Hardly at all in the last 6 months or so (if i can remember correctly). Despite a few remarks about Chris's looks, there's been nothing of that nature on here. I think the girls on the list have been pretty good, actually.. could you imagine if this were the mailing list of an all girl band? i dread to think of what guys actually post to the spice girls list.. (note: this is a joke, i'm not having a dig at guys who like the spice girls or anything, it's just a mere example, ok?) I think the newsgroup idea will be alot more interesting when Chris's solo work comes out.. It stands to reason that we wait to start a Chris Cornell news group untill there is an actual album. I feel that right now that the 2 songs he released this (i mean last year, sorry) have already been throughly discussed here. I belive that the Chris Cornell news group is a wonderful idea, it's just I personally feel that we have discussed his solo efforts throughly as we can here, and until there is an album or some sort of other full fleged release of an album release date etc. I think we should all hold off for a little bit. Even in the Soundgarden news group they discuss his solo efforts too (as most of you probally already know). When anyone starts to try to make the news group I will happily add my support to such a worthy cause:) !!!!! - John ---Koggle wrote: > > Mike said: > > > < a > > wet dream about chris last night mail">> > > And how often has this happened lately? (note: this is a joke, i'm not >> having a dig >> at guys who like the spice girls or anything, it's just a mere >example, >> ok?) actually, i've found that girls tend to be more open about stuff like that...they can speak about it all they want, and they won't be labelled perverts. guys on the other hand are automatically perverts if they talk about sex. i'm on the garbage list, and i've never seen anything like that on there. If I am not mistaken, Chris Cornell does Fluttergirl and Nowhere But You by himself. That makes 6 solo songs already (including the accoutic Like Suicide and Ave Maria). I will try and see if I can do it see weekend. As for having a seperate mailing list for him, it would be pointless because when his album comes out, the SOMMS posts will be mostly posts about Chris Cornell. -----Original Message----- From: John DiPanfilo To: SOMMS@MITVMA.MIT.EDU Date: Wednesday, April 15, 1998 7:56 AM Subject: Re: Chris Cornell Newsgroup Proposal >Good morning! >I totally agree with that statement. The old SOMMS is getting a little bit boring compared to what it used to be...So I came up with this survey that might bring some sort of conversation to the table...its pretty simple and takes some sort of thought so here it is: 1.) What is your favorite Soundgarden album and why is it your favorite? 2.)Who is your favorite member of Soundgarden and why? 3.)What would be THE PERFECT set list for Soundgarden to do in a consert (if they were still together of course) 4.) How much everyone considers themselves a Soundgarden fan. 5.) Favorite Soungarden Quote and why? 6.) Favorite Soungarden Side project and why? This should get something going on the old SOMMS! -Nick ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 15 Apr 1998 21:09:03 -0400 From: Kris Subject: Thoughts??? I think that we should start a list comemorating Matt Cameron since there are no other drummers that compare to his style (never plays the same beat twice)!!! Kris Hermansen ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 15 Apr 1998 21:48:59 EDT From: Deadgirrrl Subject: Re: Thoughts??? Oh, definetly. Cameron is a big influence for me. Often, I'll be hearing an sg song and the drumming will catch my attention even more than Chris' voice. There aren't too many drummers like Matt. But I like the Chris Cornell newsgroup idea too... *Deadgirl* In a message dated 98-04-15 21:15:45 EDT, khermans@amalasoft.com writes: << I think that we should start a list comemorating Matt Cameron since there are no other drummers that compare to his style (never plays the same beat twice)!!! What is your favorite Soundgarden album and why is it your favorite? Hmm....Superunknown has great appeal because it's.....different is just about the biggest understatement I could give...and Louder Than Love just speaks to me....but I'd DEFINATELY have to say Badmotorfinger. No real reason...its just really heavy(which I like) BUT is still harmonic and has great melodies.....none of that boring repetitious riffing that makes me want to puke after a few minutes of one song....Jesus Christ Pose was the first SG song I ever heard and I ran out the next day to buy the album...guess it just has a special place in my heart :^ > 2.)Who is your favorite member of Soundgarden and why? Can't say. They all make Soundgarden what it is(was). > 3.)What would be THE PERFECT set list for Soundgarden to do in a consert (if > they were still together of course) Hmm......now THIS is a good question....I'll have to get back to you on that one....it needs some thought. > 4.) How much everyone considers themselves a Soundgarden fan. Umm.....stupid question in my opinion, sorry. How can can you put degrees and measure on a passion for music? If you've got it, you've got it. If Soundgarden makes you feel, you're just as much of a fan as everyone else. It's not a matter of how many bootlegs you own or how many posters you have or how many interviews you have on tape.....its all about passion. ONE of my favourite SG quotes is actually a lyric: Words you say Never seem to live up to the ones inside your head The lives we make Never seem to ever get us anywhere but dead Aint that the ugly truth? ;o) -Ugly Truth ------------------------------ End of SOMMS Digest - 15 Apr 1998 to 16 Apr 1998 ************************************************
