I am on the digest now, so this might be kind of like a delayed reaction, but i am in the mood to post! I know we should just like.. let this slide already, but i want my 2 cents :) this is too much to ignore! re: letter to SOMMS Um.. okay.. can't you just get the IP address from the top of the email and know who the culprit is? When i got SOMMS with individual emails i could do that.. I've done that before with wankers filling in the directory form so colourfully.. hehe I know who you are! ;) Geoff was right.. this is a SG mailing list, so we should be talking about SG.. The rules are in place so things don't get out of hand.. i've seen alt.music.soundgarden and it is fairly scary compared to this.. [they're strangely kinda slow with their information too.. i think last time i checked it out.. (earlier this week) they were talking about this strange song on the radio they'd heard.. Bleed Again? *shrug* i dunno.. the radio guy said it was Soundgarden, but who knows.. who believes those stupid radio guys! duhh! hehehhe] The list isn't just for SG fans to talk about anything and everything.. imagine how many mixed views there would be? there would be hardly anything in common except that we were SG fans.. oh yeah! let's swap recipes and bake while listening to soundgarden.. here come the "my favourite Soundgarden song to listen to while the dough rises" posts.... oh! and let's exchange cross stitch grids of the badmotorwheel!! woohoooooo!! :) :) hehe ahem.. This likesuicide person has no real right to say what goes on here.. as far as speaking for 'other SOMMSters', where are they? laughing at you? I personally didn't get to read the Matt Cameron post.. but i'm not that stressed over it.. i bet he just wrote how nice it is to have a list like this, where everyone talks about Soundgarden-related things and doesn't pretend to be famous.. you know, the normal stuff.. The 'right to read it' is no longer an issue since the author has taken away that right.. If you respect Soundgarden, you will respect the wishes of Matt Cameron and forget about the email okay? Maybe if you're good, he'll write another one.. he could work like Santa! :) :) (i'm kidding okay.. not that i think he even looks like Santa, plays drums like santa or even DRIVES like santa!!) Another point i'm stuck on... how can 'a certain Mr. Seth' abuse his powers if he posts like once a month? haa haa.. that's a real laugh and a half.. and I'm sure Susan Silver does not sign her name at the end of emails with lovely little asterisks around it.. just a bit of a hunch.. i dunno for sure though.. heheh The way Seth manages the list and his website is not up to anyone else but him.. so you don't agree with how it works? well then go to alt.music.soundgarden! find a different mediocre SG website (hey mine will do ;) hehe)... it doesn't make the list or the Unofficial Soundgarden Homepage any less than what they are.. the page is the best (layout/design/information) Soundgarden site there is on the net and urging him to 'hurry his ass up' just shows how you agree with me.. how kind of you ;) Anyway, I'll try and cut this short.. thanks John DiPanfilo for thanking me up there with the big guns :) i'm really flattered. Thank you.. :) I don't know if i agree with the need for a monitor on the list.. i think most of us do a good enough job defending the list and it's (nice) members as it is. New somms shirts are a great idea! i could go on and on about the blessed things, but i have before on here and people have complained..hee hee.. The names in the directory on my page are just people who have said "i want to be in the directory".. there are so many more than those on the directory (http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Alley/6953/SOMMS.html).. i also figure that it would be alot more difficult to print them with our own individual names on them.. a somms logo somewhere and a picture of the guys sounds great.. fairly simple and distinct.. anyone come up with a design yet? maybe Dena could write and tell us how she went about it for the prospective people wanting to be in charge of it? Thank you likesuicide@hotmail.com for a hearty laugh.. and a Soundgarden related one too! later, Koggle ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 23 Apr 1998 14:32:26 +0100 From: Guillaume PETETIN Subject: sg boot info 4 u > hey list, heres a correction, or a change to the bootleg discog. "just incase > anyone cares about the specifics." i would have posted this to the person who I'd just like to add that anybody who has not listened to Big Bottom by SG is really missing something! PIF ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 23 Apr 1998 14:53:16 EDT From: UnknownGrl Subject: matt's singing has anyone ACTUALLY heard matt singing puberty love in attack of the killer tomatoes? I rented it once... but it was too aweful to watch... so i turned it off (w/o hearing matt). Is