All of you Seattle Sommsters/People Travelling to Seattle to see Pearl Jam. I just got word from John McBain that Wellwater Conspiracy will be opening for Pearl Jam on July 21st at the Seattle Center! Just pray that he's not misinforming us like he did about the title of the upcoming Super Electro 7".... Anyway, seeing as I already have it, i may be willing to swap it for something I don't have, but if no-one's got anything i want (check out my wantlist: http://www.ecr.mu.oz.au/~scronk/want.html) then I will put it on ebay. Cheers! You wrote alot about the song being about grief, and I agree (yes, I do think Chris still writes about Andy) but after reading your interp I also think he feels guilty about something. Maybe he thought he could "save" his friend, or maybe he did something else he feels guilty about that he was never able to resolve because Andy died. >> " In my eyes / Indisposed / In disguise / As no one knows " >==I'm far off in another place, busy, a place that nobody really >gives a flying fuck about nor would they have any reason to know why I'm there. >> " Hides the face / Lies the snake / The sun / In my disgrace " >==He's hiding, slithering around & avoiding the sunlight...someone >has hurt >him & he is rather dissapointed in that individual. I think this is more subtle - he is in deep pain, but is hiding it. "Hides the face, Lies the snake" he seems to be describing himself as a snake, and what do you think when you think of someone being a snake. Its like he feels ashamed of something *he's* done that hurt the *other* person, rather than them hurting him. >>" Boiling heat / Summer stench / Neath the black / The sky looks >dead / Call my name / Through the cream / And I'll hear you / >Scream again" >==It's hot outside, stiffling hot...don't know about ya'll, but in >March it gets pretty spicy outside. We all know what happened in >March 1990 don't we? This sounds like deep depression to me. And since summer follows spring, it would follow that he would be grieving - since they were on tour and couldn't really grieve right after it happened. "Neath the black, the sky looks dead" - His world is in darkness, even what usually was beautiful looks dead. The Cream could also be his depression, being lost in his head - you know how sometimes your head feels like its stuffed with something and you just can't think? And maybe the screaming he's looking to hear has something to do with what he's feeling guilty about. Maybe an argument where there was screaming? >>" Black hole sun / Won't you come /And wash away the rain / Black >hole sun / Won't you come / Won't you come" >he's wishing the whole world would just die. I like this, and I agree. >>" Stuttering / Cold and damp / Steal the warm wind / Tired friend / >>Times are gone / For honest men / And sometimes Far too long / For snakes" I don't think this has anything to do with heroin. I think the stuttering and cold are how he's feeling because his friend stole the warm wind by dying. >He was a good guy, but now he's gone and now the grieving individual >(the slithering snake from the beginning) is all alone & fears the >rest of his life will take forever. My idea is real close to this, but alittle different. Sort of an "only the good die young" kind of thing, yes. But again he describes himself as a snake, so maybe his life will drag because not only does he have to live it without his friend, but he also has to endure the pain of this secret he has about whatever he did that he feels guilty about. >>" In my shoes / A walking sleep / And my youth / I pray to keep / >>Heaven send / Hell away / No one sings / Like you Anymore" >==He wants this all to be a dream. All he has now is memories & he wishes he >could just relive them over & over for eternity. He wants his >friend to come back from Heaven & relieve this Hell he's feeling. And the walking sleep is another good description of depression. >>" Hang my head / Drown my fear / Till you all just / Disappear" >==He's going to wallow & live in his own world until the black hole comes to >suck up everything & take everyone away. More about shame and wishing the world would disappear. I'm glad to be able to really think about this song. The video practically ruined it for me, because I couldn't even listen to it without seeing the video, which I hated! Then I heard him do it acoustic and I heard the sadness and started to really listen. It really is a beautiful song. And Matt wrote: >DUDE!! "Cream", "Snake", "Hole", "Hear you scream again," "Won't >you come", >Put your dirty little minds to work, this one's not that hard. I must admit I have thought of that too ;) Kathie -- Come visit our Web Page: http://www.iols.net/oponfam ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 2 Jun 1998 14:29:22 -0600 From: Kathie Subject: Re: spugg in a rugg >>x (~ yuky. didnt ben say some crap about kids over analyzing the songs?? >So we'll leave Ben's songs alone. It is a soft song with a slow tempo. Last Sunday, NBC broadcasted game 7 of teh NBA eastern conference finals in which the Bulls played teh Pacers. During the little intro that NBC has in their NBA games, NBC played Spoonman as they showed scenes from previous games in the series. Also, a few minutes later, while showing scenes of Reggie Miller, Larry Bird, and Michael Jordan in the series, NBC played the intro to My Wave. Obviously someone who works for NBC's sound production is a fan of Soundgarden neither Spoonman nor My Wave are "hot" songs right now and it isn't like Soundgarden has any deal with NBC. Considering that the members of Soundgarden are basketball fans, they probably watching the game. It must have felt wierd for them when they heard their own music in the intro of such a big game. I know for a fact that Eddie Vedder has been hanging around with Dennis Rodman lately and was even shooting hoops with him in the Bulls practice arena in Chicago. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 2 Jun 1998 19:47:23 -0500 From: "The one who will be lost. . ." You know what would REALLY be nice? If you didn't use this posession of yours to make money, but instead offered it to a die-hard Soundgarden fan who just happens to have nothing to swap with. But no. We have to profit off of everything, don't we? If no one has anything that you want, why don't you just offer it to someone on the list and make them pay for shipping? Seeing as many people on here are DYING for SOMMS *winks at Arden* and would put it to good use, rather than the people on ebay who may just buy it PURELY for the collecter's value, or worse, to sell it at an even higher price to some unsuspecting young fan. . . . wouldn't it make more sense, altruistically at least, to offer it to people here even if no one has something to trade with? -Ugly Truth who is upset at the commercialism of everything > ---------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 2 Jun 1998 20:11:56 EDT From: Kevin Chang Subject: Re: RFTC... Yeah, about Rocket From The Crypt, you should have seen Chicago's reaction to them! Almost everybody was either flicking them off, booing, or doing both. This was on the 9th; I'm not sure what happened on the next night. Personally, I didn't think they were too bad, but all silver suits and a guy that did nothing but dance on stage seemed kinda strange to me (and Tenderlion's lead singer flicking shit outta his stomach was strange, too). A week later, I found out about this list and how people at that very show I went to got to meet the band... Kevin > Rocket From The Crypt's new release "RFTC" is being released tomorrow, > June 2nd. That's just a loose recollection coming from my foggy brain. Anybody recognize it & actually know where it came from & the exact quote? It would explain why Chris may feel guilty, maybe he regrets his choice not to interfere when he had the chance.
