(October 30, 1997) Chris just went to help Sam Perkins, at a Perkins' Big Smooth Coolout Day benefit concert, in Seattle. They and other people raised $10,000 for Seattle Childrens hospital and Medical Center's Pediatric AIDS Program. It was on "Morrison Hotel" but if I remember correctly The Doors had put out an album before this one with the title "Waiting for the Sun" that does not have the song on it.. I wondered why Chris (or who ever) had picked this Morrison song to cover.. Any one have any insight??? The picture is at > http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Amphitheatre/3712/perkins.gif Well that picture was taken a while back (right after the break up). It was at some benefit up in Seattle. Chris is a fan of the Supersonics so they got together to take the pitcure. That's pretty much the story behind the picture. I was the one who scaned it in from a Rolling Stone magazine, and sent it to Seth even thought that picture is not on Seth's site. -- -AS mailto:asnod@home.com http://www.csusm.edu/public/guests/asnod/ ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 3 May 1998 15:24:38 EDT From: niki freer Subject: A tee-shirt idea... Hey sommsters! I've been fooling around with my computer today and messing around with the BMF wheel and what not, when i thought up a pretty neato idea for the new shirts (should this ever come about full circle). We could have the BMF wheel, and where it says "badmotorfinger" it could say "somms@mit.edu." I'd design it myself, but i've only got PhotoSuite 3.0 and i can't do much with it.... so if anyone's up to the task of manipulating the wheel....it'd be cool. at least, i think so. *shrugs* = ) mind riot (on a creative spurt) _____________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail. Unfortunately I didn't find what I was looking for(SOMMS[hey Seth, Second Coming doesn't have it anymore]), but I found some bitchin' stuff: -video boot "Soundgarden April '88 it's awesome! they play all the stuff from Screaming Life, "Fopp", and some stuff from Ultramega OK. there's one especially good part: during "Circle..." when Hiro yells "Big bad ass circle of power's comin' ta getcha!" Hiro waits for like 7 seconds and the Chris say "Big bad ass-" and then Hiro goes on to scream it like nothing had happened. -Soundgarden Stingray it's a pretty cool boot and the titles of the songs are all fucked up -Soundgarden '89 Live in Providence great, but the person who wrote down the setlist wrote that "Beyond the Wheel" was on it and dammit, it wasn't. grrr. -Soundgarden Demos excellent! (thank God they didn't go with that cut of "Spoonman!") -Alice In Chains Demos excellent! see ya, jimi ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 3 May 1998 12:46:45 -0400 From: Craig Griffith Subject: Re: Waiting for the sun Gary Rees wrote: > Yes, um, Waiting for the sun is a old Doors song but I don't know Which > album. In case nobody else has replied to this between his posting and my receiving:Waiting For The Sun, although the Doors have an album entitled "Waiting For The Sun", appears on "Morrison Hotel." It's a great song...a lot of nutsy slide guitar, doom-sounding Moog synth, generally rocking out. I understand that SG did a cover of it at least once, but I have no idea of when and how many times. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 3 May 1998 19:05:37 EDT From: SokJunky55 Subject: zeh Matt and PJ oh dennis. matt looked hella good. thats all i was really paying attention to. hehs. chat yall up later. adios and keep on truckin!! peace, love, hope, faith, soup and s o u n d g a r d e n always groovy, kathleen : )) ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 3 May 1998 16:50:20 PDT From: Star Pancake Subject: Loco Mosquito/Matt Chat For those of you who have the Incessant Mace/Loco Mosquito vinyl, does anyone know why, in the "Soundgarden is" credits, why is Matt called "Punk"? It does seem like it influenced him a bit because the line "Black Hole Sun, Won't You Come" sounds like the narrator behind the song is "waiting for the sun (the black hole sun in this case" -----Original Message----- From: Jamesetta Simpson To: SOMMS@MITVMA.MIT.EDU Date: Sunday, May 03, 1998 6:12 PM Subject: Re: Waiting for the sun >> Yes, um, Waiting for the sun is a old Doors song but I don't know Which >> album. > >It was on "Morrison Hotel" but if I remember correctly The Doors had put >out an album before this one with the title "Waiting for the Sun" that >does not have the song on it.. (thank God they didn't go with that cut of "Spoonman!") I actually think that the demo for Spoonman is great. Obviously it sounds more "raw" than the real version since it wasn't mastered (it was only a demo) as much but I think that this is part of its appeal. I like how the lead vocals has more of a "blues" sound to it. I think they should have kept the way Chris says "Save Me" where it is a solemn, depressed-sounding voice that sounds like it needs to be saved as opposed to just screaming "SAVE ME" in the real version. -----Original Message----- From: Draco900 To: SOMMS@MITVMA.MIT.EDU Date: Sunday, May 03, 1998 6:18 PM Subject: soundgarden april '88 >hey people, > >I just went to a record expo and it was great! The Soundgarden cover differs from the real song mainly in the chorus where Chris screams "Waiting for the Sun" like he screams "Black Hole Sun, Black Hole Sun". In the real version, Jim Morrison says the chorus with a normal tone. Even though the original was a great song, I think that the cover was even better than the original. I found it interesting how before they cover the song on the Irvine, CA version, Chris says that "This is a church song." I am not sure if he was being sarcatic, just joking around ( he sounded serious), or he sees the song related to church in some symbolic way. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 3 May 1998 21:47:00 -0400 From: "Mr.Product!"
