What is your favorite Soundgarden album and why is it your favorite? I don't really have a favorite. I waver between BMF and DOTU. 2.)Who is your favorite member of Soundgarden and why? Ben. Do you really want me to go into this? Okay, just a little. He is the freshest and most original rock bass player I've heard. I admire his songwriting talents as well as his expressive playing ability and his ability to do what is right for the song. True, this can be said for any former member of SG (except Jason), but Ben's style and approach are the most to my personal taste. I agree with and relate to what he has said in interviews. I think he has a wonderful sense of humor. I like the way he sings. He's damn fun to watch. And I will piss off all you stuffy guys now by saying I think he's the sexiest man alive. 3.)What would be THE PERFECT set list for Soundgarden to do in a consert (if they were still together of course) Whatever they wanted to do. 4.) How much everyone considers themselves a Soundgarden fan. Dumb question. 5.) Favorite Soungarden Quote and why? "I went nocturnal completely and watched my cats grow."- Ben. Pretty much sums up my life these days. (Besides, I knew it would piss you guys off if I quoted Chris saying, "Picture me naked, fucking Prince Charles.") 6.) Favorite Soungarden Side project and why? Hater. My kind of music, especially the "new" unreleased stuff. Ben as a frontman, with the best drummer in the world. What more could I ask for? Jen ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 16 Apr 1998 12:31:13 -0400 From: jenny grover Subject: Hater bootlegs Any of you looking for Hater bootlegs, this guy has the Showbox 6-29-97 set. It's not great quality, but it is mostly "new" songs. He also has the Screaming Trees set from that night, including Ben's encore with them (which he can stick on a Hater tape if you don't want the whole Trees show). And he loves to trade SG. http://www.nwlink.com/~bageldog/tapelist.html Jen ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 16 Apr 1998 10:50:07 PDT From: rachel reisman Subject: survey 1)What is your favorite Soundgarden album and why? Its hard to pick a favorite SG album b/c every single album of theirs is so different and so diverse. I love BMF and DOTU. I think that both of those albums do have a similar quality about them. They're both heavy but at the same time extremely melodic and sweet (a very important thing that only SG can do..create an album thats both heavy and hard hitting but also melodic and beautiful at the same time.) So, I can't really give you a favorite..but I can give you something that I don't particularly love..i mean..its still a great album..but definitely NOT my favorite...Superunknown. Now, I know I'm probably gonna get a load of crap for saying this..since so many of you think that SU is the best album of all time...but I'm going to say it anyway. SU just sounds tro polished..you know...it sounds too clean. I can't really explain it..but its definitely (IN MY OPINION) not their best work. 2)Who is your favorite Soundgarden member and why? OK...this is definitely the hardest questionon this whole survey thingy...How can I possibly pick a favorite member??...The whole beauty of Soundgarden is that were/are so good TOGETHER...you know??...that was the whole beauty of it all...if you're talking about looks...then I'd have to go with Chris...he is also an amazing song writer.....Kim has a sick sense of humor and Matt is the best drummer of all time..and Ben..well...Ben is Ben..I'm not going to go into this... 3)What would be THE PERFECT set lit for Soundgarden to do in concert?? Well, at this point..I'd take ANY set list from them..but if I could choose...these songs wouls have to be on it..Entering, Flower, Hands All Over, Get On The Snake, Loud Love, Uncovered, Rusty Cage, Slaves and Bulldozers, JCP, Somewhere, SWMGEC, RATYW, Mind Riot, Holy Water, FOBD, Limo Wreck, Kickstand, Fresh Tendrils, 4th OF July, Like Suicide, Pretty Noose, Zero Chance, Ty Cobb, BUTOW, BIMH, Applebite, Tighter and Tighter, Switch Opens, Overfloater, an Unkind, Boot Camp, Karaoke, and Bleed Together. (i know a set as long as this isnt realistic...but neither is the idea of Chris, Kim, Matt and Ben coming up to me and asking me for my ideas..) 4)How much everyone considers themselves a Soundgarden fan. I can't answer this question..but if u mean would i sell my soul to the devil himself to see SG play live. ..then the answer is..yes. 5)Favorite Soungarden quote and why? "Music driven by money deserves to fail"--Chris Cornell....I dony know if thats my favorite quote...but it sticks out in my mind the most..its so true..especially in the way the music scene is now...and the direction its headed... 