Hmmmm.... hmmm hmmm hmmm indeed!! = ) the cover SG did of that song brings tears to my eyes the same way Boot Camp does. add those together like they did was something so magical and perfect it was nothing less than indescribably weep-inducing. = ) just amazing. my favorite version of this cover ever is from the Toronto 96 show... i don't care if he's drunk of his rocker a thousand times over, the man sounds incredible in this show and i think it's probably the best show SG did on their 96 US tour from the boots i've heard (sans the chicago night with the somms dedication that no one seems to know if it exsists or not...maybe that's a special reason why no one knows... it was for you and you alone, it's YOUR memory, not ours. it's the memory of those priviledged enough and old enough and financially stable enough to have gone to chicago for those shows. it's a memory created for you by Silver Mgts and SG themselves and it's not meant to be heard by some nerd in philadelphia who doesn't know what Somms is and never will... you know?) I said there is a big problem, not that you have a big problem, though most of us do.... you are putting down an array of songs that most fans like, an d that the members of Soundgarden felt they were doing a good job on. It's not like this was the Spaghetti Incident here, and Soundgarden ran out of steam. In stead, they felt compelled to pay tribute to bands they like. Good points about Kiss... I could imagine liking soundgarden and not liking kis s... But "Into the Void" is so intimately related to the styles in Badmotorfing er and Louder than Love that it just seems strange to call the song crap, and st ill like similar songs. That's all. I am fairly sure that i remember hearing Chris sing Helter Skelter at one of the Brisbane, Australia shows.. (Big Day Out or Festival Hall.. not sure) anyone got a proper set list? i have a terrible memory, but i remember Helter Skelter....... somewhat.. Anyway as far as covers go, I like em.. Just tonight i went and saw a cover band who played Spoonman in their second set.. even though they obviously didn't have the typical Soundgarden sound (they missed out all of Ben's lines dammit) this band semi-recreated the feeling i got of seeing SG live.. it felt really good hearing it live again.. maybe it was the thought that i wouldn't ever experience the REAL version of it again or maybe i was just stunned that i heard Soundgarden played anywhere else other than my bedroom.. :) Niki has some points though.. despite how much you adore a band it's alright if you don't like some of their work.. you shouldn't feel like "i'm not a true (not to mention *hardcore*! hehe) fan if i don't like every single song of theirs".. that's nice and all, but not really.... practical.. But i don't think cover songs should be any different in that respect.. a song is a song.. even when it was originally written by someone else.. it's still the band you love, singing a song with their personal flavour added to it.. blah i dunno.. it's just not very safe to say that ALL cover songs suck.. i think there's a lesson to be learnt about being online while under the influence don't you? Cheap Tr ick is slated to open for the band on one date, Epitaph rockers Zeke are rumored to open a date or two, and Chris Cornell's name is being tossed around as a spe cial guest as well. The only confirmed news here at press time is that Cheap Trick will open the band's Aug. 22 show at Molson Park in Barrie, Ontario, which just added a second stage for the event. A third act will be added to the main stage and two acts a re expected to be slated for the second stage. According to the Pearl Jam Rumor Pit Web site, when Cornell was asked to appe ar on the tour he replied by saying "hope so." However, A&M -- Cornell's record label -- couldn't confirm his appearance at press time. According to A&M, Cornel l hasn't put a band together yet and he's still writing material for his solo al bum. In other new Pearl Jam tour news, two new dates have been added to the route with the possibility of a third. The first new date is Aug. 31 at the Walnut Cre ek Amphitheater in Raleigh, North Carolina and the second is on Sept. 7 at the V irginia Beach Amphitheater in Virginia Beach. No word yet on when or where the t hird might be added, according to the band's booking agent ARTISTdirect.