there a soundbyte of it anywhere online? -Rachel ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 21 Apr 1998 18:49:50 -0400 From: Ben Clark Subject: Survey; Another opinion... Hey, 1.) What is your favorite Soundgarden album and why is it your favorite? ** Down On The Upside. Contrary to professional opinion (Entertainment Weekly, other regularly correct mags), this was their best achievement. Sure, Superunknown had some catchy songs (I can completely lose myself in 4th of July; Like Suicide, Limo Wreck, and basically all of the virtual B sides of the album were just superb), and so did Badmotorfinger. However, DOTU left the biggest impression on me, being my first SG album (I admit that I have not always been a fan and literally worked my way backwards excluding A-Sides). Even the often seen unnecessary Applebite can be somewhat psychedelic and moody. 2.) Who is your favorite member of Soundgarden and why? ** This is a very difficult question, because in each song, another SG member shines. For example, Cornell is an excellent singer but a terrible guitarist compared to Thayil, true? Likewise, Matt & Ben are equally talented, and yet I think Hiro added a completely different dimension to SG. Circle of Power has to be my favorite song on UMOK, and early Soundgarden has a very enjoyable bassline. So, overall, everyone is great. :) Sorry for the abstract answer... 3.) What would be THE PERFECT set list for Soundgarden to do in a concert (if they were still together of course) ** Sounds suspiciously like a favorite song question. Lets work through the albums, shall we? I haven't heard Screaming Life/Fopp in a while, so I can't say. Flower, All Your Lies, **Beyond The Wheel**, Circle of Power. Slaves & Bulldozers, Somewhere, **Room A Thousand Years Wide**, Holy Water. Head Down, Limo Wreck, **4th of July**, Like Suicide, Fresh Tendrils. Zero Chance, Ty Cobb (just for laughs, of course), Blow Up The Outside World, **Tighter & Tighter**, all the songs after T&T. Maybe you should try asking for the songs we *don't* like. :) 4.) How much everyone considers themselves a Soundgarden fan. ** I can honestly say I am not as viciously fervent as the others in SOMMS, but I thoroughly enjoy their music. I was hit pretty hard when they broke up, but luckily, I hadn't become much a fan (and I certainly don't/didn't have a "crush" on any of the band members...) so I survived. :) 5.) Favorite Soundgarden Quote and why? ** "Hey all you slaves go hang your owners." This quote is brilliant; 'turnabout is fair play.' This line tells those that are oppressed to take the higher ground and remove those that oppress, here seeing them hanged. I like it because of what it suggests, a form of 'fighting the system.' ** "There must be something good far away." Being a regularly depressed so called 'teen,' I often find myself wanting "something good" nearby, but it never is. This song tells me that someday, I will be appreciated/loved/or whatever else I desire on certain days and it gets me through based completely on its hope and vision of good things to come. Also, I think the song as a whole is foreshadowing for their breakup. ** "Stand up and everyone will see your holiness." I constantly desire to be recognized for my good deeds, my appreciable sensibility, or any one of my other qualities which I admire (bear in mind that most of that is tongue in cheek; I am most certainly not an egotist). This line from one of my favorite songs tells us that if we show ourselves to the world, the world will recognize us; if we sit and 'bitch and complain'/'piss and moan' about not being recognized, that will continue indefinitely. Basically, one has to work for recognition, and I certainly identify with that reasoning... I just don't know if I want to believe it... 6.) Favorite Soundgarden Side project and why? ** Hands down "Temple of the Dog." It really pisses me off that most of the time (at least on the Radio) I hear of TOTD being a Pearl Jam side project when only Vedder was featured on the album, and he mostly did backup vocals. The album by itself, with no big names, is a brilliant homage to Andrew Wood, and would stand on its own. I used to believe TOTD was a separate band, back in my ignorant "youth," and I just knew that if they put out another single or another album, that they would be successful. Unfortunately, although I was correct, the only reason it would be successful now is that Chris Cornell and Ed Vedder are the featured artists, not because of the music. 'Its the *music* man...' > This should get something going on the old SOMMS! Good call... I just hope that somebody will read this besides me. :) Hehehehe... Forever! I am in NYC but I will be going to Tibetan Freedom this year. I would like to know when it goes on sale. If you guys could tell me, please do. Also, I was wondering, do tickets in Washington get sold via Ticket master? I'm thankful in advance.