6)Favorite Soundgarden side project and why? no one said it had to be current right??...well...Temple of the Dog..nothing else is remotely like it...it was simply beautiful..they was all of Andy Wood's friends came together to remember him like that...all i can it is that TOTD is simply..beautiful. It's been awhile since I posted, but yes: I'm still here. :) I know there are some Jeff Buckley fans on the List, so y'all might be interested in this. I just read it on Music News of the World. In a word, Jeff Buckley's posthumous SKETCHES (for my sweetheart, the drunk) (Columbia) is bittersweet. In another, it's ironic. The collection, a two-disc set of new studio tracks and works-in-progress assembled by Buckley's mother, former Soundgarden leader Chris Cornell and others, is packed with tragically sad songs colored with lyrics with repeated references to water and drowning. The highly acclaimed songwriter drowned in the Mississippi River outside Memphis, Tenn., on May 29. The long-awaited new LP hits American record stores May 19, 10 days shy of the one-year anniversary of his death. For those who care, the article goes on to describe in detail each of the songs that will be released. One of them, "Vancouver," is described as: Tribal drums give way to a violent breakdown toward the middle of the song, when Buckley's vocals sneak -- for an instant -- into that darkish, lower range shared by his friend Chris Cornell. If you want to go read it for yourself, here's the address: http://www.addict.com/MNOTW/lofi/ I think it sounds pretty cool. :) Life Rules! I was going to put rare songs that Chris Cornell did solo (or songs that we think he did solo) but this would take up much more room than I am allowed if I make a page. So some other SOMMster might want to step up and make the Unofficial Chris Cornell Homepage. As for that survey, most of those questions and answers are in Koggle's SOMMS page. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 16 Apr 1998 16:43:39 EDT From: XAnavriNX Subject: A question about Truly I found some sampler by Truly which had about 4 tracks and it was about 50 cents. I know the price is bullshit, but is it worth it? What does it sound like? ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 16 Apr 1998 17:13:55 EDT From: XAnavriNX Subject: Survey 1)What is your favorite Soundgarden album and why? Superunknown. I am not going to give my extended opinion on all the songs on each album. THe only reason I listen to it more is because I like it the most. If I look at my SG CDs and think of which one I want to listen to, most of them time I pick Superunknown. 2)Who is your favorite Soundgarden member and why? THats the thing. Its not Soundgarden members. Its the band. And I like the band. ANd I've never met the members. SO I cannot say which one is my favorite. 3)What would be THE PERFECT set lit for Soundgarden to do in concert?? I have no idea. It would definitely depend on my mood at the time. 4)How much everyone considers themselves a Soundgarden fan. I am a fan. THere are no scales or grades or anything. I wouldn't sell my sould to see them live but I did shell out 20 bucks. I want them to get back together... 5)Favorite Soungarden quote and why? "Get it off my wave" Its not that much the quote as the meaning I see from the whole song of do whatever the hell you want just don't fuck with me. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 17 Apr 1998 12:48:54 +1000 From: Koggle Subject: Re: Survey Hey All I don't know about anyone else but i think this is a totally BAD idea to 'bring conversation' back on the list.. firstly, it will make a whole lot of long posts that are opinion only, some people might forget that, which will in turn cause a whole lot of disagreeing and flames.. secondly, most of these questions have already been tried and tested on the list.. with not so great results.. that would be the only way to go 'back to the old somms'? > 1.) What is your favorite Soundgarden album and why is it your favorite? You can find the answer to this for most list members in the SOMMS directory.. http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Alley/6953/SOMMS.html > 2.)Who is your favorite member of Soundgarden and why? This will undoubtedly cause people to mention reasons why they *don't* like certain members and then have the people who *do* like them bickering about how wrong they are and how stupid their opinion is.. do we need that? > 3.)What would be THE PERFECT set list for Soundgarden to do in a consert (if > they were still together of course) this seems a little pointless, and has already been tried in the form of the "what would your own version of A-sides have on it".. i can see depressions coming on as we wistfully write what we would love to see them do (isn't this a form of the dreaded Soundgarden Dreams post? hehe) > 4.) How much everyone considers themselves a Soundgarden fan. Okay, i remember this clearly as everyone tried to describe the difference between a 'hardcore', 'mainstream' and a 'regular' fan.. - it was never figured out. i think this is not even worth talking about because people can show their appreciation for a band without going berserk.. it matters not. Things aren't so desperate on here yet.. but then maybe i'm being negative.. yes i think i am..:) just my opinion.. In its "worst of the '90s" portion, it "pops" Black Hole Sun. There are only three bubbles with video stills, but they're kinda funny. Don't buy it, but take a look at it on your local newsstand. In other news, I met Radiohead after their show at the Rosemont Theater in Chicago last week. That makes me two for two in meeting favorite bands of mine in Chicago.
