / I pray to keep / > >>Heaven send / Hell away / No one sings / Like you Anymore" His feet are moving without him. He's no longer acting conciously, he's passive, his only action his regret for innocence. the lost songs, the songs that help you smile and go to sleep happy and complete. But what to do?? > >>" Hang my head / Drown my fear / Till you all just / Disappear" This comes after the longer and more violent chorus and the syncopated break, and the nervous solo... Visions of destruction. Not much sounds or volume Behind all these chaotic emotions he is a lost child, hiding while the violence takes the reins... If I close my eyes, maybe when I open them again everything will be the same again. Well I think I did a good job :). In fact This song really is about loss too... symbolic loss of something someone... physical or emotionnal... When it comes to say why he wrote this song I don't think we can tell (or even he). It's not because we know he lost a very close friend that every sad song should be directly related to it... His pain and wounds are not much more in MTV news than ours. Of course you can't listen to a song like say hello 2 heaven or call me a dog without thinking about it... Oh well you can, but not that often. I'll check the lyrics of SG songs again, but it seems to me that a theme about season can be found (not to mention the song itself), as well as for the moon/sun and colors that go with it. CC's lyrics relate hope to autumn in my memories... Maybe will I be back for some interp one day... PIf > More about shame and wishing the world would disappear. We were all at the beach at night, we were renting at the beach, and i was lying on my back with my eyes closed listening to an SG tape...i cant even begin to describe the visuals i was eperiencing, and while i was in my own trip, one of the guys was playing with the sand...when i opened my eyes, he had enclosed me in a circle i was so gone that i literally thought i was in a circle and couldnt get out...it took about 30 minutes to get me out of the circle!...IT WAS AN AWESOME TRIP! Someone may prove me wrong, but offering it for cash to someone who otherwise wouldn't be able to get it, let alone any SG vinyl purely due to the area they live in, would be a nice gesture. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 3 Jun 1998 16:06:41 PDT From: Star Pancake Subject: RFTC Heres the addy for the RFTC mailing list: http://www.rftc.com/atomjack/index.asp Thank You. pUnKy ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 4 Jun 1998 01:22:08 +0200 From: gabba gabba hey Subject: Re: RFTC --------------C85741D85A3E146AD8CADF1E Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Star Pancake wrote: > Heres the addy for the RFTC mailing list: > > http://www.rftc.com/atomjack/index.asp > > Thank You. > > pUnKy > > are there many sommsters on atomjack? --------------C85741D85A3E146AD8CADF1E Content-Type: text/html; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit

Somms i really hard to come by and alot of people (such as myself) would really like to have it, some people sold it to the first person to answer their letter, others did a draw, and thats what they should do, sell it for the price they got it for to a REAL fan, this is what capitalism does to people, makes everyone greedy and selfish....people need some self disipline...i suggest taking up budhism... and maybe we could get rid of this stupid little "democracy" and all this greed..... im sure soundgarden would appreciate such a rare item going to a real fan too... they probably wouldint appreciate your greed either... just thinkin, Jill ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ End of SOMMS Digest - 3 Jun 1998 to 4 Jun 1998 **********************************************
