You know, the strangest thing has been happening. Amidst all this incessant bickering and what not, it seems that a bunch (well, at least 2 others that i know of) Sommsters have gotten these bizarre "confirm somms" messages to reply to within 7 days or we'll be permanantly removed from the list, or something of that sort, and have to Re-sub. Huh? As Koggle said, since when does membership to Somms *expire* or anything strange like that? Seth? And anyone else gotten this weird message in their box? From some guy named Bill Hawthorne or something... Just wondering, cause it seems pretty weird, i don't understand why because i've been around on the Listserv-era since it came into effect on 3 different mailing addys and never once before did i get a weird message like that. *shrug* someone help me out if ya can. mind riot _____________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail. Is this thing legit, Seth? ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 12 May 1998 03:40:47 -0400 From: jenny grover Subject: sweeping the floor Just 2 points I want to make: One: > i said, "it's great that fans > want to meet but it's not anything we want to be involved in." > period. Caryn, if this was all you had said, period, you would not have gotten such a negative reaction. Instead you went into a lengthy discourse on why you thought it was unreasonable for people to seek to meet either band, which came out sounding very confrontational, whether you intended it to or not. Two: I think a lot of people on this list are starting to sound like hare-brained conspiracy theorists. If anyone here really would use Pearl Jam or their fans in an underhanded scheme to meet Matt or any other former SG member, then much shame on you! And it annoys me to read what sound like accusations of elitism at the idea of sommsters meeting up in Seattle and wanting to make the most of it. I would hope that sommsters anywhere at any show would feel free to organize a gathering without having to listen to someone whining "if I can't be there then there just shouldn't be a party." What may sound to some like some grand scheme is just a falling together of coincident elements. I was going to be in Seattle that week anyway, concert or no concert. Since it was coincidently when the PJ show would be, I decided to try to get tickets. I consider myself very lucky, but if I didn't have tickets, it would not ruin my trip out there. I plan to meet a number of friends there, sommsters, former sommsters, and people with no connection to somms at all. If there is a somms gathering, I would enjoy being a part of it, but it's not necessary to my enjoyment of my stay there. And I had purchased tickets to a PJ show near where I live well before I heard that Matt would be with them. My interest in seeing them is not dependent on Matt or any other possible special guests being there. What happens happens, and what doesn't doesn't and I intend to have a good time regardless. Live and let live, people. Let's sweep this floor and start again clean. Set a time, place(not necessarily a bar so those under 21 can get in) and sit back and enjoy the spectacle that are Sommsters in a gaggle! It's quite interesting! and you'll have a good time whether Eddie Vedder and Matt stop by with their friend Chris or not! That is correct. One of the features of Listserv 1.8 is forced subscriber renewal. SOMMS memberships are configured to expire one year from your subscribe date, and since the switch to Listserv was made on May 4, 1997, it's been a year since the first batch of people subbed; hence, the renewal notices. Everyone who stays on the list for a year will get one automatically - they're not sent out with any sort of preference. It may seem like a pain in the ass, but I know I've been on lists in the past where I didn't participate at all (no, not this one) but it was just easier to delete the messages than unsub myself. The forced renewal gives people an easy way out, leaving the list populated with only people who are truly interested. -seth/listadmin ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 13 May 1998 08:19:58 +1000 From: Koggle Subject: Re: short and sweet... just like me :) UnknownGrl wrote: > someone please e-mail me and tell me when something about SOUNDGARDEN happenes > on SOMMS, cause right now i'm sick of hearing all this crap. > AAAAUUUUUUUGGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!! > -Rachel yeah and you really help get us back on track eh? Kogg ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 12 May 1998 15:36:13 PDT From: Star Pancake Subject: God forbid another sommsfest post... *sigh* All right. Since I'm the one that started this goddammed thread about sommsfest, I'll clarify myself once and for all: First, I'm sick of seeing people fight about something so ridiculous. Sommsfest, as Arden stated, is going to happen regardless of what people think. Anyone who wants to come? Send Michelle your addy and get all the info. We ARE NOT TRYING TO DUPLICATE THE CHICAGO SOMMSFEST! That is one of the most absurd notions I've heard in awhile. How could we try to recreate Sommsfest 96 without SOUNDGARDEN present? If it'll make everyone happy, we'll just call it "Sommsters unite to form mass crowd at a Pearl Jam concert with the SOUNDGARDEN drummer performing." Ok? It's not caryn's fault. Five Horizons shouldn't be automatically expected to accomodate us. It was a suggestion, and it got turned down. That's how life is, and I'm not mad. I'm sorry, Seth, for turning the list into a bunch of assholes squabbling with each other over something like this. That wasn't what I meant to do. <:) And, finally, chill out, people. Get a hold of yourselves! You're making cosmic fucksticks out of yourselves, and it's getting old. If you want to talk about sommsfest 98, please don't soil the list with it any more. It got out of hand. Just mail me, Michelle, Arden, or anyone else on that list. PLEASE. ~Waiting For Flames, pUnKy~ ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 13 May 1998 08:50:08 +1000 From: Koggle Subject: #somms Hey all Just out of curiosity, is the #somms room thingo meant to be on undernet? i am in there at the moment and (surprise surprise!) there's no one else in there.. if you're bored as shit.. like hmmm.. me? go there nowwww.. You all are such innocents, and Caryn, you forget you are now dealing with a group of people who don't know you as a SOMMS goddess. I have no intentions of going to the Seattle shows, but have been reading about the Seattle Sommsfest with interest, since it was so cool in Chicago. Hell, there doesn't even need to be a concert to have a Sommsfest, right Toni, UKDeb, and Candy? I think poor Nick innocently tried to involve these PJ people, not knowing he would end up in such an ugly disagreement. I never read anything in any of the posts about an expectation of meeting any members of the band. I think the Sommsfest idea is a great one, don't let this run-in deter you.
